  1. well, i dont have the cash in my hand yet but the crown is 99% sold.

the exchange of cash/goods happens on tuesday.

im a bit sad to see it go but i always intended to sell it, and now i have the MS51 to keep up my crown fix, its down the road.

if your wondering why you never saw it for sale a guy once stopped me and said if i ever want to sell it..... he bought it.

more money/time for the celicas/crown now.

  2. i guess it goes without saying that the bump stops are that height for a reason :rolleyes:

i would have a good look at what is going to hit before i get funky with the grinder

  3. i reckon its like that because the flow in the block/head is up the shit from factory. the restrictors are there to get some flow to the back of the block.

the other holes are small to keep some pressure in the head, higher pressure means the water can withstand higher temp before boil.

as much as it looks hoki i wouldnt fuck with it. what i would do is clean your fucking coolant system real good, mud and rust arn't knowen for their heat dissipation properties

i bet the inside of your radiator looks like the cup from "two girls, one cup"

  4. ^^^^those are the buggas!!

i made mine with offset so i got camber as well, but those are what your after.

you should be able to get a 50mm RCA in without too much of a problem, its really only your wheel that youve got to clear with the bottom of the arm.

  5. in a perfect world you want your bottom control arm on a downward angle from the car/crossmember to the wheel. about 10 deg is good.

there's plenty of things that may make this imposable, but the closer you can get the better.

you can make/buy offset roll center correctors which also give you some camber as well as fixing you roll center.

  6. in the process of compressing springs (getting them fucking hot) they may have relased some internal stresses in the steel causing the coil to close up a bit, if the interferance is less than 1mm you will have no trouble if you give it a bit of love with a dremmel.

make sure you leave no sharp (stress concentrating) edges on the spring once youve finished and youll be away.

if your talking about more than 1mm per side then i would be a bit hesatant, youll probably still be ok depending on the origional wire diamater of your spring.

basically, if it looks ok, it usually is.

    today i drove it!!!

its minus a few bits, like a paint job and a bonnet, but it goes fine, its really powerful compared to how it was!! it put the shits up me, might have plenty to do with the front end being all over the place, no wheel alignment and such. but on the whole its sweet. goes well and no hickups yet....

im going to a track day next monday which will be totally cool.

il let you know how i get on....

  8. cheers boes.

i dont want to get to ahead of myself and start saying ill be a track day but that is the goal.

it would only require one major thing to go wrong and it would pretty much write off my chance of getting it done in time but im working as hard as i can to get there.

if i go we're gonna trailor it down on the back of sams wagon, which will require him getting his shit together and installing some brakes, foot out the door might be all right with only one person in the car but when youve got a car on the back that might not cut it.

    wish me luck,

check out old school garage sheepers

    sheepersoldschoolgarage2.jpg

next is put the motor back in, get it running again, then paint the rest of it. i have to spend next in brisbane so that will suck a bit, but you cant have everything...

  10. for your wheel alignment go to the shock shop, 387 great north road, in the city/ grey lynn.

speak to Chris Rawson, you probably will anyway, he owns the place and does most of the customer service type stuff.

he has a very high tec/old school wheel alignment machine that has specs for older cars (it had the specs for my 74 crown)

also, he is a VERY cluey cunt when it comes to setting up cars and if you tell him exactly how you want to use the car he will recomend some settings that can get the feel you want.

my last alignment there ciost 80$ i think.

tell him David Arthur sent you.

  11. i have been very busy trying to get the car back on the road.

i have made a new exhaust and sorted out the intercooler/ radiator mounting.

the engine bay is going to be painted on the 27th of this month so ive been busy getting the bay ready for paint.

looks very weird with no front to speak of and basically complete from the fire wall back. i can lift the front off the stands, it weighs nothing.....

    RIMG0046-1.jpg

next week will be priming/sanding spot priming etc, then paint.

then i can put the motor back in propperly and start it. i might have to do some little skids just to make sure all is cool before we paint the rest of the car :twisted::twisted:

  12. Bare QR20DE weights in at approximately 80kgs. Can lift it by myself with a fair bit of strain.

    "approximately"???

    HEY DAT 180, NO!

not trying to be a cunt but if were going to be precise about this shit then this wont do.

the reason i say this is that i have spent many, many hours trying to find actual weights for all sorts of engines on the inter web and NOTHING is accurate, every weight is contested and you will find 15 different weights for the same engine.

i would like to stop that sort of shit. just think, old school could be a fountan of knowledge, we could be famous for being a bunch of train spotter wankers!!

anyway, like i say, im not being a cunt but dont post a weight unless is the fuckin real deal and you can back it up with photos/evadence!!

at this point i should say that ive had quite a large measure of whiskey and the key board is getting a bit blury.....

    see you tommorow.

    sheepers.

  13. hey boe33ee33es

me and sam weighed my 1j using my getto scale system. we both checked the system for accuracy (by standing very still while the other one added up the weights) and we also used a W55 to check the system and it works fine.

the 1jz has no oil in it, it has no power steer pump, no air con. the flywheel and clutch were counted as well as all the intercooler pipes etc.

    the results,

    1jz= 225kg

    W55 with dellow bellhousing= 41kg.

if you would like to add to this thread with REAL engine weights (NOT bloke down the pub told me) that you did/saw with your own eyes then go right ahead.

the information about engine weights on the net is scetchy at best so keep it accurate.

maybe if this thread takes off we could change the name and sticky it? mods? what do you think.

    latter,

    sheepers.

p.s. Brad, this is not an open invitation to make some crack about how you didnt think the scales would go up that high etc. sam is very sensative about this so lay off.

  14. ill be keen as for a carb stylz and a "hey b3o"

id be reprazentan at the old folks home!!!

do they make them in a mu mu kind of size, you know, like a tent top cover with three holes in it. we need to think of our "lightness challenged" members *cough* mukuni *cough*

    sheepers.

  15. sweet dude, that video is so cool, as Colin Chapman so famously said "in order to go faster, just add lightness".

but your graph is exactly what i mean. its great power, but its nothing like the (even with power train losses) figures you hear banded about.

the bump in you graph is engine resonance, its commin to every engine and you can move it around but you cant get rid of it. maybe you can disguise it, or use it to your advantage like the weirdos who build "horsepower heros". whatever.

thanks for posting your graph cauz it kind of vindicates what ive been saying.

    sheepers.
