  1. O.k?? I think I'll pass on the sand idea! What's New-Tech is it like devcon. I've used devcon on a 13B rota to fill the standard ports in preperation for PP. Is it a type of Epoxy?
  2. True, but I haven't fucked with the timing at all. Just static timed it on the dizzy. I'm not sure how to adjust timing on the laptop so if she's too retarded it may not rev out. Fuck it tho, I'll just rev it to whatever and hurf it in and see what happens! I'm sure it wont be happy about a lung full of chalk but if it works then fucken rock on!!!
  3. Only problem I see with this powder down the bores thing is the RPM's. I dont know if I can get my engine up that high in the revs in it's current state of tune! I spose 4 to 4.5 grand should be enough, I dont what to rev the pants off it too much untill I know how rich/lean it is.
  4. Video what??? Putting chalk into my intake??? I have enough trouble posting pics let alone video! Someone will have to tell me how to post video's.
  5. Not 100% sure if this is true but apparently VL external pumps are interchangable with RB20 ones and they are always floating around. My pump for my surgy was doing the same as yours and after a week of tapping it every now and again it burnt out and smelly smoke went through my cabin! Get a new or 2nd hand one soon or ya may end up stranded somewhere!
  6. Cheer blueex, Funny, another mate was at work today (older guy) and he sugessted the exact same thing but with chalk dust rather than Ajax. Same concept though and obviously the same as brasso or Jiff but in a dry sense. I'm gona give this a try though as really I have fuck all to loose! My rings are new so they should take up and the chalk/ajax should soak up any oil in the bore and cut a new track for themselves. If it does not work then she's out for a rebuild but who knows she may come right. I think I'll keep it well away from my newely rebuilt turbo though!!! Cheers for the advise as Rangi as it is!!! LOL.
  7. CAM, When you say load her up are you talking boost or just like shove her in a higher gear than needed and make it pull. My problem is gona be that even after I re-build it again I cant really load it up much cause my Link V5 is not tuned right. Still basically running on it's start up programme which could be to rich or to lean......I have not got enough experience with tuning the shit to set it up. Would hate to be too rich and borewash during the running in process! C my delemma. I spose I could trailer it over to Nelson and do a running in tune and then take it back again for a proper performance tune later????
  8. Yea, I'm actually a mech and this is the first engine that I have rebuilt that I have ever had trouble with and I've rebuilt a few!!! Block was measured, honed in the normal 65 degree angle crosshatching pattern and rings were installed correctly and oiled correctly. Think that it just might be one of those "BUGGER" type events where things go wrong even though you did shit right. Another $500 and a few late nights in the workshops will see her right again.
  9. Yea, I've heard mixed messages from several very reputable workshops but the common factor seems to be that a simple re-ringing often ends in tears whereas a bore out seems to have better results. Got some good direction from everyone and I appreciate it. Blueex I presume that you are probibly refering to what we used to call a "Porkbone Re-bore" in which you put either brasso or Jiff or some other abrassive cream down the bore and turn it over alot? This what you ment???
  10. Fuck. Seriously! I never heard that b4. I did use Valvolene running in oil and I did about 850 odd kays. Then pulled her off the road to do the multipoint conversion. Any theroy's on why the running in oil does not work with Chrome rings??? This could be very important to me for when I run it in once she been rebuilt......again!
  11. Found the old box that my rings came in and they were ACL's which as I understand it are of reasonable quality. They are also Chrome rings too so that only adds to the Mystery for me??? I can only agree that it must have had something to do with the time it spent off the road. Anyway got prices for the new gear for it. $250 for the Hypertec Semi forged Pistons and Pins, $110 for the Hastings rings and $105 for the block Bore out, so I'll probibly go with that. At least by overboreing the block it will give the rings some fresh metal to Bed in against I spose! Here's hoping cause if that doesn't work she'll be going the same way as LowLancers........Down the fucken road!!! LOL.
  12. Sort of, Did a Cylinder leak down test, though it would be better than compression. BAD!!! Pressure dropped off on 2 cylinders very quickly. A little slower on the other 2 but still shit! Still starts and runs sweet but you can see the blow-by gas pulsing out of my breather bottle!!!
  13. Yea, All in the right way. Followed the book to the letter. 120 degree stagger of the ring gaps, all the good shit.

I used a product from The Patch Rubber Co (the dudes that make heaps of the tyre repair shit for NZ) it was a solvent stuff that they use to clean and scuff up the surface of the inside of the tyre so that the repair sticks well. I used it on the side wall then let it dry and painted on a few coates of white Etch primer. Sounds gash but the etch primer is more flexable than normal paint and doesn't crack. Had it on my 1500cc Motorbike for about a year before I had to re-do it. Even then I only had to re-do it cause I forgot about it and hit it with the waterblaster by mistake when I was washing it!!! It's cheap and it works pretty well.
