  1. It does make sense, the problem is that some of people out cruising ARE causing problems though. A few years back now, I used to cruise with a lot of other people, we never got any hassles from the police as we didn't break the law and were just out to socialise with other like minded people. Things have changed and a lot of the people out their cruising now do actually cause problems, which is the problem.

Times have changed, used to be able to park anywhere in chch for example on a Friday, Saturday night. Over time it became more and more unsafe to do so as idiots would drive around throwing bottles and in general just went out looking for trouble. So I think a lot of the legit people that enjoying cruising have stopped and more and more idiots just go out to cause problems.

The problem is only getting worse really.

  2. Hah, get your facts straight before making assumptions perhaps? You seem keen to prove a point here but don't have the evidence on either of these guys to go flaming them.

Always keen to prove a point eh... This isn't about ripping on eachother, we should be whinging about the government :P .

If anything my point is that only the people causing the problems will really have anything to worry with these new laws. So they will be up in arms the most in this thread. How far from the truth do you think that is? Take note that half the replies have been along the lines of "this law won't affect me" and half "fuck this shits unfair what wankers!!".

Much like how the new ACC charges for motorbikes affect only people with motorbikes, this only affects people breaking the law. I think the new charges are insane (but theres another thread for that discussion).

Common sense told me that, not 'evidence'. I tell it how I see it, pisses some people off but doesn't worry me in the slightest :) . Posting on the internet that you rip up other peoples property is something I see as pretty low, so sure I "flamed" that comment. I didn't assume thats the sort of behaviour they do, they posted it in this thread

  3. Sounds like YOU are the problem.

haha your saying that people tearing up council property is more of a problem than the idiots in ticked up evos that have 200km/hr+ chases with the police? good one buddy, calm down.

Can you please quote where I said people tearing up council (our) property is worse than evos being chased at 200km/h? I'm not the one getting upset about the law so not sure I need to 'calm down' I was just pointing out that the person who thinks they are innocent and being picked on is actually a big part of the problem. If you go out looking for trouble, then you only have yourself to blame when it catches up with you, e.g. these new laws

You are probably part of the problem too given your comment. If you going to bring an argument to the table, make sure its a real one and not one you made up on the spot as I never mentioned anything to do with your post.

  4. Its just getting out of control. Im sick of modifying cars and getting heaps of bullshit from the police, bullshit fines for doing nothing wrong, being treated like a full time criminal.

How did I over come this problem? I just bought a 4x4 and tear up council property. I get some sick enjoyment out of tearing up a local parks/gardens at night.

Sounds like YOU are the problem. My car has modifications yet i've never had any problems. Though I don't go around acting like a fuckwit like you so that's probably the reason.

They will only be targeting muppets on drag cruises I bet ya. Sure a group of people cruising over a hill in mx5s on a sunday drive are breaking the law, however, they aren't doing burnouts, drinking alcohol and in general, acting like retards, so why would they get picked on? I don't think they will, the only people (IMO) that are worried about this are the ones that go to 'events' they know are going to end up causing problems / getting the police involved.

Ah well, I don't have problems with new laws to deal with people that think they are above the law. Sure i'll be pissed if they crack down on EVERY 'cruise' but I just don't think they will. The laws are in place to target the group of people causing all the problems.

  5. I get my POR15 from spraystore on saint asaph street, they give you instructions on how to apply it, the prep etc

They also sell kits like this: http://www.por15.co.nz/POR15Prod/superstarterkit.htm which has everything you need to start out including instructions. Then you can just buy more paint / metal ready / marine clean as you need it.

If you plan to do quite a bit of painting its better value to buy a bigger tin of paint + metal ready + marine clean (just their brand of cleaner so others might work fine). Can also buy it direct from the site which if you're buying a bit can save $$ only really a cheaper option if you are buying 1L + other bits and bobs, but i've done that before too. I've used black and silver, black always comes up mint, whereas I had mixed results with silver that I got, so only get black now.

Yeah as above wear gloves  I did some the other week, had gloves on and still managed to give some up my arm and some dripped on my pants and went through onto my leg :(

  6. what bits and pieces did you get out there?

I didn't get anything awesome this year, but picked up a nice old (ish) tacho, escort indicators, "JDM" fender mirrors, big pulley, sanding discs, JAF badge, retracting air hose, other random crap not even worth noting

Something I did see, but didn't need was a few escort chrome bumpers straight as for 30 bucks a piece. But yeah, will be there next year for sure, always good for picking up bits you need without the trademe tax added on

  7. Measure the seals on your car, check their site for the profiles and compare them to your current seals. Then just flick them an email with the lengths you need of each seal and they'll price it. Just go over your car and find all the bits you want to replace etc.

Spoke to them today and they said thats a good way to work out what ya need :) They had a stall at chch swapmeet, and had a MINT as rs escort on show

  8. good HPLV set-up with reg,cleaning brushes,500ml pot for $70,retail at $140.

Not knocking Hindin Marquip (as I got my compressor there) but you don't get a good HVLP gun for $140. I priced up a non-HVLP gun @ $140+gst trade. That was from an automotive paint supplier, was told it went like $140+, $500+ then $1000+ for guns, but that was professional over backyard products. Anything can spit paint out of a hole though I guess

  9. Sorry to thread hi-jack, but can anyone tell my the definition of a HVLP gun?

Don't take this as gospel, but from what I recall a paint guy telling me, it uses heaps of air, atomises the paint in the head of the gun then sprays that out the end. So you get more paint on the job and less in the air. Though he also showed me a $160 (trade) gun that wasn't HVLP and said its about as low as he recommend, also said cheap HVLP are useless. Whether thats true or he was trying to make a sale I can't confirm :P

I'm sure a google will crap all over my answer

  10. HP rating doesn't mean a hell of a lot, it all comes down to CFM free air. As someone said above 12cfm is a good ballpark to aim for. However you won't get that with a $200 compressor. Mine cost well over 1k for the compressor so it depends how serious you are I guess. I wanted one that will run any tool and last me many years. Something a cheap one won't do. I can't guarantee that, but cheap ones are pretty rubbish, especially for things like painting / sand blasting / hard out tools. Will come down to budget I think as to whats the best option. I saved for months and sold half my car parts to get mine, but thats not for everyone I guess.

I have heard of people connecting 2 cheap compressors together to get similar air flow so that could be an option. Alternatively something like this would do the trick: http://www.trademe.co.nz/Building-renov ... 768817.htm

Another compressor I was looking at was a Hindin Spitfire 1250, which is around 8-9cfm. But thats still 800-900ish

Water trap i'd just grab off trademe, I paid twice what they go for on there *kicks self*. I have picked up some good tools off trademe too.
