  1. Go for WOF - then when it passes have a go at tidying it up with a wire brush, rustkill and underseal. That way you've got 6 months for it to either look old again from road grime etc or cut and repair again with those repair rails from above

    Thats what id do...

oh and make sure you go to a wof guy that likes old cars - that way you can yarn etc about "the project" and "you must of had one of these" etc for extra brownie points lol

  2. Unmolested radio dash panel, but it's povo spec with the pocket instead of the cassette player :)

Povo spec because wind up windows lol - but it is defo an early 330 with that grill, 75-77? Ive got a spare one of those grills if you wanna change kicker?

For Fred - spotted this a couple weeks back, Holden of some sort? havnt asked about it yet but being a Wags is cool

  3. Wow - rust never sleeps - i love the panoramic sky roof on the 230 - are these all sitting by the sea or something - i know the datsun tin wasnt that great but man....

Maybe a badge and grill from the 330 - drivetrain maybe lol

  4. Mate awesome work - like the fact your actually thinking about spares etc and getting them underway / ready at hand. This is definitely not a slap together stockcar build like most ive seen are.

Your attention to detail is spot on - especially when its gonna get rolled bowled and a**holed lol.

Finished for this season?? i might have to come and watch :-)

  5. The other thing is its missing the plate that tells you what diff and gearbox it should hav,

If you had this it is possible it is sposed to have a solid instead of irs rear or visa versa - anyone know how to bring that up.

If it was me - would not touch it (also that mirror trick down the vents is a good idea)

  6. Does that area around the chassis number look dodgy though? - looks like is had a shit masking job / primer around it or is it just the pics. Would not show up stolen as would be plates from another car. Maybe LTNZ would be able to search colour changes for those plates? - that is if this was / is factory white.

I realize car do go through colour changes though

  7. There was some talk of the white coupe - pics and all, of it in NZ on one of those RFB pages (i join those for hilarity) or could have been the classic cars and wrecks page (i join those for hilarity)

The guy that said it "was" his said it had been exported back to japan "ages ago", so probs still in NZ hidden away.

Also extreme jelly of this car, i could only dream of owning one of those.

  8. Little bit of an update

Scored this laurel on the cheap - mostly complete but with all the bits i need.
Didn't realize they still did a drum brake independant rear in these - lucky i have hubs etc from a disc brake ceffy.

Next out will be the front subrame complete for measure ups and test fitting as ive only had bit and pieces to work with so far.

    Anyone need an RD28 lol

  9. So got the engine out

Everything was all nice and loose / clean just covered in oil from it leaking from everywhere.

Got the head off and all the extras stripped off the block. Couldnt for the life of me get the front crank bolt off so left that for the engine builder (broke a socket, then had two pipes on a strong bar - should have tried when it was attached to the gearbox.

When i dropped the bits to the engine builder we noticed the head had been off at some stage as there are various sanpaper marks where manifolds go and the headgasket is wrong ( a mm or so too small around the pots) so that wouldnt have been good - i checked at work and its possible it had a 4zc1 headgasket fitted. 88mm and 88.3 bores.

They are going to pressure test the head and strip the bottom end and let me know if its a hone or a rebore / oversize pistons this week. Also told me to bring in all the other dirty / oily bits to get acid bathed too for a clean rebuild lol

  10. Have a look at the Kelpro and or Mckay books at your local BNT (or whoever you use) you may be able to match something up thats the right height etc from there - i know in my 120Y i used a Jag mount on one side and a Ford one on the other as one was taller (needed it that way).

  11. So I managed to swap my 15 inch steels for some 15x7 '0' offset alloys with 265/75/15 (31x10.50x15) All Terrain half worns. Came off a UBS55 Bighorn.

Ill get around to repainting the centers and polishing the lips once i rebuild the motor. I think they look pretty good, will probably get 30x9.50x15's once ive worn these out as they are a little wide.

  12. I sell the redline all the time, in either heavy or lightweight for the race gearboxes - or for road the MT90. Its about $30-$40 per .946L or US Quart depending on what you buy.

There are alot of different products - the friction modifier is a popular one for LSD'd

    have a look here

    http://www.redlineoil.com/application.aspx

Also +1 on everyone swearing on it - some ppl dont know we stock it at BNT - always get the "oh sweet you guys have that stuff, ill be back for that"

  13. Im +1 on the timing chain issue - one garage i go two has done 2 sets on two of these v6's one had 100kms on it the other a little more, one had a few sensors etc replaced beforehand but was just $$ down the toilet.

Both ran mint after chain job, i saw one with the covers off and looks like a nightmare.

Swap out for VG30DE 300ZX engine i reckon lol

  14. Science for LD28 Jpipe - is the petrol turbo manifolds need grinding and general fucking with to bolt up, to which most cuzzys go chur it works.

Problem is the port matching is up to fuck all and it gets more miss matched from port 1 to 6 creating the extra hotness in number 6.

Ive been told to run a Exhaust Gas Temp guage too (cant remember the figure to keep it at) so when you wind some more fuel in you dont cook it, as running rich is bad for diesels.

TBH you would have enough experience to go all out and get some bends from Chase etc and make a fancy turbo manifold - i have a cooked LD here to dummy up on so you still have a daily.

PS love this car - its quite evil looking.

  15. Because you can.

Why would you put slide throttle on a smelly old Kent?

C'mon meow Rookie, you know these answers. Don't make me come over there...

    Lol

Because the 4age guys can - once apon a time a rally man told me his one went ways better on the carbs than the factory injection.

Do the VCT engines still have dizzy's - ignition could be controlled the semi-old school way.
