Any of these tail lights for sale?
Been trying to figure out what i may do on the rear of my current project.
Thinking those could look ok one pointing up and one down on each side kinda like you have them laid out.
Whats the dimensions of one light assembly? width and height.
If you have four decent spares then flick me an email with some pics etc of each. alextowart at gmail dot com
Doing some nice fab work man.
Alex
They are about 270mm high and 140 wide each.
Those lenses are all pretty rooted, some of the chrome backing plate are probably OK. I'll take a look soon (there are stored out of reach right now).
I imagine lenses are available from the UK.

that tail gate, really, doesnt look toooooo bad to repair.
I have a spot welding drill you can borrow if you like?
Bought one today actually.
I think it'll work out OK, just deciding on whether I remove the skin entirely. There's a few internal braces in there that might get in the way, it has some dents that need work too.

Still thinking about the tailgate approach. Need to acquire a spot weld drill before doing much more.
Topped up the shocks slightly - interesting suspension design, the shock arms are the upper link and the armstrong shock sits horizontally. Disconnected the arms on this side to work it up and down.
Both shocks look to have been replaced, maybe not long before this was parked up?
Checked/cleaned the brakes on both sides and had a grease gun session on the front suspension. Wheels are back on now as I need to move it off the lift soon for suspension work on my daily (WOF issues pfft)
Next little job is to get the cruddy thermostat housing off - going to be a hacksaw mission it seems.

Usual rule for attaching things is every 300mm.
It would help if 'the book' had an index. Or was searchable.

Let's see how long before it gets another motor.....
But yeah for now I just wanna cruise.
Gotta be a 1256 hanging around somewhere for you.

I have a 5yo birthday party to go to in the Hutt so not sure on timing.
May bring 16yo also.
/Or stay home and work on a rusty british heap.

I don't foresee heavy/extended use. Mostly the odd screw and some spotweld drilling.
Last time I got a corded ozito from bunnings for $50, but the chuck bearing thingy is getting all loose and floppy now.

I need a new driller.
It seems the modern hammer drills are used for normal drilling too?
Thinking of this
M12 Hammer Drill M12CPD-202C
- Brushless Technology
- 40Nm torque
- No-Load speed 0-450 / 1700 rpm
- 13mm Chuck
- 25500 BPM
- 2 x 2Ah batteries 30 min charger
- $414:00
This is for home shed use. Not sure I can afford the M18 version.

Don't you need a working speedo for WOF?

Lolz my warrent guy once said I needed a high stop light for the LTD.
First I told him it was registered here in 71,
And also there's the fact that the brake lights go across the whole fucking ass end, I can clearly see all the faces in the car behind me if I brake at night.
Is that LTD back on the road yet?

When did high stop lights become compulsory as a retro-fit on old cars? I remember when they were first a thing in NZ in the early '80s all the talk was about how all new cars had to have them.
They had to be fitted depending on first registration date in NZ, so didn't need to be retro fitted to old NZ cars, but anything imported had to have them.

Yeah, and the complications about the flashing brake lights as indicators on US cars.
I read about it in the latest NZ Rodder.

Surely the coke bottle styling the and fantastic wheels will win over the WOF tester?

Front is now the correct colour and done for now (bar reassembly, I'll let it set for a few days first).
Refitted the swaybar and links with some new bushes. Bit of a mission getting those crushed enough to get the nuts back on.
Went hunting for some grease nipples behind the brake backing plate. Found plenty of crud - maybe 50 years worth? I reckon there is a least a kilo of grease and dirt on the paper. There seems to be quite a bit of vertical movement of the hub on the swivel pin. Will ignore for now I think as addressing it means quite a bit of dismantling and probably new thrust washers.
Pulled the tailgate off. Hmm.

If you have just filled the radiator right up they will burp some water out until the 'natural' level is reached - maybe a few cm's lower. Keep an eye on it though.
-
Sorry this looks terible. I'm sure it's fine but my gosh... it's not my thing.
It's OK, I wouldn't buy one either.

As of 1 December you don't need a high level stop light on pre-1990 vehicles
The Associate Minister of Transport, Hon Craig Foss, has signed into law 13 amendment Rules thatmake minor changes to existing Land Transport RulesThe changes to Vehicle Lighting 2004 ....remove an requirement to fit high mounted stop lamps to vehicles registered or manufactured before 1 January 1990http://www.ecos.co.nz/files/Omnibus_Amendment_2016.pdf
Means I don't need to keep the (detached) high level light under the seat of the Mercury I suppose.

There was one of these ecombo campers (NZ Made) next to as at a camp last year.
Seemed pretty sweet as long as you don't mind doing everything except sleeping outside (without the tent extension anyway).
Pricey but.
/buy a tent/

Anyone use a ZP (Zinc Phosphate) primer for weldthrough duties?
I guess I need to pick up some, probably a spray bomb as welding though 1K primer/ top coat is a bit nasty.
