  2. well after coutless efforts of trying to remove te axles....i gave up and just brought a complete diff haha, 65 buks and a road trip to timaru wasnt too bad i dont think!!! so hopefully today illl take the old one out and slide the new one in. also need to reassemble the brakes, but apart from that it should be drivable this afternoon!! fingers crossed. looking at putting some 2inch blocks in the back and hopefully compress the front springs to even it out. since the pics above its been half painted lol untill i ran outa paint, just primed at the mo, so hopefully ill finsh the rest of the car today aswell.

  3. hey all. i need to replace the diff in my hunter, and i was wondering if there would be any others eg avenger or perhaps an escort diff that would bolt straight in. ive been searching for ages for a hunter one but alas so such luck. im looking to replace the complete diff, as the axles in the current one are rooted.

    cheers

  5. im thinking of painting it like a bright blue metallic colour...almost similar to the new blue fords like the xr6s and that. im not sure tho ill just see what happens when i get round to painting it. it needs a lil bit of work done before it gets back on the road so im guna spend my time and money on that first before i worry what it looks like haha. but if it geta warented without a huge hassle, then yeh im goin to look at painting it and gettin it looked real nice. oneday put some new wheels on it but yeh im only a student the money is kinda tight haha. i have big plans in my mind but yeh who knows if ill ever get there.

    thanks for your help everyone

  7. hey all.

i need to take the axle/axles out of my hunter cause one of them is broked...lol. can someone fill me in on the hole slide hammer thingymabob? ive tried pulling on it with sum chain and then we tied a rim and tyre to it and threw it as hard as we could but it still wouldnt budge...haha. so yeh, i was hoping someone would be able to tell me that yes if i get hold of a slide hammer it will solve all my problems...lol

    anyone?

    thanks

  8. yeh i thort that would be the case. we tried using an old brake drum put on back to front and them smashing it with a hammer but yeh it didnt want to budge. thanks for all your input man. i shall update when i get another chance to work on it

  9. yeh im pretty sure i undid all the bolts. i took the wheel off, then took off the break drum, then undid the 5 bolts that hold the axle ontot he housing. just like the manual says. its really starting to bother me a lol. i heading bak home tomoro (up to hamilton) so i wont have a chance to work on it again untill i come back down for uni next year, so hopefully i can figure out what i have to do for then.

  10. i has a go today at taking out the axle. the guy told me that it was the left one that was broken, is there a way to check this? i tryed prety hard to get it out using a rope and and a tire and trowing it away from the car haha but nah it doesnt want to budge a. i myt just have to go rent a slide hammer or whatever thay are called. so yeh , whats the best way to check which axle is broken? i assume one of them is broken as thats what the dude i brought it off said.

    thanks

  11. rito then. i wont be able to hav a go till tuesday...fukn uni exams. so yeh hopefully i can get hte broken one out and the good one in. ill take some more pics and add them to my project thread case theres fuk all in there at the mo. thanks for the help

  12. thanks for those tips ppl ill give them a go when i get thae chance. when i put the new one in, will i have to knock it in, ie with hammer/

oh would using my mates winch on the front of his 4x4 work? if i just attatch some chain to the axle and then use the winch to pull it out? or does it need a sudden jolt?

    thanks
