Went through this late last year took it to mf King in petone, took just over 2 weeks, rang supagas in hams they can do it In 1/2hr for same cost (but would have to figure out courier etc) so just went with mf King (looks like they have changed agents now tho?)
If anyone is after a bottle this seems like a better option if it hangs around
Oh and i got my own bottle back

I'm in this same situation, bought a big bottle prefilled with 'supa shield', and have finally used it up (its 3.4m2) after 2 years. The local supplier said its a 15 day turn around.
But he said its a money back guarantee it will be returned within that time and they just say 15 days (assume business days so 3 weeks) to cover themselves.
I'm in Wellington and they send it to Auck (maybe Hamilton?).

No test mow today. Couldn't find anywhere open that had the right oil filter. I got the oil though.
The minimum cut height looks like it's about 50-60mm. Does that sound right? Or is that just my custom made deck?
Totally reckon it need to be modified to match the height of a normal mower.
With 50-60mm, honey I shrunk the kids would have been a non-event and they'd just stand there meh'ing.

I'm amazed it turned up, I still wonder where my S14 200SX ended up. It's been maybe 4 years now, no sign at all. I guess yours being a unique colour helped - mine was just that green pearl colour.

I had an 1100S Mini Clubman (Ausy assembled I think) about 15 years ago, I'd fitted LCB manifold and 2" exhaust so it sounded pretty good. Was at my brothers work picking something up, later he said that his work mate heard it start up from inside and was all impressed until he was told it was a Mini. (...but...what..how?)
Filling up my AE92 Trueno GTZ (is it old school guys?!), dude behind counter was convinced it was rwd because it looked like 'Initial D'. Funny thing is at the time I did have an AE86 Trueno as well, with 4agze swap from a GTZ, but that was red, so I guess that's not rwd because it doesn't look like initial-d right?
When I was in my teens, my dad had a S1 RX7 with a Leyland P76 V8 (bunch of head work, etc), pulling out of Mitre10 carpark, this guy says "why didn't you put that engine in a REAL car?!".
Same Mini again, 15 years ago was hooning around like a dick. Then someone starts following me, at first I thought they were going to get all 'stop being a dick' at me. But then I saw it was another mini, pulled over into McDonald's in Silverstream. This chick gets out and asks me about my Mini and gives me details to the local Mini club.

It will have rust, no matter how good it looks.
I had a completely original '83 AE86 with 120km's on the clock, original two tone paint, perfect panel gaps, perfect interior including adjustable seats and original steering wheel, even had the over radiator air intake and FLOPPY original suspension (at first).
Even so, it had rust in the rear arches after a few years and one lower rear quarter panel had rusted from the inside. Mostly hidden by the rear bumper, but just a heads up that you are likely to have some repair expense here. Just like any Toyota from the 80's.
Loved that car... wish I could keep them all lol

'Just Rust' in Tawa, could ask them for a quote. I've used them for a job I couldn't be bothered doing myself, price was decent as far as auto body stuff goes.

So what's the yarn with GST? Could you not just get some dodgy dealer in japan to write you an invoice saying the car was only $1000?
At the end of the day it is just a 30 year old Toyota, worth scrap value really.
I suppose yes, but would probably be reasonably obvious. I think the 'purchase price' is actually including all of your costs in Japan not just the auction price. i.e. recycle fees, transport, handling, insurance etc etc
Then GST on the shipping cost as well.
I hate tax... yes its necessary but jeeeesus don't think about how many times you are taxed multiple times on the same dollar. Earn it...tax, spend what's left...taxed again, save it...tax, buy something to sell taxed on buying, taxed on selling. Tax on tax on tax...gaaaah.

I'll look at my old Autohub invoice for the Rx-7 when I get home.
Might pay to give them a call to discuss. They are located in Kumeu.
Rang them this morning, definitely a good service that covers almost all that you need (except GST which they will charge a week before it arrives (car price + shipping)).
Interesting thing to note, its more expensive to do as an individual, they have a cheaper rate if its organised through a company in Japan (such as Stacked).

My curiosity was piqued so I emailed Ewan for clarification. Turns out they don't use Autohub unless you specifically request it.
As stated, Bay Customs is their usual broker, and they will deliver the vehicle to wherever you specify (i.e. your house, or the compliance place) once it clears Customs. Then you have to factor in whatever landing costs are left over.
That's interesting, I wonder if your 125,000yen through Autohub actually includes the MAF cleaning etc or if that the list you posted from their site is a 'we can do all this' list but would cost more?
It was my understanding that the 125k was just to get it here, then the landing costs are port charges, inspection, MAF (if they request cleaning), customs clearance, GST etc etc
That's what I was expecting anyway. Kind of annoying that it isn't very clear.

