  1. Thread dredge. Me and wife are having a "date weekend" in Auckland (arrived yesterday) and casually said I wouldn't mind visiting a bike gear shop. To my surprise she said yes. I said I only wanted try stuff on.

Walked out with jacket, pants and boots for me, and a jacket for her.

Seems I'm on the lookout for a bike now. I've decided on metric  cruiser v twin. Really like the style of the Yamaha XV1700 Silverado, but haven't found one in my price range.

Honda VTX 1300, Kawasaki VN1500 and C90 Boulevard next contenders

  2. My other half isn't keen on my old XS850 as it's, well, old and needs a metric shit tonne of money throwing at it as well as re rego rah rah rah. I chucked around the idea of buying a 900 Triumph Thunderbird and we had a sit on one and she didn't really like it.

So, we are considering other options.

We both like the Harley styling but don't want a Harley because we don't want to sink 15-20k into a bike. So big Jap v twin is the direction we are heading.

    My preference is a post 2000s Vulcan 1500, then a C90/C109 Boulevard, 1500 Intruder(new shape) and then a VTX1300.  I don't like the earlier 1400 Intruder or 1100 Viragos.

Selection are mainly price dependant as most can be bought under 8k, big cc's to haul, quite frankly, 2 big people around in relative comfort and, most importantly, not too fast.

I'd be keen to hear from anyone who may have had dealings around these three. Pros cons issues.

    Thanks.

  3. Bimini on. The depth sounder (I don't call them fish finders, cos I don't normally catch any) is fully wired and functional.

Ive dropped the hull on the back lawn and applying a fresh layer of cold galv where surface rust is showing through.

Not so elcheapo now, owes me just over $2800, but I suppose its cheap compared to buying one in similar state.

  4. Well summers upon us, and the annual January holiday is 6 weeks away. Time to drag it out and get it ready.

Last time I used it I managed to tear a rowlock off, so that's to be done.

The depth sounder I bought seems to be faulty. Lucky for me workmate just put flash new one in his boat so got his cast off for $25. Need to fit that.

Really keen to get bimini top for some shade. It's like a fricking frying pan.

But first need to remove the ton of crap in front of it.
