  1. I've got an air grinder (chinese style) and I don't find it overly fabulous. Might be the stones, or the fact that grinding steel is a slow process.

For electric, I think a flexible shaft grinder would be the way to go. DuMore is the 'classic' brand (I kick myself for missing bidding on a couple at Dunbar Sloane last year) but there are knock-off version available.

  2. Another few months - another dead EFI pump. For some reason they die after sitting unused in a part-full petrol tank.

So, quick escape from work, racing change into old jeans, and up to pick-a-part in Wingate. Only to find that every modern Nissan (like post-1992) has a plastic pump carrier that is different to the bolt-in one I build my fuel tank around. In the end I pulled the pump unit from a dead Skyline and lashed-up a mounting inside the old carrier I had. So, it runs again, and I can move it off my lift when I get the front wheel back on.

Before I do that I need to get some dimensions on the front suspension so I can draw it up for TAC approval. 6th Form Tech Drawing skills will be called on finally!

  3. I think it was about 3500 in freight. I kinda try to forget the money side of it all.

Is the 64 a sedan or wagon - can't be many around? did they still have stuff like the breezeway window? I love that mad shit. The 62 mercs are probably my favourite of that period.

I was basically running a 2 barrel - just unblocked the jammed secondaries, hopefully should be more fun when I get it back on.

I've got a 62/63 pdf manual if you need, might have some shared bits.

Convertible. The sedans have the breezeway window - like an anglebox.

We bought it in Indiana and drove it a bit there before shipping home. Pretty much been a driver since then. I also keep my bonnet down. Probably saw you at the BH!

  4. I had a Starlet with a 4K, one night I was driving (sans battery clamp as it turns out, cheers previous owner) and the battery tipped over and arced on the radiator crossmember.

Managed to open the engine bay and move it so it wasnt arcing anymore, but battery was toast.

Walking distance from home though so pinched a battery from another car.

Swapped battery in while it was pitch black, this battery had been sitting for a while so I had to roll start the car.

    Got it home no problem.

For the next few months the starter motor and the radio didnt work, but since the car was never going to get another wof I never bothered investigating.

Turns out I'd been driving with the battery around backwards for the last 3-4 months, everything worked fine except for the starter motor and radio haha.

Having old British cars, it is no big deal to swap battery polarity. You need to re-magnetise the generator, but everything else like the starter will work OK (points ignition of course). I imagine it is a bit more tricky with an alternator, or electronic ignition.
