  1. i cut people out of crashed cars for a living. General rule of thumb, bigger is better as far as older vehicles go. If you hit a truck, doesn;t matter about airbags you're usually poked. Modern audi's, bmw's etc are amazing, but as far as older cars go, mercs and bmw's, old falcons (late 70's/early 80's) arent too bad. Anything toyota/nissan/mitsi/mazda etc from 60's to early 2000's aren't fantastic apart from as mentioned above full chassis cars usually arent too bad for their age. And obviously as i said depends what you hit at what speed

  2. and when he said he didnt have any problem with (getting) insurance, he wouldn't unless he tried to make a claim and then insurance would have a "get out of paying" card as its got an uncertified engine conversion. It would be relatively easy to keep getting wof's from your local friendly wof man, but if you ever had a ding is the major issue in my mind. Keep trying to get cert cost out of him but just be prepared to stump up yourself for your own piece of mind?? (or send the boys round after july 9th for some persuasion/nah)

and reading that add would lead me to believe its all factory, as mentioned multiple times throughout the add

  3. Yeah silicone is my backstop option. just trying to find out if anyone knows of any companies or actually has done this for their own car before I give up and buy a tube or two. I've got shuks to try, and I've contacted spectrum rubber in Aussie, just waiting for a reply. Hopefully someone closer to home can do it!! Cheers

  4. cool, i'll try shuks on monday. Had a go with making one, went ok but there's different heights/angles and flanges on the gasket, and because these cars rust so badly want as good a seal as possible. Cheers

  5. datsun 1200 sedan. You would think for a popular model like this with some many repro parts available it would be easy but no . Tried basis, no go. Dont really want to go down the sealant route yet because some parts of the gasket are up to 15mm's thick (thats a lot of poo!!!)

  6. anybody know of any companies that are able to make rubber/foam gaskets for tail lights etc?? taillights gaskets i need for my car aren't just flat, so to make the boot water tight i want to get some new ones made up (NLA from manufacturer). Tried basis, no go. Any other idea's?? cheers

  7. know nothing about rx's, but if its going to be a mission to find/get over here in timeframe is it possible to retrim/make parts of interior you need from NZ available gear?? buying interior from oversea's could be a pain in the arse, one mans mint condition might not be anothers if you know what i mean. Could a decent autotrimmer make what you want??

  8. I'm from Matamata, it is a nice town. Good car scene with everything from american muscle cars (matamata panelworks specialise in mustangs and have an open day every year) to rotaries and other old japanese cars. Locals are generally friendly, if slightly on the bogan side unless they own a horse stud. Relatively low crime rate, house prices aren't super cheap but ok, lots of money around town from horses and cows.

  9. driveline is pretty bulletproof, main rust area's are...the body. Where tray meets cab below rear screen, bottom of front guards where they attach to the body, bottom corners of doors, round rear wheel arches, floors in cab, sills, in each rear corner of the engine bay to the side of each bonnet hinge, and below front a pillars through the grills below windscreen. Look up under dash on either side and if you see any rust, its a bit of a bastard to fix. These are the main spots. Awesome little utes though, i've got a couple and love 'em