  15. Just wondering if anyone else out there has ever had any problems with piston rings not sealing or failing to "bed in" on 4G series Mitsi's once rebuilt? Had a yarn with "Fuel" and he has had a good run with his ones. Having alot of fun with mine so just trying to get to the bottom of it and if I may have done something wrong or some shit.
  16. Fuck, Fuck, Fuck! Just when things were starting to come together I have found that while she had been sitting waiting for the Multipoint gear to get finished moisture got into the engine and has done damage. It's producing loads of blow-by gas and pressurizing the sump because the rings are not sealing properly. Totally fucken gutted cause I was getting set to take it to Nelson to get tuned very soon!!! New plan is to bore out my spare block either 20 or 40 thou and add Hypertec semi forged pistons and Perfect Circle chrome-moly rings. While this is being done I'll hoist the motor out and pull it down so I can use my shot-peened rods in the new block. Can't really justify the expence of going for fully forged internals but this will be a good solid setup for the kind of work and boost that the car will be running. I'll put up pics and prices of the parts if anyone is interested.
  17. Cheers Fellas, Much to my horror I have found that while she had been sitting waiting for the Multipoint gear to get finished moisture got into the engine and has done damage. It's producing loads of blow-by gas and pressurizing the sump becuase the rings are not sealing properly. Totally fucken gutted cause I was getting set to take it to Nelson to get tuned very soon!!! 18. Yea I was real concerned about the testn station dudes not given me a WOF due to a bit of smoke. She is still runnin to rich on the base map and was blowin a bit of black. Talked them around which was pretty easy when you can see the Link ECU unit standing prouder than a honeymooners dick on the passengers kick panel! Hanging to get it tuned now.
  19. Can't see me and Elliot havin a hoon-off. I just saw his Celeste on trade me!!! How say you LowLancer, r u really selln her or just testn da market?
  20. Here are the Pics of her with the new modgies on. May lower it a little more but I think that I'll wait untill the new springs and shocks settle first. Decided that she was running well enough to drive into town so I put my new seats in and bolted my seat belts back in took her for her first wof and reg for 8 months. Walked strait through, no worries! Still got to get some new carpet for it but apparently AutoDek don't do a moulded carpet kit so I'll just get it made locally. Hopefully I'll get over to Nelson to have her tuned just after easter so can't wait for that. Will be mint to finally feed it some boost!!!
  21. Yea I probibly have got the boxes that all the rebuild shit came in somewhere. I'll have to dig them out and have another look see. That's one fucked rod dude!!! Luckly I work in a place where I can get cool shit done 4 cheap so I got my rods crack tested and then shotpeened as I had been told b4 that the rods were a weaker point. What boost were u running when that happened? Which cylinder was it? I spose you were still using the centerpoint set up were you? Mine used to run 2 cylinders lean with the ECI.
  22. Dude I'm a mechanic and an older one too and I too have worked in the parts industry. I have owned a shitload of cars including a great number of Mitsi's . I see your paperwork and I thank you for pointing that out. I used a monotorque headgasket and on that packaging it said G62 and G63 I also confirmed this with Ripco. I also measured my bore when I was rebuilding the engine so the only conclusion I can come up with is that my engine may have been boored out to 2L Starion specs??? Who knows. Anyway I stand corrected! If you go back and read my shit on my Celeste I never stated that it was an "EVO Turbo" I said that it was a TD04HL Evo Spec meaning it ran evo bits in it which is 100% true. I have just rebuilt it and parts were very hard to get for it. They were not very common at all. A new core was gona cost $1500 ex Japan! I nearly fucken died. Anyway cheers 4 da feedback.
  23. Cheers for all the comments and support fella's. To answer some of the questions: The paint is it's factory colour, it's called Neptune Blue I believe. And yea I was stoked to pick it up for 4 hundy. The LSD is not in yet, still sitting in my garage. Bit of a weird story behind it apparently, it is a custom 4 spider ramp-rider 1.5 way mechanical setup that was built in Japan for an american customer for his Plymouth Arrow which is the american name for the early Celeste's. Only prob is that it is a 2.9 ratio!!! I got it off a dude who got it from the states to use in his EX Lancer Turbo but then relised that it was too small. Why anyone with a celeste would want a diff that tall tho is anybodies guess! I'm going to swap my 3.9 crown and pinion into it one of these days but getting the car tuned and running well is my biggest priority. I'm all keen for a cruize/boost/race with lowlancer might be comming up to the Waikato soon to see my Wife's parents so could be a go. Without wanting to get into a who's right argument with "FUEL" I have to correct him I'm afraid. Dude I'm sorry but your very wrong! Next time you feel like ringing Repco ask them for the part number of the head casket or regrind kit for a 4G62T and 4G63T and you'll find that they are identical. How could a block with 200cc diference in the bore use the same head gasket??? Dude I measured it and they are the same. Second thing: The TD04HL is off the RVR Hypersports gear your right but the HL uses the same larger turbine shaft and exhaust wheel as the Evo TD05. Hence "Evo Spec" That's the reason you can pull 300+ horse out of them without going mad. Try doing that with a normal TD04 14B and see what happens!!!
