  1. Say what?

[Shock posting] Call of New Zealand! Let's introduce the New Zealand reckless troupe that caught on with confusion! ! 【Foreigner reckless driver】

Hahah, sweet Engrish on that blog post

You mean Mazda 1200 coupe with R-100 parts ?

    Piners can be purists :)

Speaking of purists, who knows the chappy that imported the Mazda Presto recently? (R-100 sedan, Japan market only car and only came in white AFAIK?) keen for some more pics of that.

Saw it on Facebook rotary buy sell page a few days before I quit. Every few days another person complaining about being ripped off. 'Rotaries - attracting thieves since ages ago.'

  3. Resurrection is the concept of coming back to life after death.  (Google)

3 years after the last post......pure fluke I saw an original pic of this when he started in 2012 on Google images and it linked to a project thread?!

Dragging this back up from the 2014, and boy, it has to be seen to be believed. The finish was worth the effort by Tyron and his helpers.

How often with that much effort do people actually follow through to the end?

Black cars are known to be hard to get straight. This is now as straight as a die.

Without the project thread on this car it would be impossible to imagine how far it has come!

  4. Back to the importation topic, anyone have a contact bringing in stuff from US of A in containers?

I have spotted a couple of plastic bumpers I want and they will be too large for standy Youshop postage.

  5. It is really going to depend on the person who makes the decision on the day. This process is a bit of a joke.

I got one through with numbers in original post; 1,2 (old wof sticker on plate), 4, and 6 as well as a dealer sticker on oil tank from Yamaha dealer "Tim Buys" in Palmerston North in 1970s which the patina of sticker matched bike.

Old Hondas are going to be the best as they exist in NZ in their own right in the 70s. They still have some records and can help verify that particular bikes were imported by them over specified time periods. All the other big Japanese names were sold through private dealers at the time as far as I am aware.

At the end of they day, there is no real way of proving any particular plate was from a particular motorcycle once the record was deleted (unless you have a photo of it back in the day.) This is why the struggle.

Shoot me a PM and I can call you / go into more detail.

Limit is not $400 its if they can collect $60 in tax and duty. Some items have duty as well as gst so you get stung at a lower value

    Maths

    400x1.15 (400 + gst of 15%) =$460.00

That's where the general rule of sub $400 comes from as a $400 item has a GST value of $60.

Only few item types require GST + extra duties on top according to customs website is clothing and footwear. Vehicle parts are not such an item.

  7. A lot of point missing here which is creating confusion. Sounds like DHL asking for the duty?

'duty' is tax which goes to the government. It is not paid to /or on-paid at all by a transport company. Duty value is generally same as GST equivalent of item and will generally only be liable if goods are valued over $400 NZD inc freight.

Goods brought in NZ have to clear customs upon entry to NZ prior to going back to the carrier for delivery. Customs look at value of item declared and will hold item / demand payment if they believe extra duty required. If they clear customs, you will not be asked to pay duty.

Some high value items will slip through, no rhyme or reason.

I have literally bought hundreds of items from overseas via internet purchases in the last 15 years hugely ranging in value. Only once in that time have I received a 'duty' payment demand.

You said DHL are the ones saying you need to pay extra....?

In my experience , I was contacted by customs for duty payments owed not the freight carrier. No pay of duty payment demand = no release of goods for delivery. I was sent an invoice by customs, by mail.

That value does not make sense either. The only time I had to pay duty was for some triple carbs from USA a they had a value of around $1000.00 NZD. This led to a duty payment demand from customs of $125.00 (gst at the time was 12.5%) go figure.

Also told me if I could prove value was under 400 NZD inc freight they would release them, obviously I couldn't as I paid 1000. I paid the $125.00 and got my carbs.

Your situation sounds fishy to me....

  8. Why you taking so long Flauski?

    Because M-unit

Can't teach an old dog new tricks (getting carried away)

There are practical reasons though (well that is what I tell myself); inbuilt alarm, inbuilt circuit breakers, mega functions, no need for key.

they are a Govt. Dept. and wouldn't know if their arse was on fire. i have only met a few honest, genuine hard-working Govt employees...... i have met and dealt with many, many lying self-serving seat-warmers though friom various Govt.Dept.

