  2. hey all. thinking about doing an engine swap for the hunter.....and just wondering if anyone has done or knows someone whos has put something else in one? any thoughts one what would be an easy swap? was thinking perhaps a ca18. i want something that i can get hold of cheaply and that is easy to get parts for. im a student so yeh im poor lol so yeh, any help would be great cheers
  3. ill have a look at it when i get some time and sort out what needs doing....myt get back to u lol
  4. Unless you own a Gemini where the exhaust is mounted from the head and around the diff. /let that shit scrape and make sparks, far cooler etc. haha yeh but i dont wana be a beached whale when im carrying all my lady friends around, stranded on the speed bumps...... "your heaps beached'
  5. haha thanks for the motivational words!!! can anyone recomend a dcent place in chch that wont rip me off?
  6. hey all. well after lowering the hunter, the mid section of the exhaust pipe, ie under the middle of the car looking from the side, is stupidly close to the ground, and scrapes over speed bumps. its not very fixed so if u reach under you can just lift it up closer to the car, which is where i want it to be. so what would be the best remedy? weld an extra hanger to the bottom of the car? cheers
  7. PICS!!!!!!!!!!!! haha the centre section exhaust hangs real low and scrapes over speedbumps etc so i thnk ill have to attach another hanger somewhere to get it closer to the body quite like one ^^^ this is my first go a panel work, think i didnt do toooo bad, so went from this... to this..... just waiting for the paint to arive, then can hopefully get that done
  8. fuck this thread is getting boring without pics lol, ill get some tomoro. lowerd the fron today, so its lowerd 50mm rear and 60mm at the front. looks fucking sweet i rekon. next step is paint!!! hopefully ill get time to do that next week!!! then i think ill have to leave it alone for a while cause i have no money lol
  9. well ive brought the paint for it kinda a greeny/blue metallic. should look prety hot. still tryna sort out the front springs......anyone know any springs with 110 internal diameter? ive been told mk2 escort ones may fit...anyone got any lying around they could mesure for me? chur
  10. have put two inch blocks in the back, and have the front springs out, trying to find some suitable replacements, or ill just get them compressed. have decided on what colour im going to paint it, im guna try get a half decent match to the original colour, so that the door jams, inside of bonnet and boot etc are the same colour as the outside. so next step is to get some paint!!! also in the process of painting the steelies white, which is turing out to be a bit harder than i thort lol.
  11. haha cheers man, im trying to get measurements of the dude so yeh ill see what happens. theres a guy on trademe with a sweet hunter for sale and i asked him bout his front springs, and they are from a holden....im tryna get mmore info off him
  12. yeh im trying to get hold of some ae86 onesd. cheers
  13. hey all. does anyone know where i can find the dimensions of various vehicles springs? im looking to replace the front ones in my hunter with some shorter ones, and was hoping there was a way i can just look up some that have the same internal diamter (110mm), and then find the length i need. any help would be great thanks.
  14. got it!! just used some vice grips. cheers guys
  15. right...haha. ive run into trouble trying to loosen the big nut on the top of the strut. when i apply force on it, the thin rod of the shock in the stut just spins around, so i cant get the nut undone. should i just hold onto this bit with a pipewrench and yeh...haha or is there something im doing wrong? cheers
  16. quick update....cars now in my garage lol. have fixed the two dents on the two left hand doors, they arnt perfect but look a dam sight better than before. also cleaned up the two front guards as they had dents near the headlights. now have some basic sounds, justa cd player and some amped 6x9s. am in the process of taking out the front springs, to find a means to lower it, be it swapping the springs for something else or just gettn them compressed. just gota order my ubolts and blocks for the back. then i plan on painting the steelies white, and ive got some nice shiney chrome hubcaps for them, just the lil ones. i also hope to have it painted while its not being driven. ive decided to try go original colour, so i dont have to redo the door jams and all that shit. so its a light blue metallic. thats all for now, ill get some pics up when i do something worth looking at hahaha
  17. hey guys thanks for the tips, i got one side off, other should be a breze cause i know exactly what to do now. i just dont have a socket big enuf for big nut on top haha got a mate bringing me some tomoro tho. so hopefully will have both springs out within a day or to, cause im actually ment to be studying haha. once i have measured them up, i myt see if i can find some shorter springs off something that will fit in. if not, probably just get them compressed.
  18. oh sweet ill check it out when i get a chance. shouldnt be to tricky so ill probably do it anyway. there still seemed to be a fair bit of force pushing the strut up so yeh that could be why
  19. sweet thanks man, ill give it a go tomoro. just wanted to double check befor i go mashing away lol.
  20. i followed the above instructions, but where it says undo lower arm from base of stru, i undid the two bolts that attacht the ball joint bit to the bottom of the strut, and then should the lower arm fall away? or may it need some persuasion? cheers
  21. saviour!! thanks man i knew it wasnt hard but yeh just wanted to make sure i knew wat i was doing haha
  22. could someone give me a quick run down on the best way to remove the shocks? i tryed to follow the manual but it was hell confusing. do i just jack up the car with the jack under the swing arm thing, take the wheel off, chuck on the spring compressers, wind them up a bit, take off the weight by jacking up the actual car, undo the 3 bolts on top of the fender in the engine bay, and then remove any obvoius things that will cause havoc ie calipers etc, and the the whole thing should drop out right? and then do i just undo the big nut on the top of the shock, and will this allow me to take the spring off? cheers
  23. hey all. the hunters currently in crammed up in my garage while i do a bit of panel work on it before i paint it, and while its not being driven, i thort i may as well take the chance to lower it. im going t get 2inch blocks for the rear, which will actually be a very decent drop as rear tires all ready sit level with the guards, and im going to get the fronts compressed. the blocks are obviously simple, but im a bit stumped with compressing the fronts. at the mo the front has smaller tyres on than the rear, so there is a larger gap between the top of the tire and the body and it looks a bit silly lol as i think the rear has sagged a bit too. i would like to go as low as possible without running into issues of rubbing, scraping, not getting in the driveway etc etc. wats the best way to ensure that i dont run into these problems after ive fitted the compressed springs? should i just see how much i can get them compressed while still being captive and bobs your uncle, or is it a wee more complicated than this? sorry about the wall of text but yeh just wanted to get a few things clear in my head. any tips/help would be appreciated. oh and ive already had the cutties/compressed debate so please no CUTTIES MANG!! cheers
  24. yeh i got one of the spliters from super cheap but like the dude above me i had no space. was the misses car so just got her to take it in and get it dun lol wasnt my muny so ftw
  25. lol yeh i know what they do. well i stripped the carb and gave everything a good going over, then put it back together, and it started mint, but then when you pushed the accelerator......nothing....not a thing....lol. SO, i stripped it again, put it back together again....and....it started mint, and went mint lol. driven it to ashburton and it didnt have any problems so hopefully that fixed it. on a side note, lol the clutch stopped working lol but thats all fixed now. turns out there was no fluid in the fluid thinging my bad lol. im working now for a week, and my pays guna hopefully get it lowered, and paint the wheels
