  1. Original motor had points ignition and my new one uses a hall effect/optical pickup inside the distributor. Theres also a big chunky transistor thing in there that im assuming uses the low current signal from the sensor to switch the coil.

    Do i need to change my coil or do any other fancy wiring here? Dont really want to fry my shiny new distributor. Cost me $50 that did!

  2. Well it took me 2 months but i finally got there. Now have this;

    Pretty tight fit but it does fit with no need for hammertime :D

    Thanks to Strong for Subaru first sending me a 220mm clutch/flywheel when i asked for a 200mm one. They still sent me a 190mm to replace it with and i couldnt be arsed messing around anymore so just fitted that.

    Waiting on an ignitor and a carb next. Looking for a weber 32/36DGV or a Holley 350cfm.

    After that I just need to get the gearbox mount made up and build an exhaust for it. Then comes time to stick it in the weeds

  3. Got the custom friction plate, then discovered that the pressure plate was very tight inside the bell housing and the release bearing didnt fit. So i have had to bin the idea of a 2.0l clutch and am going to source a 1.6 flywheel for the engine.

    Carb still hasnt turned up after the courier lost it, so am hunting for a new one.

    Daily driver needs to be certed for its wof due this week.

    Massive pain in the arse.

  4. So even if you just had a swivel section that allowed it to rotate 360 degrees on a horizontal plane, would pick up oil better than having it in a stationary position..

    Mate is currently working on this for a new sump in his EZ30 powered WRX. The sump is kind of built into the crank case so a traditional baffled setup wont work. He's been having a hard time finding a joint for the pickup which will allow it to swivel freely enough without allowing air in.

  5. Ripped the EA71 and box out. All went smoothly and didnt have a single seized bolt. It seems Subaru really knew how to make a car in the 70's then forgot all about it for the 80's.

    Had a bit of spare time so threw the Impreza gearbox into the tunnel to see if it would fit...and im only guessing using the eye-o-meter at the moment but i think the stock shifter linkage and rear mount will fit! :o Just got to fab up a new center mount which should be a piece of cake and make a longer clutch cable.

    Still waiting for a bloody flywheel before i can bolt the motor in. The only place with one in stock was partsworld and they want $120 for it. Not keen but might have to bite the bullet if i cant get one before the weekend.

    Pics to follow tonight as ive finally got a camera.

  6. Thanks mate, will go see this rodney fellah asap.

    Got Madmike rebuilding the carb for me. Needs a new float and needle but seems to be ok otherwise.

    Is there anywhere local i can get weber bits? Pro-Parts only seem to do Holley and i wasnt too keen on buying one of their carbs as i hated the holley on my old mans MGB. Was a total cnut.

  7. Welcome to O.s man.

    This defiantly has some sweet potential.

    Whats the idea behind going 6 lug? Would you not be better to go to 4x114.3?

    6 Lug seems easier as 2 of the studs will line up. Plus the hubs are massive and suit the 6 lug pattern width nicely.

    I personally know of 3 of these in the country including mine. One is on the road somewhere down south, the other one is rally prepped and sat rusting in a field in Christchurch. Already have a reputation after towing it to Palmerston North from Rangiora on a rope...at night...in the rain...with a yank driving the tow car on the right hand side of the road some of the way.

    Been lurking on o.s since 2006. Only recently went mad and bought a car worthy of posting.

  8. Have a DGV 32/36 here and trying to get a rough idea what i need to put in it to run a 2.2L up to around 6,000rpm. Fairly stock motor. Factory cams and a custom exhaust.

    I think the carb came off a japper 2 liter. I plan on popping the thing to pieces and rebuilding it before i bolt it onto the motor.

    Seems to be a mystical dark art to jetting these things. Theres no map sensor or ecu to feck with so im out of my comfort zone.

  9. Have this;

    hatch2.jpg

    Attempting to make it into this;

    85rallyhatch.jpg

    First task, throw motor away. Replace with something that still knows what a horsepower looks like.

    Have purchased an EJ22 out of a 94 Legacy and thrown all of the fuel injection things away...and bolted a dirty weber and a distributor in its place.

    Currently awaiting a gearbox out of an Impreza to go in the car before i can start bolting the rest of the new bits in. At the same time im attempting to fix a bit of rust, get it lower, make the heater work, re-trim the interior and upgrade the wheels to 6lug hilux 15x7's

    Final goal is a dirty simple go-kart. Minimum electronics and maximum fun.
