Being flagged for rust at the border is different to compliance though right?  So that capella could have a whole bunch more issues when taken for a compliance check, rather than just the initial check MAF (I think) does?

Luckily the guy gave me my money back for the atenza. I was just surprised that when I reported as shown to Land Transport they said someone checked and passed it so... meh

I directly asked the question on the capella listing regarding compliance and he responded border compliance but must mean border inspection.

Re - white s2 rx7 - I’m just presuming that it’s been though the NZ compliance process is a good sign, all legal on the road I thought 30k was pretty good buying

There are some shonky as VTNZ compliance operators out there....... take my 2012 Mazda Atenza new import experience as an example.

Car looked immaculate from above. The car had been flooded in Japan, and had a mint respray. I don't even know how it was complied. Well actually I do, they got a rattle can and sprayed the entire underside (including the sump) and slapped on layers of underseal to try and hide it. It wasn't until I moved the drain bung in the boot floor to see the rust. See pics below.

This is a wheel bearing worse than cars I have seen that are 80 years older. This car was complied and Land Transport didn't give a toss.

    Photos don't look as bad as it was in real life around the bung;

How the f is this compliable? People have to strip entire classic cars to get complied and this gets through with NO comments...

There has been two questionable condition Capella / 616s come in from Asia recently too. Only flag for rust is in the drivers floor pan (insert Tui sign here.) Anyone that knows rust is surely not going to believe the drivers floor plan was the only area to rust that bad.

VTNZ did the compliance check. Its hypocritical when  re registering old deregistered cars in NZ with new paint they can be directed to be stripped to bare metal yet countless imported cars with fresh paint jobs and obvious structural rust issues just somehow dodge that bullet completely.

Is the black 3 Alastairs? It looks similar to his one/maybe was his one/still is/haven't seen him in years tbh.

Yep (well was, now in Hamilton according to others) I know he had a couple of RX4s, one def a black coupe and I know he had more. Naturally presumed it was his trifecta.

Same car - HARDON, Chap in Manawatu (who has/had all three coupes above) didn't sell then?  Cause this person in Oz was advertising it for 120K in Oz shortly after it was sold on FB for 70K (Said 80 above but looking through old posts it says 70k)

Well he did. Black 3 coupe was talked about a many posts back. Sold for 80k? Immediately posted for sale in Oz for about 40k more.

Wealthy parents + owned cars for years.

  6. Hey guys,

Years ago, circa late 2014 I had a RD350 and RD250 in pretty rough condition. I sold them and I am pretty sure I sold them to someone or people on here?

I have tried searching, no bueno. It was pre-forum update so either I cleared my message box or the update is to blame.

Anyway, here are pics of said bikes =

If it was you that bought them and still has them or know who has them now, please get in touch. I found something I think the current owners will like :)

    No idea man

AIso, IMO, for that money I would expect the engine bay and interior to be absolutely faultless.....

Know the guy that owned that car in NZ. Sold for 70k, less than a week later listed in Oz for $120k. Also person advertising it sold an R100 that is destined for NZ. Maybe they did some sort of deal.

  8. The real issue here has nothing to do with selling 'as is' or what that means. Selling 'as is' does not override obligations as a seller. Yes there is an expectation that people do their own due diligence when buying second hand but that's not as important as the seller representing the vehicle fairly.

A sale and purchase with the known issues recorded is a must to protect yourself as a seller. At the least, mention any issues in listings on trademe etc. I'm not sure the conditions of the form on here are quite right or binding. Be interested to hear if this was used in a disputes tribunal case because it is effectively getting the buyer to contract out regarding issues that may arise.

For a dispute in the disputes tribunal, it will be based on whether you knew there was a problem and therefore misrepresented the car when you sold it.

If they asked you if it had any problems and you said no, but recall a story where it overheated, you may be liable. It will be their word against yours.

If they can prove that the issue didn't just happen / you knew of the issue and didn't bring it to their attention, you may be liable.

In saying that, if he noticed an issue in Taupo and drove it the remaining 5 hour journey, well then that weighs heavily in your favour.

If I was you I would start making notes of any conversation now just in case. Harder to remember what was said if you try to recall it a year down the track.

Some people will threaten disputes tribunal to get money. Most will not follow through.

70k for an 808!? I struggled to get half that a year ago. Hard to imagine the extras on this made it worth double mine....wow. Good for current owners, bad for wannabe owners, just like the housing market.

  10. Looks like the SA / FB RX-7 market is being flooded on trademe. When was the last time you saw around 10 x 1st gen RX-7s for sale?

    xhMOBPC.jpg

No sales of LHD models around 20k

RHD models being offered for 60k.

Clearly some people on there have started cleaning out the South African Market of Datsuns and Mazdas. Rather suspiciously all cars that seem to come out of SA have new paint jobs....

  11. So stoked for you. Needs some 3 piece wheels and done.

A mate of mine (who has owned at least 10 x 1600s in the last 20 years, a bit of an expert and still owns a fj20et one.. ) told me that when it comes to Datsun 1600s, UJ axles may be less smooth but CV axles click and fail bad when 1600s are lowered where they need to be lowered to.

I'm gonna run UJ myself. I'm also gonna run R180 clutch LSD from a Subaru STI 2004. Much better than viscous. Only some 2004-2006  STI  are R180 clutch type 3.9, so you need to do ya homework.

See this site for total LSD conversion info. Same same as 240z and 240k.

You will need 27 spline stub axles for the subaru conversion. Standard Nissan is 25. I got mine from Kameari in Japan, cheaper and better than the US equivalent that people talk about.

  12. Ahhh, I saw you this morning putting along Langley. Nice bike! Unless there is another one as tidy with a green helmeted rider.

Disappointed I had had my headphones on so I was late to turn and see.

  13. Yeah I did have a very tidy 808. Tidier and more complete RX-3 wise than every other RX-3 example I have seen come up for sale recently asking 40k or more.

Wouldn't you rather have this genuine 42k no wof no reg example?

But, this be THE perfect RX-3 and best worldwide in my opinion. Colour, stance, wheels, all trim inc fender mirrors