  24. I'm fairly new to these forums so hopefully I have done this correctly. I've been building up my 1981 Mitsi Celeste for about 18 months now. When I brought it for $400 she was running the std 4G32 that was using more oil than gas, but she was real straight with good paint and in original nick. A couple of months later I pulled the old donk out and slotted a 4G37 1.8L into her. This engine with it's eletronic dizzy and extractors made more torque and revs and turned it into a completly different car! Funny how things turn up when you least expect them isn't it??? I had been disgussing with a mate about the possibility of stuffing a 4G63BT from a Starion into the Celeste when a crashed 1985 1.8L Turbo Cordia came into my position for the meagre sum of $150. Body was stuffed but engine,Turbo, loom, ECU pretty much all mechanicals were mint. My mind was made up to use the 1.8 rather than finding a 2L as apart from a bit more stroke to get the other 200cc the 2 engines are almost identical. Took a bit of stuffing around with flywheels, starion engine mounts and manifolds but she was in and running well. The old TC06 turbo was a bit tired and smoked a bit but apart from that she ran 10psi and was bloody quick!!!! Found a cheap set of 15" mags so she diddn't have to run on the 13inch cookie cutters any more but it was always my intention to get some hotties or modgies before too long. Decided she badly needed suspention attention too so gave it the treatment with new gas struts all round and low kings in the front and 2" blocks in the arse. Really stiffnd up the ride and got rid of the 25+ year old bodyroll! Toyed with the idea of stripping her out, putting a cage in and doing car club with it but then decided that it was in too good a condition to cut up eh. So I decided to piss take abit and go 80's style's. Put the "Mitsubishi" banner across the top of the windscreen, added the rear louvre and did some re-upolistering inside. The inside is still a work in progress. Cruized around for a while like it was, picked up an LSD Diff and a few other bits and pieces for her. Then after a weekend down at the ChCh drags I saw a Starion running some quick times and I wandered over and yarned with the dude. He told me what he had done and the next weekend my engine was out and I started to rebuild it. Went for std gear for the rebuild with the exception of a Franklin Cams "turbo Grind" Cam and I shot-peened and balanced my rods. I was never going to boost the living shit out of it and the factory gear is pretty strong anyway. The main addition to the new engine was the Multipoint Manifold and TD04HL Evo Spec turbo. I also added a VR4 intercooler, V5 Link and cleaned and painted everything to within an inch of it's life! Found a couple of shitty cracks in my wastegate housing when I was putting it all back together so I removed the internal wastegate and made up an external. Used a 38mm Gate, figured that it should flow plenty for a 1.8 SOHC!! Had a break for a few months here to re-coup some cash and then took her in for intercooler piping and final shit. Went mental with blue silacone hosing but the overall effect is good and tidy. Fuel system is functional but still a bloody mess. It's in where the back seat used to be in a custom wood box. Running a Bosch lift pump and a Bosch 911 EFI pump. It's 1 area that I dinn't make any effort with making it look nice, figured it was gona be outa sight anywayz!!! Still got to get new carpet and shit 2. Managed to get me mittz on a new set of 13X7 Modgies. Happy as! Gona put 205X60X13 Bridgestone Potenza G Grids on them so should roadhold well. Next step is to drive it quietly into town for a reg and WOF. She's only running on the "StartUp" programe on the Link so it's gona be hard to stay off the boost! Hopefully my next post will have some good news on how the tuning of the link went and maybe a dyno sheet. I'm aiming for around the 200-250HP mark and with a lightish car like the Celeste it should make for some interesting driving especially in the wet. Got my new tyres on the modgies yesterday. Put them onto the car with a new set of wheel and lock nuts and I'm happy to say that I love it!!! Looks way tougher now and I've decided against putting the 2" flares on as it would not look right. The mags and tyres fill out the factory guards well and look sweet. Fair not the pics are on the way tomorrow night as I have the Digi on charge as I write this. Also did a bit of course tuneing on the Link in the weekend. I'm sort of learning as I go with it and it's bloody amazing just how much shit you can do.....or potentually fuck up!!! Got her running and iddleing sweet at what I think is about Stoichio so I took it for a little spin around the block. I never went above 3 grand and 3PSI boost but you could tell just from that little spin that it is going to be quite quick! Anyway Pic's up 2morrow.
