  1. Doesn't matter what the order is. I had to get WOF, to get rego, to get new plates put on my car, big whoop. You need all items in the list done to be on the road so order is irrelephant.

To be honest, unless its changed in the last couple of years, the re-rego process for a pre-1990 car is nothing more than an expensive WOF anyway. I don't know why anyone thinks it's different; WOFs will fail you on structural rust/damage and require a repair cert too.

It's because people don't actually go through the process, they just Karen about it on Facebook and claim the system is out to get them. Bit like the (The Unofficial NZ Low Volume Vehicle Certification Advice Page) facebook group. So many people in there with axes to grind that it's hilarious. Funnily enough, fuck all correct advice too.

Yeah this is a prime example of the system being broken. Same van different badge is also had 5 stars. When I first saw this carry on I compared it to the 5 star rated van I was driving for work and driver safety was better in the "zero star" van. So yeah, system is not fit for purpose.

Sauce, if you hadn't seen the full story

EDIT: I can't find the Renault van on the ANCAP site anymore lol... and they have since changed it to not recommended by the looks. All a bit confusing really and very inconsistent as to what gets tested against what to gain the scores.

  3. How is your droop vs full suspension travel looking? From memory 40mm droop or 1/3 of full suspension travel. When I was building mine I was told to raise the rear to get more travel. But by the time I had diddled the bumpstop to be a more suitable size / taper, I had to lower the rear to stay within spec and hit my 1/3 mark. Many hours farting around with tiny adjustments on platform height / shock collar adjustments to get there.

  4. It's only blurry if you don't look into who owns the companies ;)

Hint: many are state owned by China

I'm not saying everything made in China is cheap / garbage, obviously it's not. I think a good example is a Great Wall ute, I don't recall the last time I saw one, they seemed to last 5 minutes before rusting away and falling to bits. If you think other options being sold here for relatively dirt cheap, think MG options, are going to last, then good luck I guess. The MG5 (and I think the rating system is broken, but that's another thing)  scored zero stars in ANCAP testing and is available in Australia to buy. I think scoring based lane departure is a bit BS. But when occupant safety is low, I'll take notice of the zero scores.

BYD has been operating in the EV market for a long time. It has a pretty good track record with taxi's etc. 1990's and they were making cell phone batteries, 2010 they were making buses and the likes. MG... well...

Corners are cut to get prices down, no two ways about it IMO.

I don't see BYD launching a car that is cheaper than a Great Wall Ora, both made in China though. Maybe they will, I just think they are in different playing fields. At least I hope they are as I like the ATTO 3, but would never touch a Great Wall vehicle as we have seen how they are. If people put trust in that brand for being worth the money, then that's fine too. I'm sure plenty did when the Great Wall utes were like half the price or something silly of a Hilux back in the day.

Rambling a bit, but have seen plenty of talk around China built Tesla being of better build quality. This doesn't surprise me at all. I'm not hating on China. But if they sell stuff that is built to last 5 minutes, then I think it should be fair game. If Toyota Japan started selling cars for half the price of the competition and the cars were falling to bits, they should also be called out.

Are you always driving around with four kids in the back or something? I bet 90% of your trips would be perfectly suited to this car

I'd be lucky to fit our pram in the boot of that thing. (edit: I had a look at some pics, no chance it would fit, not even close) Let alone correctly fit a rear facing car seat (it's already snug in the Leaf, behind drivers seat). The Leaf I have can carry two kids + their bags + pram + spare wheel + groceries. It's not what i'd consider a big car either. Going smaller though would just be painful. You don't need 4 kids to all of a sudden need something decently sized.

So no 90% of my trips would just be miserable if I tried going smaller than what I have, with no decent sized boot.