They are shipping over my MR2 on behalf of Stacked. 125,000 yen is how much I paid (to Stacked, not to Autohub directly).
If you don't have a shipping agent already organized in NZ, Stacked will use Autohub.
Hmmm, same amount for me too through Stacked but they never mentioned Autohub or it being an option, only ever said that I need my own agent in NZ. Maybe its because it's coming to Wellington.

i emailed stacked the other day regarding bringing in a car an they said initially find a shipping agent in nz to advise landing costs

I'm in Wellington so can't be much help. I just searched 'Customs Broker' for Wellington and called a few. One of them was Mainfreight but their prices weren't very good.
Stacked originally recommended Bay Customs Brokers to get info, but they are in Tauranga and didn't have a Wellington branch. They did help me out with a couple of details and suggested people in Wellington.
The one I've gone with in Wellington said that landing costs are variable based on which Freight/Shipping company it is sent with. They all have different port charges apparently.
Stacked use a shipping broker, so it sounds like this broker takes care of getting the car onto which ever ship is next going to your port and the fee is set. So they can't really tell you which shipping co it is going with until its done.
My car has already left port in Japan but the port charges (here) haven't been loaded yet. The agent says its a well known car forwarder so isn't expecting any surprises. When I say surprises, apparently dodgy companies will quote you a low shipping cost but its only cheap because the port charges on this end are much higher.
All of my dealings with Stacked have been great and I doubt they would deal with a 'bad' shipping broker so I'm not too worried about surprise port costs.

My boss filled a container up to such a degree that customs called him to help empty it out. He used that as an opportunity to sneak all the undecleared shit out without paying GST

Good point. I always thought those costs (fumigating, GST, etc) were sorted by Autohub prior to arrival.
It's been 8 years since I last used them, but can look up my old invoice and see what's up. Otherwise someone else who's used them recently may be able to answer those questions. I recall not needing a client code, it may have changed since then though.
Be interesting to know if its possible to bring a car in and not have to pay GST on the value of the car. It certainly makes a big difference...
This is the first time I'm doing it and I ended up using a Customs Agent for the NZ side, unsure if you can do it yourself. But at least I can now learn the process and see if I can do any of it myself next time.
I assumed I would be able to go pick up the car at the port myself with a trailer, but its a customs secure zone so not allowed. It has to be transported to a registered offloading site (there is an official acronym that escapes me right now) whether its Roll on Roll off or a container, it doesn't make a difference. Again, at your cost.
Another thing is Mainfreight estimated a crazy price to get a car off the boat and into their yard (you still have to pick up) and I assume still have to pay GST as well.
They said $1800 for a whole container including fumigating, so if you brought in a packed container this might work out.
For one car, roll on roll off including inspection/cleaning/etc... $1300! That's pretty much the cost of getting it from Japan!
So I didn't end up with them. Maybe they can do a better deal if they also organise the shipping? No idea... I left the shipping to Stacked to do organise, now I'm dealing with a local Customs Agent.
If Autohub avoids all these hassles I will use them next time.

I'm currently in the process of importing a car for parts.
Some things that haven't been mentioned that I've come across for the NZ side.
- No one has mentioned that you have to pay NZ GST on the car value and shipping (unless I've missed it).
- You need a Customs Client Code (you'll already have one if you've imported anything like parts and had to pay GST), I've just asked Customs for mine.
- MAF will probably want to clean and fumigate it at your cost (up to $400).
This is just my experience so far, car is on it's way now so hoping there are not other hidden costs.
It sounds like Autohub shipping is a good option if it just arrives at your door with no MAF/Customs hassle?

Not really a big deal, make sure you dont exceed the maximum offset (20% of rim width) and make sure the tyres dont rub, thats about all you would have to worry about cert wise

Hi Cletus,
Is there any issue with wheel arch extensions that are 60mm wider each side (that's rear, front is less)? And on that note, having a overall wheel track width that is 120mm wider than standard? This would require cutting and welding the existing guards and fitting wheels with enough offset and width to suit.
I've been through 3 certs with different cars but none have a track width change like this would be.

But I noticed a Series 1-3 RX7 for sale near the main intersection in Paraparaumu, just got a glimpse. Around $15K, looked like resprayed bright red. That's all I know.
It looked more like a workshop than a car yard.
Are they really worth $15k now?

First thing I would suggest is upgrading that radiator, you can get 42 or 50mm thick ones in that size. And some ducting to get air going through it rather than around it. I doubt any air will be going through it at all like that.
Those are super light weight too.
Machining and welding Turbo Exh Housing options/opinions (in WGTN)

Hi guys,
I have a Holset HX35 turbo which is going on my race car project, it's the internal wastegate with 5 bolt downpipe flange type.
I'm thinking about machining it down and welding on a 3" v-band flange as well as welding up the internal wastegate (will use external).
Does anyone have a suggestions of who in Wellington can do this, and do it properly so it wont crack? i.e. not just mig it on cold.
Since it is going on a track car it is likely to get hotter than a road car so I don't want to be dealing with cracks etc.
Alternatively I would need to get a flange laser cut since I can't find anyone with this pattern and I need to block the wastegate anyway.
