Sweet 1200! man I'm loving those wheels too. What method are you using to polish up those bits?
The progressive sand-then sissal wheel method
Check out;
http://www.poleringsguide.se/english/
Got step by step instructions.
-
Very tidy.
What did the powdercoating set ya back (if you dont mind me asking).
Hmmmm, it cost me $100 but that included sand blasting all the parts.
-
Polishing mk2 =
Its all about the elbow grease. I can only handle about an hour + 1/2 before the tips of my fingers get fucked and I start feeling sick from dust (yes thats with a mask too!)
Have not even started the actual polishing yet, the better the prep, the better the result.
And got my powder coated parts back today! Look better than I thought they would.
With nolathane bushes in;
Just taken my steering box into Mosrax to get it refurbished, then it can all start going back together

the SHIT "auto gauge" ones are the ones that are poo quality with a little red "auto gauge" logo on the face. I only ever seen em come in white or silver face too....

REAL Autogage (made by Autometer)

Found some old junk yard pics i took from quite a few years ago, a few of the pics were taking at BJ's wreckers in wiri. Some were from variuos places in ozzy.
Well not all of them are destroyed, the one above you imported and sold to me.
I bought it off you for 3k I think?
Here it was as I bought it;
I then sold it for $2500 unchanged.
Then I got my hands on a desperate mofo selling his uncompliable Batty for $4000
I then swapped the Batty for the 1300 Coupe (same guy still had it but had done shit loads of work!) in this guise
Had cut corners in places though and he drove it still umcomplied to the summer drags (Tauranga to Auckland) with the standard junkyard-havent-been-driven-on-for-years 1300 brakes!!!! Fucking dangerous to say the least with a 200hp j-port! (got a greenie for his trouble.)
Complete with 12A J-PORT
I then sold the shell less motor and box and heaps of other bits for $4k to a guy in Palmy.
Then got sold again to some dude in Masterton who wanted to turn it into a R-100.
Still alive somewhere in Masterton I believe......
EVERYTHING is worth saving, I sure made some money from it and I bet you did 2 Andrew.......

For those not familiar with the "GX" here are some pics, spot the differences!
And I am gonna do the red stripes
-
Looks awesome dude, GX stuff ftw also... are you gonna do the stripe down the side as well?
The 125, fuck... what was that guys name... Freyberg eh? Grey one...
Yeah gonna do de stripes, and it was Mike Picketts 125. Had a worked 125T motor with sidies etc. Man we gave him so much shit about it being a Lada. Was real tidy though. The mustard coupe I talk of was Tim Inwoods. He has had some REAL tidy 1600s since then including a FJ20 turbz one.
Yeah the A15 is worked as it says in the post. Larger pistons, higher comp, shaved, ported, lumpy, double springs, sidies etc.....
-
Feel free to give comments / feedback........

Then I had the engine bay re-painted (only thing holding her back, body wise;
Here are a few pics of the engine bay done (its dusty now though damn it!);
My crossmember, arms, engine mounts, swaybar are all being powder coated this week.
Have all new Nolathane bushes for front end.
Yesterday I spent 3 + 1/2 Hours de-flooding my garage after some torrential rain last week! (12 buckets of water removed yall!) Man I was fucked off, a lot of stuff in boxes and boxes got soaked. Spent ages moving and sorting and hence is still untidy in above pics.
Have started polishing and modding some bits. Removed the Mitsubishi symbol from rear of alternator, and casting numbers from front cover. (will keep updating with progress)
Til next time.............................

Seats bolted in, mock up the dash and it fits sweet (so it should)
Its a Japanese JDM Sunny GX dash too, another rare item. Never seen another in NZ
The "GX" was the top of the line 1200 Sunny in Japan. It had the fancy bonnet (as pictured), different dash (as pictured) different badges which I am working on getting and a better head with larger ports and twin carbs. The later model ones came with 5 speed gearboxes too.
I hope to have mine up to GX spec. I only know of one real GX Coupe in NZ, and I know the owner well
Then I lowered it with springs and leaves from Japan (bear in mind no motor in at this point)
Lowered it about 70mm
The motor I have is an A15, bored to 80mm, larger flat top pistons, lumpy cam, ported head (not head shown) , double valve springs, 40mm Dellortos blah blah.....
These pics are after I just stripped and repainted the block. Stupid repco only sells one type of blue - Ford! (oh well close enough to Nissan blue)
HIJACKED BY THE DARK SIDE OF THE FORCE!!!
-
BLING BLING!!
And who knows what this is????? MUWAHAHAHAHHA
Thanks to the Mystery Man.... Its a rear as FUCK; GX Bonnet
But some clown has put a large skim of bog over almost the entire thing? And in vain, as there is no rust and only a few really minor dents????? And no the scoop is not made of bog, shes all tin.

