  1. I have a mate that has a 1972 corola sr coupe. its left hand drive imported from the states new in 1973. it was not registered in the states so was sold as a new car in nz in 1973. he was told its the only left hand dirve sr coupe in nz. its in original condition with the reg on hold, 4k engine, one rust hole. how much is this worth? cheers dave
  2. cheers. well i have one week of polytech left and then i have a couple weeks before i start my apprenticeship so it should be all go next saturday with the rebuild. hopefully i will have the car rolling agian this w/e. Where can i get a new driveshaft made up or the old one balanced and serviced in chch? Is it worth getting a new one? any help would be good. cheers dave.
  3. cheers. just stole the plug of an old diff i had lying around. How much oil and what sort of oil should i put back in?
  4. $330 at Patricks auto retrimmers in chhc. Really good job completely original looking. they put foam padding for insulation and noise controll. cheers Dave
  5. cheers, yea my dad and i have put in alot of hours to get this perfect. started preping for paint last xmas! yea the underseal comes out real good we bought a special gun for it. in i rust sealed it underneath. hopefully it will make it a bit quiter. does anyone know if 3:9 diff is the most common or is 4:1. and also theres this hole drilled in the top about 12 mm in diameter. whats this for?
  6. Well last thursday (31st) i dropped it off at Patricks auto re-trimmers and got the headling/hoodling put in and then on tuesday after queens birthday the front and rear windscreen and rear quarters got put in at smith and smith with new seals and then we took her back to dads workshop. The build continues. Today a dropped the diff assembly out, cleaned it all up and cleaned the underbody and sprayed on underseal. tomoro ill paint the diff replace the bushes and put it back on adb put the new munroe gas shocks on and i'll see what else i have time for. heres some pics for now. this to this Here's my diff its a 3:9 ratio diff. i'll paint it tomoro to make it look nice and put it back in.
  7. I did all the prep work myself. and a mate at avon city did a w/e job for me. the biggest expense was the paint. i just have to take it back to get buffed when its all put together.
  8. Cheers guys. yea i tried to stay away from metellics and pearls for this project but im stoked with this colour. Just a matter of putting it back together now!
  9. Can you tell the difference between a 1300 xflow escort head and a 1600 head?
  10. what do you guys think of the colour?
  11. On the trailer leaving home on the trailer in chch in the oven bake painted The cars at the car upholster now getting a new headlining put in and then the windscreens and rear quarters get put in with new seals and then its ready for the re-build. Will update as it comes.
  12. sorry no photos today i was too busy sanding. Any way got the car blocked and fixed up any imperfections. knifing compound = good! It fills in the smallest air bubbles in bog and small scratches. We'll put 2 more coats of 2 pak primer on saturday and then we'll put it on the trailer adn take it to chch. so i will update you all on the paintjob with photos in the next month.
  13. cheers, yea i used KH auto technology's underbody/sound deadener. I expected it to be rock hard but it is more rubbery. Its sticks to anything though, I dont think it will come of in a hurry. it is chip proof and deadens sound so hopefully it should make it a bit quieter inside. I got it from RJ Pattersons in chch. and i bought a gun with a really big nosel, you can paint it on with a brush, but you get a much better finish with the gun. i think it was about $15 for a litre.
  14. update time: well what can i say. Dont underestimate the amount of time you can spend preping a car for paint. today my dads mate who is a car painter came over and put two heavy coats of 2 pak primer on my escort. The paint showed up small imperfections especially on the bonnet. tomoro we are going to block the car pannel by panel and use knifing compound to take out any blemishs and next w/e we will put 2 more coats of primer on and it should be all go. at the moment im just trying to work out the cheapest option for buying window rubbers, any help would be awesome. also has anyone used knifing compound? photos up tomoro.
  15. These are my mags, are the Superlite or Minilite? They are performance.
  16. Fully primed my car today apart from the boot. Tomoro im going to prime my doors and straighten the boot and bonnet and hopefully if i work hard get my diff of and clean it up and replace the bushes and shocks. Then i can start to take of the underseal and put on some sound deadener. heres some pics of it today.
  17. Yea the studs are quite a bit too short they only just out of the mag and i can hardly even start a wheel nut on them. Il just my car on the road with hubcaps to start of with and then i try sort something out. the minilites are just 13 inch and i was told the were 5.5 inch wide but im sure they are wider. is that measurement jsut from the outside of the rims?
  18. Yea you go into repco and just ask for the bushes. They have them listed on there computer. Its quite pricey but worth it i guess. they had some stock but had to order some in. Also i had to take the bush that gos joins the strut arm to the crossmember in so he could measure it up.
  19. Got my car rolling today put the front mk2 suspension together finally. was bit of a mission cause i didnt relise that the mk2 strut caps were a diffenent pattern to the mk1 so i had to modifie mk1 caps to fit the mk2 struts! but i got there and its all toghether now with nolathane bushes and new wheel bearings also got new shocks and discks machined. The panel beaters coming in tomoro to give me a hand and finsh getting it straight and then next w/e my dads mate whos a car painter is going to prime my whole car in 2k primer and if all goes well the following w/e my car should be at avon city ford getting painted! heres a few pics. also found out i need to restud my car so my minilites can fit. can you do it yourself and how much does it cost?
  20. Whats involved in re-studding a mk1 escort with longer studs so my minilites will fit on?
  21. Yea i ended up swapping the mk1 caps onto the struts i didn't swap the inserts as i already have new gas shocks. I think i will eventually upgrade again to capri struts and high ratio diff but il do that when i drop a 1600 in it. cheers.
  22. Just wondering im prepping my mk1 for a full paint job and i have taken all my glass out of my doors. Would it be easier to install it first and then mask it up then paint the doors rather than mucking around putting the windows in once its painted. I dont want to risk dammaging the paint. and its getting painted profeshionaly with the doors of the car. how have other people done it?
  23. yea mines a 71 mk1. I have the struts out of a mk2 with smaller holes and mine mk1 has larger holes. And swapping the caps over is harder than it seems, the spline on the strut is too big so i have to drill out about .5 of mm of the cap for it to fit. so we'll see what happens.
  24. thanks guys yea il check out those studs once my cars painted. Might even drive round witht the hubcaps for a bit before i chuck the minilits on.
  25. THe mk2 caps i am using are smaller than the hole in the mk1. Dad and i are making some contraption up to compress the springs and we'll try to swap caps. cheers for that.
