oh man, I'd rock those on my wagon. where do I get them?! #8 )
I just googled the image.

My local WOF guy is a GC on the whole. Lets me sort out minor issues in my own time, but seems fair on the whole.
Saw some of these on a car in Welly this week.

Hmm? Certainly big enough
I'm in Te Horo though, and the old thing is a bit shagged out. Depends if you want high precision work or not.

The spec weight is probably 'dry'as well.

Who's this, at Kimbolton today?

You reckon the housing is still straight after all that welding on it?

I'm an NSRA member, its a good club but real tight knit. you will have to go to a few meets etc before you can join though to make sure you fit in/aren't a dick haha
I'm a member too, but it won't help with the HCTM - The NSRA aren't affiliated to NZHRA, and they won't look that kindly on non-US or non-Aus cars I think.
-
Not online AFAIK. If it is then likely an illegal copy. Each copy is numbered for tracking/updates.
It is cheaper if you are an NZHRA member (affiliated through a hotrod club).

Feckin hawks can be scary. I collected one years back in a Chevette. Seemed like it hit the screen right in front of my face. Didn't break though, which was lucky. Now I mostly slow down and give them time to get into the air before I get there.
Was that you stopped by the Otaki river this arvo?

Some great stories here. I grew up in Nelson and toured the car factory as a school trip. A friend of my parents worked there, assembling Triumph 2500's and Austin Princesses!
Here's a couple of the Morris Series E after an 'incident'

so its not often done but may be possible and would require significant consultation for signoff?
It's is fairly commonly done for early ford forged axles. The pics you posted are for leaf springs or something, so might be a bit harder to get done.

My father had a worked Austin A30 IIRC. Running high compression with skimmed head. He said it chewed up exhaust valves quickly. Also older cars like Morris Series E (real old school).
They bought this Kingswood new in 1971. I've got it now.

Sure, whip up a chassis and suspension, fit 1UZ, fit Morris body. Slam dunk!
Here's one with an LS1

It's getting harder and harder to get smaller 4-cyl RWD engines that suit conversions.
I liked my factory injected 4AGE Morris, if it fits in a Morrie, then should be easy in a Viva, but as noted above the RWD aspect of the 4AGE is getting more complicated and expensive.
How about a Zetec, they seem to more convertible to RWD, and are more current I think.

Nah dude, that's a Honda Accord
Har de Har.

Seen from the road, somewhere between Dannevirke and Waipuk
Not sure what the wagon is, looks to be a US tank.
Was more further along the road, but didn't stop for a pic.

I've got a set of greenlee (chassis) punches up to 100mm or so, and a hydraulic puller that I could bring down sometime?
Did try to make some swaging dies once, but was fail city.

I give the inside spaces a blast with a zinc spraybomb before welding up. Even though some burns off it will protect it galvanically for a while. Best to sand the zinc paint off the outside edges where you are welding (if using mig) as it makes it a bit nasty otherwise.
Don't inhale the fumes from the burning zinc - nasty stuff.
Cavity wax after completion is a good idea.

I don't seem to have any pics of the engine install. As I recall it was tidily done.
I had this one later as a paddock hack. Sat in the paddock for about 5 years after it stopped being a runner. Scrapped finally.

The dark green one was a stocker. Ran it from Nelson to Chch for uni for a few years. Repaint at some stage. Rebuild diff and engine. Crashed into an Alfa in Auckland. Finally got sick of fixing/tuning the 1256 so sold it off once I got the modified one. Probably dead now.
The light green one was 2TG powered. Ran pretty good really. Sold in ~1992 due to new interest/girlfriend. Was bought by the dude who ran Road and Track in Lower Hutt. Saw it a few years later at Ron's (?) workshop in LH, the dyno tuning guy. Was parked inside getting dusty. Wonder if it is still around. Second pic with plate was after getting busted for now front plate. Car was built AFAIK by the panelbeater guy I got it from in UH.

Nice looking Viva. I didn't know that they did high spec models. With stripes even!

Looks like it has to be reverse-switched, or only operate when the headlights are off.
See here:

Oh my, that won't buff out.
The blue one went to the great scrapyard in the sky soon after. The local garage that picks up my hulks for scrap said I hadn't left them much on that one. Well duh! The 186 from it is in the white Kingswood presently though.

This is how I did it. Might have failed the no damage provision though.

The big ones for railway use have a central pivot on a rounded pin, then just some light wheels on the outside. This approach means you need to get the car fairly well centred though - not so much of a problem with the rails.
