  1. "Almost all automotive coils use a 0.25-0.29 microfarad capacitor."

Random google result. They are just a capacitor. I can't imagine that there is much difference in the actual mFD rating of them. Could totally be quality differences though.

I've always understood that they basically stop arcing at the points, so the value won't matter very much, so long as they achieve the objective.

  2. I tested one today, using a spare (charged) battery. B+ wire to battery +, random 12v lamp from battery + to D+ on alt. Case ground to battery -.

Used a angle grinder (with a stripping disc on it) to spin it a bit. Light went out. Called it good (for now). Now have to figure out wiring into a 1964 Mercury with no charge light. Hmm.

  3. You are right. I should have looked closer/had less beer.

Came from a random box of swap meet parts. There's a 3/4 inch wilwood M/C in there that has one of the mounts swan off, and the pushrod shortened right up. Who does such things?

I used the complete sets on my project :-)

  4. Generation 1 apex RSM uses a sensor so is legal.

I had just finished removing the dash cluster and about to start to replace it with the alloy panel when my cousin (who is a wof inspector) said that unless the car retains its stock cluster its not going to get a cert or a wof as it must remain stock. Read the wof requirements but could not find anything. please can someone shed some light on this for me? I think i have just wasted money on my race-looking dash instrument cluster.

Seems like bollocks to me. Lots of hot rods use aftermarket gauges, or something from a different vehicle.

  5. I used two willwood ones.

I think I used some hoses from a Hiace van, as Beaver notes.

Biggest pain was making the fitting to go into the master cylinder. I built two of these and had them cad plated.

  7. Been on holiday down in Nelson/Golden Bay area.

I reckon it must be the best hunting ground for old school survivor cars. Quite a few still look to be in daily use by retirees etc.

    Now back in Nelson.

This Lada is just down the road from my parents place. The same family used to have a Renault Dauphine, and a Vauxhall Victor (IIRC) mouldering under the tree, but they disappeared a few years ago.

    Lots of Minis around.
