since then i bought a 1979 l200 ute for 300 with 4g63 8 valve, i removed engine and tried to fit it to gearbox not realising for about 3 hours that the gearbox that was connected to 4g54 had a wideblock bellhousing so after figuring that out i ripped the box out and sold it and the 4g54 and couldnt use ute gearbox as it was 4spd column so started looking for a narrow block gbox.the guy that bought my wideblock gbox told me about a 1980 gallant at mangere pick a part with a manual box so i went a few days later and ripped it out and bolted up to engine at home and slotted both in easy as pie, but realised the driveshaft yoke was different so scored one that fitted and took to adl to get fitted to my driveshaft , sorted that and chucked it all in then whilst driving thought my clutch was bung or brakes jammed or something, after investigation realised one of the front wheels was wrong offset and was grinding into shock so scored a pair of sigma steelies, then a few weeks later brought alistairs star sharks, have since made exhaust back to just before diff using single muffler and straight pipe sorry 4 lack of picks have just sussed how to get pics on comp and will update regularly with pics now

thought id better start this project thread, i got this off tm for 500 with auction stating it had blow motor.got it home fired it up after a new battery was added to the mix with some clean fuel and was a bit sluggish so after welding a muffler on to actually hear if there was any engine rattle, (as it only had the manifold an 500mm of tube and thats it) discovered it had a noisy bigend so having no idea what engine it actually was in there i ripped it out and started looking for a 4g63

alright well when i slot my astron box up to my 4g63 both the top and bottom bolts are further apart

and the gearbox thats in my 79 ute had a 4g63 engine on it , fuck this shiz is confusing

my gearbox that was connected to my 4g54 that was in my sapporo wont fir my 4g63 that im trying to put in it all four bolts are further apart on box than block, does this mean i have a wideblock gearbox?!?!?!how much you after for box and pwersteering pump?

na just saw a cheap one on tm for 70 but its column shift, ive got a guys number who has a sigma box for 2hundred so ill get one in the next couple of weeks, then i just need a powersteering pump, exhaust manifold and full system and some wheels that are the right offset haha and itl be all go, do u have your old exhaust system still?would you be keen to sell?

can anyone tell me if the colum change gearbox can be changed to floor shifter on rwd 4g63 l200 box?if so what do i need to do it and will the box have mounts underneath for my sapporo crossmember?cheers boes

my rx60 had spring axed 2 and a half coils on rear and 1 and a half on front i thinkand it was a bit bumpy but i sliced bumpstops in half on back an it was perfect after that

so my gearbox from astron engine is a wideblock therefore somebody who wants to put starion turbo engine in there car would theoreticly want my gearbox and exchange a narrowblock gearbox for it???

yea i think it was factory turbo cz it has discs allround and independent rear end an has gsr on rego slip but turbo engines are soooo hard to find and mostly ragged, i think its got a bit of potential a needs quite a lot of work though, so is the only difference between this and fuels car the twin headlights and the turbo engine?

ok thanks guys,yea it has had a different engine fitted can tell by choke cable not hookes up and stuff like that so is my 4g63 wide or narrowblock and what do i neeed to find a gearbox from?

i have an 81 mitsi sapporo which i just pulled an engine out of because of shagged big end i have no idea what it is, it has a timing chain and no engine number stamps anywhere, i have also bought a 1979 l200 ute with a 4g63 with timing belt when trying to put the 4g63 into the sapporo the bolts on the block are closer together and the overall size of the sandwhich plate is smaller in size in comparison with the sapporo gearbox, i would use the 4speed ute gearbox but its collum change. what engine do i need, does my gearbox come from the sapporo or is it meant to be something else and can i some how mount the 4g63 ute engine to the sapporo gearbox? ute 4g63 look at top two bolts unknown 4g63 engine?? unknown engine look at top two gearbox bolts sapporo gearbox top bolts wider apart same as unknown engine ute gearbox notice how it has both wide and narrow block wholes on top and hers what the old girl looks like