Your missing my point, govt departments are pretty damn good at keeping records and for far longer than is required legislatively. It is unlikely that a select few would know of and hide a room full of records, then lie to both staff working in the department in charge of that particular register and to members of the public about the existence of records, what would be the point? They have nothing to hide and if the records did exist it would make their job easier and the alternative documents application would not need to be used for one of the purposes in which it was created. I am not saying anything about staff and how hard they work. Same could be said for any working role.

there was mention of this "alternative documents", but never quoited it as couldnt remember the official name, and was of the belief the $184 was a set fee to search the database.

You have been given misinformation somewhere. Read the alternative documents form. Talk with an entry certifier/inspector and someone who deals with alternative documents at LTNZ. I know because I have been through this process personally and had arguments directly with NZTA about it. If someone still tells you the $184 is to search a mystical database in which the very existence of is under scrutiny and despite the form and website clearly not saying the same, then I would also be interested in speaking with this person.

You may have it confused with someone just searching existing records on the register, in which there are thousands of stuff ups when vehicles were recorded over the years.

I recently saw a Excel spreadsheet of pre 1990 Datsuns registered in NZ and I was appalled by the mistakes to records. Its on the Datsun.co.nz forum. Just in 1969 Datsun 1600s aka 510, 33 cars on register, some had engine numbers that were just numbers when they should have started with L16-????????? ,some recorded as diesels, some with wrong chassis numbers. At least 30% of all Datsun 1600 records had a mistake in their record.

They may have been trying to sting you $184 per hour to get someone to search using wildcard searches in case the original information for your vehicle was wrong. A friendly VTNZ entry certifier can do that for free though, it just takes time.

    eg

    Chassis KHGC110-113455 (example 240K chassis)

    Due to stuff ups, could be recorded as;

    KHGC110-113455

    HGC110-113455

    GC110-113455

    C110-113455

    110113455

    113455

    etc etc

and if one was to re-register one of those vehicles, would it fall back on the TRC/LTSA to assist, providing one had all the necessary identifiers ??

i have a vehicle that has at least one identifier, but i need at least one more to re-register. this requires paying the $100-odd for the search to trace an engine number to prove authenticity as i cannot find easily a chassis stamp it should have

I don't believe this talk of existence of a stack of records /papers / microfiche for more than one reason.

    1. I have spoken with both management in the NZTA register (based in P.North) and also the person in charge of making decisions when it comes to reregistering vehicles using the alternative documents form. Both told me that pre computerization records of deregistered vehicles are no longer in existence. The most likely and reasonable/logical scenario is when changing to a computer system they simply didn't put in details of deregistered vehicles. Why would they? How could they anticipate 30 years later it would be an issue for a small number of people wanting to reregister a vehicle?

What I believe you are referring to 'at $100 odd' (its $184.00 inc GST per hour) is not for a search of anything, its for them to consider your application based on the info you provide in an attempt to reregister a vehicle no longer on the NZTA system) using an 'alternative documents' application.

    https://vehicleinspection.nzta.govt.nz/virms/entry-certification/reference-materials/alternative-documents-form

Horses mouth; This form is to be used when the ownership trail is incomplete for vehicles undergoing used entry certification, there is no proof of previous New Zealand registration or there is no proof of previous overseas registration.

    2. I have used an alternative documents form to reregister a motorcycle that was no longer in the system. I have already written a post on this at length (different standards, no one actually seems to interpret the law in a consistent manner etc.) The form was submitted with photos (original plate, original WOF sticker on plate, original dealer sticker) proof of frame number and engine number all for them to CONSIDER whether the info I provided was sufficient to prove the vehicle had been on the road in NZ before because no record existed. If accepted, then the acceptance allows you, together with the rest of your proof to go through complaince for that vehicle.

What then is the point in the alternative document form if they just have a stack of paper records to search? It does not make sense. Surely any paper records (if they still existed)would be known about by people working in the group in charge of the very system in which the records pertain to? They would also still be in some sort of order and easily searchable,  I mean this is a government department we are talking about. We are also talking about records over 30 years old, there is no requirement for anyone to keep records that long.

These are the facts, face em, not barry rumours :) or show me the proof otherwise (and I am still waiting on proof that a higher being exists if you could sort that for the rest of us too.....)

  12. If what you are saying is true..... As far as l am aware records for deregistered cars during the computerization of the motor vehicle register in around 1986 were all deleted by accident by NZ Post?

Interested to know who the 'person' is that holds such records is because two top tier personal responsible for the motor vehicle register told me as per my top line.
