We have a lot of space, and making them a bit longer would be good to scavenge a bit of mid range power. 200mm collectors? And will the taper be hard to do? Apparently it's important.
-
That would be beautiful! Thanks man.
I may be up this weekend (Sat night/sunday for the rally), if we decide to do it I'll be in touch.
-
Cheers man!
Got approximate lengths for the headers now.
Primaries - 450mm from the flange to the start of the collector, 45MM ID.
4-2 Collectors - ~100mm long, 45mm ID entries > 50mm Exit
Secondaries - 340mm from collector exit to collector entry - 50mm.
2-1 Collector - ~100mm long, 50mm entries > 55mm exit
Taper from 55-60mm 100MM long, then 2.5" for the rest of the exhaust.

**Touches wood**
I'd touchin' my wood if this was my car too!
Was having a pplay around with my mrs' caldina on the weekend, and I couldn't see any dizzy, I assume spark is controlled by the ecu? Unless its tucked around on the inlet side somewhere?
What have you decided to do in the ECU department?
They have no Dizzy, it's all run by the ECU through a crank angle sensor and coils, but we've done it differently. Jase has machined bits for me so the Gen3 Dizzy would slot into the back of the head, meaning the old wiring and ECU could be used.
He also did a mint job of the intake cam gear, which is a bit more complex than your average adj gear...
So I spose, after a few days worth of Machining, welding and other custom work it is now Plug and Play (Fingers crossed).
Oh, I cranked it over today as well... But the battery and jumper battery were too flat to get the oil pressure up (with the plugs in).

Shush please!!!!

Cheers man... Hopefully it'll be going sexy soon!

Best bet is probably lower hutt powertool centre, but ring around.

What he said.
It's listed in the makita catalogue, but will be $$$$ from them.

Sweet dirt track car!

The port spacings are different, but I may have to do it anyway. The Altezza manifold won't clear the starter motor, so I'll get a flange cut up and try to make the old ones fit.
The problem is that I think the old manifold loses a lot of torque... Since it has 2" primaries, 2.25 secondries and a 3" collector. It should be just as good as a standard manifold for the time being though.
-
Yeah it's leaning back on a block of wood at the moment, but I think the angle of the pics accentuate the lean. It's always had a bit of a rearward list though.
-
It just looks that way, the mounts are pretty much identical to what they were before...
Should have a radiator in today for a propper comparison.
-
Matte black hard top is the best IMO....
Agree on the tail pipes... Just get a Sabre saw and cut them off flush .
-
Having holes at the end of your welds might be because you don't have enough "post flow" of gas when you finish the weld, or are pulling away too quick. It is just a single pinhole in the last part of the flow?
-
It's in for good this time. We decided it would be easiest to install the engine and trans separately because of the way the mounts work. Box will go in tomorrow.... Manifold time!
Still can't believe how well the Dizzy fits in there... It's almost factory (But lurks in the shadows in all of these pics).

Keen... What do you drink? I'll be at Manfeild on Sunday but we will be able to sort it.
-
^^^ Keen for this - halves in beers?
-
Hey guys!
So I'm not going to make it to hawkes boes ... Can someone do a beer job for me?
I need a bonnet delivered from the Shiteau to Palmerston North, and I think this is the ideal opportunity.
Who wants 12 beers?
-
Do need to get a wheel alignment for the 124 some time in the next 3 weeks though
I like where this is heading.
-
Choice!
You have 3 weeks.
