  1. Apparently he was coming into the corner at 135mph then the brakes failed at 95mph.

    Roll cage defiantly saved his life. I wonder if he made a decision to put it into a roll rather than slamming head first into the tire wall?

  2. Just one downer on the Corolla is that the rear can feel a bit unsettled when going into corners on the openroad when going a bit faster than you should. From memory the rear suspension is not independent either.

    I was driving a brand new read 5,000k's base model (GL?) hatch version. Probably very easy to remedy with some 30mm lowering springs/decent shocks.

    I know the GT's have leather interior too

  3. Paint stripper is paint stripper, I got mine from an automotive painting store. Repco sells only smaller buckets, not really enough to do the whole car.

    Its pretty easy to use, I did all round the door jams and hatch jams without too much hassel. The stripper melts the paint so easy, I scrapped the bulk of it off with a scraper and used a sponge for the left over bits in tricky spaces.

    You will need to get elbow long gloves though to cover your arms, it burns your skin.

    Its ok as baremetal for a while as it oxidises up. Before my car got primered me and the panel beater used air tools to polish the metal back up to bare metal. Looked cool a chrome panelled Strada.

    edit here is a link to my project thread, it has a few photos of the process of stripping it down.

  4. Wire wheel will take forever. Buy paint stripper and that glad wrap stuff they wrap palets in. It cost me $130 bucks for enough stripper to do the whole car.

    Put the stripper on the painted surface then overlay the wrap, this stops the stripper drying out and makes the paint easier to get off. Then just scrape and sponge off. Worked sweet, I reckon you could do the whole car in a day or two. Thats what I did for my car then took it to the painters on a trailer.

    Is this for the Delta or 131?

    edit by whole car I mean everywhere but the underside.

  5. I got told to replace the Alfa ones at 60,000. Not sure if thats the recommended time, but sure as fuck beats pay for new valves.

    Anyway back on topic;

  6. I bet that was a 2lt twinspark? Apparently those engines are chronic for breaking cambelts. My gf's one had the top end rebuilt two weeks before she brought it. The bill came to $4500 dollars! So yeah we shall be replacing the cambelt every 50,000-60,000km's.

  7. Theres 2 or 3 guys on oldschool alone that I can think of who have had carb turbo setups and have ditched soon after because it was pretty crap. I

    Zep's gemini was carb turbo, ran like shit! Partly because to had the most wild N/A cam in it, but off boost it was almost undrivable. When boost came on the manifold pressure was higher than the fuel pressure and also blew fuel through the carb gaskets. I think he ended up will 200km per tank of petrol :lol:.

    So many small problems with it. Now with the Link and setup properly leaves my car for dust!
