    Full JDM spec series 1 Capella, Original twin dizzy engine, 65,000 orig kms , resprayed in original colour, interior is black and immaculate. All back together now, photo was when re-assembly taking place. Has plastic on sun visors still.

    The driver is the opposite of smooth, bet he lunches drive train parts on the reg.

  3. In my experience (to back up what I am saying)

    1971 Holda CB100 - No plate, not in system, no hope, first one I tried and was just completely shot down at every turn so gave up and sold to someone else who since got it registered up North = eventually registered

    1973 Honda CB50 - No plate, not in system, email from Honda saying they imported that particular model and the engine / frame numbers I provided matched within the range of those imported by Honda between 1971-1974 = registered as moped

    1973 Honda CB50 - No plate, not in system, no supporting info, inspector looked at frame number, checked to find it was not in system, asked me what year it was, asked me if he had to check the brakes, then gave me a plate. = registered as moped

    1973 Yamaha LS2 - Black plate, not in system, old wof sticker only and a dealer sticker on oil tank that belonged to the local Yamaha dealer in the 1980s and patina of sticker matched bike/plate. Massive argument with head of Land Transport and several emails later = registered.

    1974 Suzuki GT185 - No plate, frame no still in system (straight through) = registered.

    1980 Yamaha RD50 -  nothing shown, didn't even take bike in and was handed a plate/registered as a moped  = registered as moped

    It is so Mickey mouse, stolen Motorcycles from the 70s have to be the easiest things in the world to re-register with no questions asked. I guarantee my Uncles Triumph Trident that was imported a couple of years ago from US in imaculate condition and stolen from Mainfreight Wellington secure yard the same night it arrived in NZ is registered on NZ roads right now. Some prick is probably riding this bike completely unaware it is stolen and will get a shock if it ever shows on Trademe for sale with the $25,000 price tag it deserves.......

    On a side note;

    A frame/old plate will ONLY be in the system if the rego for that particular bike lapsed/expired AFTER 1994  as some muppet at NZ Post deleted all the lapsed/expired registration records prior to this on the Motor Vehicle register.

    If it has a VIN attached (silver stamped tag starting with 7A8 and is 17 characters long) then 100% guarantee it will be in system as the VIN tag system only started after the epic fail at NZ Post.

  4. Yeah that is not a good deal. If you are patient then complete running bikes show up for around $500 with their original plates (which in my experience go a lot further to proving has been on the road in NZ before.)

    I have put a lengthy post on this subject before.

    The crux of it all, is that you must be able to 'prove it has been registered on road in NZ before.' It is this single line, and the interpretation of such that has caused a huge difference in how each person and each agency interprets it. 

    How can you 'prove' this? A number of ways (compliance inspector interpretation dependent);

    * Old black plate (still in system)

    * Old black plate (not still in system but have original ownership papers)

    * Old black plate (not still in system but still has old WOF / rego stickers)

    * Old black plate attached to bike matches the Patina of the age / rest of bike and the person doing compliance likes the bike

    * No plate, confirmation from Manufacturer that they imported that model around the year it was manufactured (therefore safe to presume it was imported for the purpose of using and has been on road before ie not sat in a shed for 40 years unused at all.)

    * No plate, letter from VCC saying its old enough / fits the bill and they take your money! (why the hell a vintage car club has any authority over Motorcycles is outrageous, especially when most being re-registered are Japanese - which the club has no interest in what so ever!)

    * Old photo of bike in action on road in 1970s

    * Some of these options will require you to pay an extra $150.00 + fill out a form + provide photos etc for Land Transport them to 'consider' whether they believe it has been on road before in NZ (and is no guarantee they will say yes!)

    Also it is not $500 for compliance on a motorbike, I should know because I have done 4 in the last couple of years. My memory says it costs around $250 including a new license plate and rego if older than 40 years.

    It doesn't matter at all what people say on here, or what Uncle Barry says, the fact is, the law around the process (and how flawed it currently is) means that it only ever depends on the person at the inspection place on the particular day you go as to what is/is not required.

    Looks like you need a decent non-can clear coat or 5 on the top and it will look a billion times better. See my Suzi GT185 thread too see difference. It's like night/day. 

     

    Digging the tyre zorst paint colour combo tho!

  6. Anyone know a local tyrefitter I can trust to do a good job for a decent price?

    Having worked in the industry I don't fancy paying $20 per tyre for a fit and balance of supplied tyres to my 14" Riverside R101s and stick on weight balance

    Just had wheels refurbed too by Rimrite so don't want em munted.

    I know your pain about the lada grief. A mate had a mint 125 at high school and this was before I had a real appreciation for all makes and models. He got grief a lot. His old man was a euro piner and loved fiats. I almost bought their Fiat 850 Coupe back in the day. His 125 was dark grey and had 125T interior, wheels, springs and engine from memory? Twin cam , dort dort sidies , the world's poorest throttle linkage (that broke almost every time he thrashed it) and performance unequal to another mates datsun 1200.

    It was actually a really cool car.

    There was a white 125 and a teal 124 that went for a steal at that auction in Wanganui I went to towards the end of last year. Some dealer from Bulls bought both for 5k (and they looked pretty immaculate.) He is now trying to sell each one for higher than he paid for both.