  6. Battery tech is always improving, so you'll get more range and lighter batteries and battery packs that last longer and longer. I don't have half an hour to listen to all of his wombling points. But on the topic of emissions he talked about. I for one didn't go EV to save the planet. To think i'd make any difference would be lunacy. Buy the car that suits the requirements I say. I'd have got myself a diesel years ago if it was in my budget and wasn't prone to blowing up (good one Mazda). The ease at which the diesel option accelerated compared to the other options wasn't comparable. Diesel was my first pick for that reason, but the engines were not reliable, so no point. Shit i'm wombling now as bad as that old(er) guy. No one path is going to be the solution, people will travel along different ones and everyone will be fine. Buy what suits you and don't worry about others or being critical of their reasons for choosing their path. For me, that path is EV's at this stage. They do everything I need and the feature list of even budget ones covers everything I may need going forward. Buying another fossil fuel car to me would be so hard as they are just so harsh to drive in comparison. That coming from someone who sold their CVT, smooth as a petrol car can be, to go EV.

  7. I'd replace them just so that people will be less likely to have an accident with me. Making it harder for people to know your intentions is just a bad idea to me. They won't give way if they don't notice your little side blinker going in full sunlight etc. People on the road are bad enough as it is. So making it obvious where you are heading is handy lol.

No idea what your car is either, but if it's new enough to have frontal impact shit, then maybe that would be an issue too.

  8. I was just going off the 50-65k the Prius is going for. Can pick up 2023/2022/2021 Ioniq 5 55-65k. Obviously totally different cars, but give or take the same buy in cost. A couple of the 2023's look to be demos with 700/1500km on the clock.

The locally sold Corolla Hatch ZR Hybrid looks nicer than the Prius IMO and is brand new, cheaper. Just uses slightly more fuel. Probably all CVT so not aimed at spirited driving, so same same.

  9. Most places can probably get them if not in stock. Have used hifly before and they were fine. Currently have goodride sa-07 which came on car, name speaks for itself really. They actually grip really well on FWD. How long they last will be the true test.

  10. Lives rurally, buys car with super limited battery only range. Attempts to devalue car further by removing any ability to use battery for driving. I feel like the government would have done well to just put equally balanced RUC in some form on everything at the same time. It would shut up anyone with an EV / hybrid instantly. There will always be winners and losers based on fuel usage vs charging based on distance. But it should all just be distance based, since this is supposed to fund the roads. 1km is the same amount of use no matter the vehicle fuel used.

Just took a drive in mrs' CX5, perspective certainly changes when you have different options to hoon about it. What used to be a really nice place for me, I find myself really not enjoying at all. Fuck you EV's, you ruined a perfectly good car.

  11. Yeah will be no different i'd say. The stuff inside my Nissan is likely the same parts as other Nissan of that era. Apart from the obvious bits. That was keen in the Tesla, maybe they can afford a new one when things start shorting out later.

  12. I think the package is quite different to a salary. From what I understood he got paid next to nothing as a salary and got options to buy stock at discounted rates based on milestones being met. Which I guess is why there are lawsuits in regards to the stock options by the looks. Tesla isn't paying out cash, but rather discount stock options worth $$$$. Stonks isn't my thing so i'm unsure how that all works.

Old article, but it's on the internet so must be true, all a bit confusing.

    https://edition.cnn.com/2021/11/09/business/elon-musk-wealth-tesla-stock/

    No cash, just stonks?

  13. No one got alienated. Haters just got more fuel to waste their energy on, nothing more. No one else cares, honest.

Bring a sick bag to the working bee this weekend, I'll be rolling coal electrons. :P

  14. It's just entertainment really. You have to take everything Elon says with a mine of salt. I'd be more worried about the range of it. Jerry Rig Everything towed his tesla converted Humvee and didn't quite crack the 100mile mark. Granted it's 5.5 ton load and he was doing highway speeds with the brick on a relatively high trailer.

Tesla (Elon) has as many haters as it (he) does fans, both are as bad as each other so no biggie. It is entertaining also to see people get so butt hurt over things.

I replied to a comment the other day where someone said something along the lines of "how about that rebate now eh". In regards to RUC coming online. I replied saying thanks for the free money, keep up the hard work to cover it. You can imagine the rage. Don't troll if you don't want to be trolled back.
