There is a scheme to claim back the excise fee for non road use for businesses
It's not very well promoted though, imagine my surprise

V6 surfs were bad for the block corroding at the rear of the block at a coolant passage and leaking from the head gasket
I fixed one once with quick metal as the customer had limited money. So if you buy a surf, don't buy that one
Also they are slow and use lots of fuel
1kz ones are expensive because people who like to remove the rear bumpers and put str8 pipes and roof tents and 15x10 steel Chinese wheels and 4 inch snorkels and lift the suspension till there's no droop travel on them so they can do donuts on spotted dotterel nests , think they are worth $15k
Those 2.7 petrol engines are pretty good, I certed a hilux with one that had a turbo fitted to it once and it went waaaay harder than I expected

Possibly unpopular opinion, but..
70 series have to be one of the most over rated over hyped over priced vehicles ever. Toyota must have been laughing their arses off the whole production run
80 or 90k to buy one and it's bare bones, still a design mostly from the 80s, the V8s don't actually go that well, they are heavy, ride like shit, the track width is considerably different front to rear, they have dx corolla door handles etc etc etc
So you buy one, and then need to spend another small fortune to make it actually good. Then once you've barfed up the whole arb catalog on it , it's too heavy and you can only carry a pie before it's over GVM

whatever you do, make sure the bags can be inflated, with the wheels at full droop, without the sensor going to max travel
i think ive had 3 different cars break the arms off the first time they go on the hoist...
nice work on the truck!

If you're looking at that pic as a bit of a how-to, the shocks are too far inboard as well, and won't be doing much
-
-
And on that age of truck, you can remove the front inner guards.
Been there done that though and it's a cunt of an idea, mud, water, dirt and rocks get everywhere

Can do pie cut if it's tig welded, NDT, and has a fish plate over the cut
Other options - find a ball joint that is flat/not angled the wrong way for your application
Or a pair of tapered spacers to angle the balljoint. Have had a couple of people do this to correct balljoint angle

Engine choice will have an influence on what diff you choose
ie if you run a turbo barra or ls you probably won't want a 4.11 or 4.6 or anything like that, which means a diff with ratios only available in that range would be a poor choice

Also, lies and bullshit aside, mid 12s? while also towing a trailer with a car on it, is impressive

I dunno if an 8.8 would be a good choice for a datsun, the main advantage is they are the right width for a body mopars using 2 short axles
if you needed a narrower one you'd be better off with a 9" based thing IMO
-
That generation of explorer seems to be rapidly disappearing and the next shape was IRS
The diff was the only good part

Is a complete new long block available from suzuki?
You would think a small 3 cyl engine from a current? model would be cost effective to buy but probably not

I had a escort with a modified 1600 a long time ago, that had a 2" pipe and a couple of resonator type mufflers, it was quite raspy
I then put that motor in a mark 2 cortina and 2.5" exhaust with a single triple pass muffler before the diff, it was a deeper sound but from memory it sounded quite good

Was thinking along similar lines the other day when I was following one of those nz post buggy things, would be ideal for the same sorts of trips you would use a moped for

They could be acceptable if nzta recognizes CCC as an acceptable standard for seat belts
There are many belts made in China which have standard markings on them which are acceptable
HOWEVER
china is notorious for just putting a label with a safety standard on whatever the fuck they feel like. Sometimes the standard is not even relevant to the part, ie they will put an 'e' number relating to lights on a seat belt.
There's a note in the virm about one particular brand which has the label but the top loop will fail in an accident , they are not allowed. But if its like anything else made in China, bur Chuang Zhang seat belt is no longer allowed so they just change the name to super lucky golden horse seat belt safety co and away they go again
I wouldn't trust them
Can you take a pic of the top loop?

How do you think google maps gives you orange and red lines in real time for slow moving traffic/ traffic jams?
Phones.
That's Google though.
Google doesn't send me tickets for doing 56k in a 50 area.
The govt/nzta putting a device in your car, that shows them where you are and how fast you are going, gives them the info required to do a bunch of things they don't at the moment.
A phone is not a legal requirement, so you have the option of not having one to avoid this. If the government makes e roads compulsory, then you can't avoid it

China has cameras every 29m scanning your plates and face, they don't even need the card, box, odo
thats the only other way they could track you
coincidentally, the next WOF virm update is to cover plates in wof inspections, to make sure they are readable etc....

It's about 70c a litre so when you get a 10l tank of mower fuel, the govt gets $7
It's interesting to see people getting in a flap over RUC but nobody grizzles about that, which does add up over time to quite a lot