Hey All, bout time I posted my coupe up in this piece
I always loved the 1200, had a mate back in the day who had a mustard coupe with a worked A12. It was quick! And gave another mates worked 1600 twin cam Fiat 125 regular hidings!
Probably has a lot to do with the weight, not too many cars lighter that this puppy which tips the scales barely over 700kg
1972 Datsun 1200 Coupe.
Another sweet thing about these is the interchangibility from other Datsuns.
It will be running;
A15 (From Sunny)
60A 5-speed box (from Sunny)
H165 diff (from 1200 Ute - bigger diff that can handle SR20DET)
1200 Ute crossmember (so A15 will bolt straight in)
B310 Sunny bottom arms (bolt in more neg camber)
B210 120Y swaybar (20mm instead of standard 17mm straight bolt in)
B310 Sunny castor rods (more castor adjustment)
280ZX struts and brakes (shorter than standard, same dimensions less offset and they pull up 2.8 litre turbos dont they?)
B310 Sunny modified 5 core radiator
C20 Nissan Caravan Internally regulated Alternator
E15 Pulsar electronic distributor
just to name a few things.......
Here it is when I first got her; (I am second owner)
Original tool kit, all tools embossed with Nissan.....
Without wheels...
Wheels with new Advan A048 (same as Cheater 5 )
With new wheels, but too much glare with garage door open. So will take better ones on a crappier day with less sun (WHAT did I just say that??)

Old Palmy styles ay, not long before we all return to our rootes!
Just think 12 years ago we started this shit in the same sort of cars we now own, driving round and round the square......
I have moved up from 12 years ago though, back then it was an orange Hillman Hunter, these days its a DATSUN!
WIKID car men, its seriously mint. When my datto is going I will have to come back to palmy and we will have to go for a cruise for nostalgic purposes.....

Auto movements in Welly, sure I got an rx7 down from aux to welly for $450 ish...?
-
hmmm, I went into a VTNZ just a matter of days ago. I purchased a junker I was parting out that I paid for about a month ago. I got a letter from LTSA last week "reminding" me to change the ownership (as the seller had filled out the seller/disposer card). Since I was parting it out away I went with the plates and $9.20
I filled out the deregister form first, which the lady at the desk entered.
I then went to hand her the change of ownership and $9.20 and she said "Why would you want to change the ownership? I have just deregistered it, keep your $9.20."
WTF?!?!? I was thinking?!?!?! I had just deregistered a car that was not even in my name......? Was it because he had filled out the disposers card first?
-
That ute is gonna be tiiiiight. They handle mean too. I used to have the Mag and Turbo Wellington one as a company car. It had a worked A15 and handled like a friggin go cart.
Nice brakes, how do they effect the offset? Still got the design at the engineers? I gots a 1200 coupe that I want to upgrade the brakes without effecting the offset too much.
Check it out on http://www.datsun.co.nz
PM if ya can chat about ya brakes.

HIJACK!!!!!
-
No way, Bevan at Mag and Turbo Lower Hutt is the best, they have a top end machine with a plastic head which will not damage your rim in any way/shape/form. Add to that he has been doing it for YEARS and he smokes all the other 1 year experience monkeys in town.

Ohh man, that sux , real real bad....
Push the cop for a careless driving charge against that lady. If he knows his job properly there is no other way to solve it (ie there is no infringement notice for hitting a parked car.) And besides she has already admitted she was 'careless' by saying she was driving AND tending to her kids If insurance is not going to pay, you can seek reparation through the court as part of the careless driving charge (get a couple of quotes for repair and give copies to the coppa.)
Sorry to see Gloria like that dude
