  1. search lotus 7 sites in england.

there is heaps of off the shelf stuff to convert bike engines to car, including reverse gear boxes. youll find more info than you need.

also, your old man prob knows this allready but the "750 club" in england has some pretty good info on making the best from the origional engine.

some of the best race car designers that have ever lived started out racing/modding these cars, Colin Chapman, Bruce Mclaren, Etc.

  2. yea, i realise that, but given 20% as a guess for drive train loss the numbers are still way out of proportion.

all im trying to say is that if you base you choice on numbers like these prepare to be dissapointed when you finally pull out of the driveway for the first time.

been there, done that, and it sucks arse.

  3. ummm, im not trying to be a twat here but the power figures you guys are quoting are like double real world numbers.

the beams motor (3sge) is a good engine, but it dosent make anything like the numbers quoted in this thread. 120RWKW is a good result for this motor.

as with the F20C, it makes good power but only 130-140RWKW, and the power curve is horrible.

as an example, my stock (stock EVERYTHING, exhaust, boost, cooler, etc)

1JZ made 160RWKW on the dyno. you cannot possably believe that a N/A 2LT motor is going to be in the same ball park to that.

i have spent many, many hours researching this (deciding what motor to put into the celica liftback) and the real numbers are out their, search for dyno graphs. it gives you a much better understanding of how the motor might "feel" when its delivering power.

please for the love of all things old school dont start using"bloke down the pub told me" as basis for facts.

    end rant.

  4. it's not factory turbo, interesting front brake setup - I haven't seen any other toyotas with brakes like that?

sumitomo 2 pots same as a few toyotas mx31 in the shed has them, also some rt140's. its sweet because they have 90mm bolt spacing which means theres a range of bolt on 4 pots

yep, MS65 and 75 crown also have those brakes.

that car is pure sex, i have NEVER seen one before. i tried to get the wife to concede that i actually need this car and was born to own it and it is my destiny, but she resisted and i am not allowed to buy it.

    someone here buy it!!!

  5. well, ive done a few bits and pieces to the celica and my plan is to get it going before crissy.

at this point im not trying to build a show car, i just want the thing back on the road.

    radmods.jpg

ive changed the front crossmember so i can move the radiator forward.

a custom alloy radiator is being made now, this will allow me to put the fan behind the radiator and clean up the whole front layout.

    ra23fronttrial.jpg

this is a trial fit of the pannels to make sure everything fits and will line up. so far so good.

    front-1.jpg

and this is my two most prized possessions sitting in the shed collecting dust and not being driven.

the next thing im have to do is get the bonnet, and gards dipped. then its trial fit the motor and get all the bits and pipeces in the right place, then paint the bay....

  6. i will buy you beer. lots and lots of beer. or anything else you want for that matter.

if you have the "shark gill" rear quarter things i will bear your children.

having female bits installed is a small price to pay for cool looking car bits.

  7. not a big update really.

new heater box thing. Sam gave me a spare one so i took it to bits and replaced all the foam seals, gave it a clean and washed out the heat exchanger. put it in and it made a hell of a difference. the heater works now!! its like a fucking desert with the heater cranking.

the other thing i did was buy some new front tyres. was 235/45/17, now 205/40/17. basically the new tyres are 50mm smaller in dia and a bit narrower, no more gard rubbing for me, and the front is a bit lower which is always good.

  8. who knows how to restore a rear window de-mister?

i have rung around a few restoration places and the best result i got was about the metallic paint that you use to bridge gaps, but no one sells it.

    any information will be good,

    thanks,

  9. Buy some original wheels for it, get a wheel alignment and drive the best handling car your ever likely to sit in........

p.s, the original wheels were the focus of some pretty intense design work to get the weight right and the whole suspension set up needs them to work properly, or so ive read...

  10. Nuova Innocenti (Italy)

Innocenti started just after WW2 making scaffolding brackets, they started making lambrettas not long after and they also made a small two stroke two seater car called a lambretta. they made all sorts of shit under licence (including minis)when they hit the skids in the early 70's De Tomaso (sp) bought the company and called it "new innocenti" they died not long after.

I know too much about scofolding bracket manufacturers.

  11. yea, bushes out of auz are no problem they just take a while to get here.

if you need a pitman arm your up shit creek though.

no one here has them or brings them in, once again auz is your friend.

i got a full set of urathane bushes for the rear of my car for 350ish not to long ago.

  12. i LOVE your jag, it is so cool. as soon as i had finished looking at your build thread i went straight to trade me to see if i could buy one!

about the toyota gearboxes, dont get confused between the W50 and the W55,W57,W58 boxes. they are completely different. the W50 may just handle the jag if your careful, but the W55etc is a completely different box and will take anything your jag will throw at it all day long.

it the W55 range of boxes there are various shifter positions (except the W56,W59 which is out of a light truck) so there will more than likely be one with the shifter in the right spot.

i have a W55 behing my 1JZ which dynoed at 180RWKW, no problems with it.

    hope this helps.

  13. the stock wheel sucks arse. its too thin and feels all weird.

go for a wooden wheel like the one loceda gave me, it rules. i dont have any pics but its your standard wooden look wheel in a normal (not bus) size.

as for the boss kit, RA23, RA28, TA22 or TA23 celica will fit, you need to bolt/glue your indicator canceller thing to the back of the boss but that is a 5min job.
