  1. another point you might want to consider is the return to the tank.

almost everybody runs the fuel return from the engine into the surge tank, you can do this if you want but this raises the temperature of the fuel you are supplying to the engine which is not good, it makes for unusual behavior if fuel temperature starts to increase.

return your fuel from the engine back to the main tank, there it can dissipate heat without any effect to you system as a whole.

  2. has he got any old toyota crown's? how about celica's?

ill be the shot gun decoy while my mate hunts for bits.

what's a little led shot in the arse when you could end up with that rare as fuck GT badge you've been hunting for?

    im keen.

  3. are you sure?

how much of the rod is sticking out of the shock when its bottoming out?

if the answer is nothing then shortening the shaft wont do jack, but im sure ive got the wrong end of the stick here.

im sure you mean something other than what i think you mean :lol:

it has taken me ages to finish the prep work because ive never done a whole car before and it takes a bit of time when your usless.

ive just put the etch primer over the bare steel, ready for two pack primer.

the front guards and bonnet are being file finished by my pannel beater mate.

but im pretty happy with how its looking so far.

  6. about your clutch.

i used to have a job where i would spend a few months over seas at a time. every time i came back the clutch pedal would go straight to the floor as if the lever was not connected to anything. heres a few tricks i used to get the thing working again.

push the pedal to the floor, hold it there with a bit of wood or something then tap the master cylinder with a light hammer or a spanner for about 2-3 mins, then very gently release the pedal. push the pedal down? anything? if so you might find that you only get one depression on the pedal and it will disappear again, repeat the process and it will clear.

another time i just sat there pushing the clutch pedal up and down, it had no resistance and it felt like i was doing nothing at all but then after about a minute it was suddenly back to normal.

basically what had happened was that the shit in the master had trapped the plunger and the seal at the end of the stroke, the return spring wasn't strong enough to return the plunger. all i did was vibrate it basically until the goo let go and the plunger returned. once its been in use for a bit you have no problem.

    hope you have some luck.

  7. yuh^^^ out of the box an MA61 is a pretty average/shit car handling wise.

AE86= fun car, on rails, not to quick but heaps of fun.

fuck knows how the market for them will go. i think they have reached their peak and i reckon it will be many many years before they sell for as much as they are now...

  8. the stuff you want is HP90.

mongol is onto it, the pressure in between the crown wheel and the pinion is immense, wrong oil = fail.

edit; the gears dont "slide" at all, they have a continuos rolling contact but the contact patch is very small hence the huge pressure. HP stands for high pressure. this is to do with the oil's shear strength and its ability to hold a film under extreme load.

  9. i stuck te 8 in the hole to see what the hell ive let myself in for.

the motor is sitting on the rack, which it turns out is to high in relation to the crossmember anyway. i haven't measured the bump steer (which is the first thing ill be doing when i take the motor back out) but i reckon its gruesome!!

i didnt do the R&P conversion, it was like that when i bought it and its not good. my main decision at this point is do i stick with whats there and try to make it work for both the motor and the steering geometry or do i start again??? time will tell.

    anywho, on to the pics

this is with the fame of my other bonnet on the top. even though the motor will go down by about 40mm it still fits under the bonnet as it is.

so yea, the drivers side extractor is going to be "interesting" but not to bad for a first try.

  10. well, almost a year latter im getting back into this car.

i have just got my 1UZ delivered and i have everything except a flywheel for the engine transplant. ill be making the flywheel myself so if anybody has one they want to lend me so i can copy it that would much appreciated.

anywho, the plan is to get the motor in and sorted in the spot i want it then finish the rear end off and drive the fucker!!

one good thing the has come of having the car laid up for all this time is that ive been able to collect a few bits and pieces for it, like new screen rubbers and such.

i plan to have this car on the road by crissy.

ill post some pics of the motor and such tomorrow.

  11. if i saw a guy of your, shall we say "stature" pissed off and chasing me id fucking run to.

look at it from his point of view, no point punching you cauz your guts would be all like terminator and just swallow his hand, and one flailing piece of flab to the face and your fucking history.

not to mention what it would be like to be lying on the ground and look up and see your enormous butt blocking out the light/air like a massive lardy pillow.

fucking bloke is probably in therapy.

but sweet news to hear it all ended well, did you celebrate with a pizza or 5?

  12. real deal radiators

    David Sluiter,

    8363660.

alloy rads are infinately better than copper/brass.

your waterpump/thermo housing is alloy even if your heads are not.

a radiator is not a stressed member. if you design your mounts right it will not crack, not to mention if you get an alloy rad made right it will be stronger than copper/brass.

  13. this is a bit random and not even old school but i would one day like to get a subaru legacy, about a 94ish one and make it into a two door, stretch the front doors and fill in the rears, chop the roof a bit and fuck around with it generally. i reckon it would look hot. chances of me ever doing it - zero or less.....

i think i should stop talking now......

  14. when i first got my jza23 going the clutch was really heavy, stupidly heavy, you had to brace yourself against the seat and push like fuck. pretty much what you would do if you hit the brakes as hard as you can.

the clutch master blew seals every month.

i wouldnt use a clutch for a brake, cant handle the pressure, even if you had two.

  15. yea, its a bit of a pity but it will allow me to buy a motor and gearbox for my liftback and get that project back on track.

ill also have some cash for the MS51. i really want to drive it around.

they guy who bought the MS75 is a bit of a collector so the coupe will sit in his shed and get used very infrequently which is cool.

i got good money for it so im happy.

    sheepers.

edit: ill do a project thread on the MS51 when ive got some progress to report, its a bit stink if i just put up some pics of it now (it looks like shit at the mo) then do nothing for 6 months.....

im getting some bits for it from auz and ill post when they get here....

    stay tuned.

  16. well, i dont have the cash in my hand yet but the crown is 99% sold.

the exchange of cash/goods happens on tuesday.

im a bit sad to see it go but i always intended to sell it, and now i have the MS51 to keep up my crown fix, its down the road.

if your wondering why you never saw it for sale a guy once stopped me and said if i ever want to sell it..... he bought it.

more money/time for the celicas/crown now.
