  1. they had to build some DOHC motors for road cars or they could race them in production cars. As far as I know they built about 500. As I understand it they ran a special run of essex blocks that where strong enough to be over board to 3.5 not sure what the road going RS3.1 used but the race cars used these special blocks. I think they ran about 100. I know they tried to bore a 100 to 3.5 and only 2 survived I'm guessing the rest ended up being Vtwins
  2. I know what your saying about meatheads calling essxe granda trademe is full of them! As far as I'm aware the very late granda which is XD falcon shape used them. As far as I'm aware the only car the used the essex dohc was the RS3.1 I thought the scorpio was a german modle and fitted with the granda motor.
  3. I know who owns the fayhe car. As it has been in the south island for a good many years. In fact possibly since paul sold it. It was not the car burnt out at tertonga. I think that was the haliday car which of course was not a genuine car. It was a build up with a kitted motor. That engine is being used to restore the fayhe car. Are you sure they are the DOHC essxex and not the granda motor. Had someone try and sell me a DOHC granda motor once.
  4. Hadn't thought about the quad cam. I'll pop down to the dairt and get one. Havn't talked to any one in the club no as I have enjoyed many dealings with it's members.
  5. from memory it was the SOHC book. Coarse could be wrong.
  6. As above wayne is top notch.
  7. Yes Zephyr used the Essex. It was the first V6 put into production in the world. The 2.8 is the german motor much like the 2.3 in the cortina, but much better. I love the look of your injection but at this stage I want to try the carb method. Not sure on running a 4 barrel on a six. Will I need a plenum chanber or something because it's uneven. I could be wrong but someone said a twin throat or triple carbs are better because they are both divisable buy the number of cylinders. This could all be BS in which case I'll crawl back in my cage.
  8. to many p0eople on holiday with to much time on thie hands.
  9. I know the part your talking. Thats what I'm thinking of doing. Alot of jet boats used to use holleys just not sure how it will work on a road car. Few red necks using them to.
  10. DGSL D umb G irls S uck L onger
  11. There about trouble is most are for german/yank cars. May just have to ply my mate with some more beers
  12. When did stephen hawkins join the fourm?? if I was Stephen Hawking I'd have a much faster car I thought he had a wheel chair. Guessing yours would have a blower Anna nicole smith would work. She looks good as a nurse
  13. I'm building up What a MKI V6 Capri. I was planning to run a Tripple carb set up but the deal to get it custom built has fallen through. Anyone know of a local supply for under a kidney. Burtons sell one but the 600 pounds is what I plan to spend on the engine. in kiwi money. I've hear of running holleys. I can get a 350 cheap. Any ideas please. Sorry don't want injection or forced induction I want to stay retro looking.
  14. Helmholtz is interesting but a bit old. Modern gas/fluid dynamics is more accurate When did stephen hawkins join the fourm??
  15. Bingo thats the bugger. For some reason I thought they where half and half with the park lights. But yes those are the ones I be wanting
  16. I'm sure you can and I"ve been thinking of runing both due to the indicators being so low. I wouldn't run parks as my only indicators because there a piggy back bulb in the main headlight. And as you point out you got a wof like that. Example two: Take a look at the back of mos 60's 70's yank cars how many have separate rear indicators. Not many if any. Most will flash a tail/brake light.
  17. As part of the build up of my MKI capri I'm ditching the front bumper. I want to go for the same look as the early RS2600. To explaine: They had no front bumper and the twin round head light set up. Normaly with this set up the indicators are in the bumper. But no front bumper so they used a rectangle unit that is flush mounted. I don't want to use a rangi trailer light so I'm try to work out what they used. I'm thinking it was a MKI escort unit. It doesn't have a part light as part of it. The lense is all orange. Can any of the escort people help. Plus I need a pair. Not talking the blonde type. But a pair of those could be fun too
  18. Try the bearing shops can't see the stuff being that different . The gear box is ford not out of a space shuttle.
  19. Thanks one less part I need to find.
  20. Easiest way to go with the carb is a carb of a 3L capri If you can find one. Think there a DGAS will bolt straight to a STD inlet main and will flow more than enough. Should work out cheaper than sidies and just as much power. I ran one on a race car a few years back and would keep up with cars running side draughts.
  21. Thats my understanding! Thats why the holdens were given the 1" spacer in the NZV8's and so we didn't have to watch Lane Scott cry and national telly again.
