Buick V6 or a supercharged 4Y would be awesome.

Mines on a lean, so they needed to be like that for clearance. Pic was to explain the style of flange and use of the adapter plate.
Going to make it a lot shorter when the engine is stood up with long trumpets. Something more like this:
-
That's OK, we didn't end up having the meet last time...
I'm thinking we should organise a mid-month meet and head somewhere for a BBQ / Fish'n'chips.
-
So it starts from completely cold and goes to completely hot at the same rate as your revs over 3000rpm? Or it goes up to halfway and no further?
Check the connection with the temp sender. Pull the sender out and clean it up, make sure it has a good connection with the head (that's how it's earthed). If that doesn't work, steal the sender from a corolla that you spot up the road and try it.
-
Split the topic so discussions are separate.
I'll more than likely be there for Wagnats this year.... But will steer away from goon sacks found in the rubbish bin I think .
-
On toyotas the issues is normally a bad connection on the temp sender, which makes the gauge wiggle and turn off all the time.
This sounds like you have a clogged radiator or an airlock in the system that is making it heat up under load. The waterpump could be on the way out too.

Soviet tank motor in the rear, gokart storage up front?
Cool wagon bro.I've got a fiat twin cam engine sitting here.... Has large cams and some other nic-nacs.
I have a mate making a mid engined 2 door fiat 128 - he needs a new engine... is it for sale?
Yep, it was built by Gary Haar quite a while ago and I'm going to ring him to find out the fine details. Never been run. PM me.

Cool car man! That engine/chassis combo will be a lot of fun when it's done.
Just a word of warning - those Jamex seats aren't too great and flex a lot when you're sitting in them. You'll be more comfortable and more confident in something solid like a Racetech.
-
Its so hard to know where to stop.
Tell me about it! But if you don't take a few compromises you will never have it finished.
Here's the manifold we made for my leaned over application:
As you can see it uses the factory adapter with no intermediate plate - doing this makes the process a lot quicker and easier. I don't see why you wouldn't use it when making a new manifold.
It has the same taper as the port and is perfectly round at the exit which means you don't have to change the shape of your tube before the flange. If you want to go bigger than the standard runner dia it will be easier to machine this out than it will be to make a runner that changes shape - you can use 4 pieces of straight alloy tube and weld it to each flange. This makes it really easy to get the ports matched too as you can bolt the mani to the plate and die-grind until it matches.
We made the throttle flange on a normal mill with digital readout - you set up the measurements for one throttle first, then make holes, then find your centre mark and move along to the next one. It took ages to set up but Jase (eke_zetec_rwd) made it look easy. If you're using blacktop throttles you'll need to mill a little extra at the bottom to get the "kidney" shape and can port match both flanges after that.
I'm standing my motor up soon and the plan is to do the same thing again with straight runners.

??!?! fool when has rust work ever cost us a cent?
Sort your stz KK - this machine is required for wagon season to be a success.
-
Sweet old wagon spence! Shame about the lack of dickie seat though...
-
They're getting pretty easy to find but I want to build a fresh one...
Second hand pistons would be ideal right now.
-
Wow, genuine oversized pistons are expensive - $1700incl retail and $1012incl my price. That's .5mm oversized and includes new rings but could buy a whole good beams for that money.
Will have a search for second hand or aftermarket ones.
-
That's pretty much the plan. Not able to do anything too wild just yet.... That can happen a few years down the track. It would be nice to have power and revs to 8500rpm or more.
-
Got my Toyota man pricing up Manual Altezza pistons now. Might go to 86.5mm but not too sure yet.
-
Fuck yes. Looks good man.
-
Though that might be the case. Could easily kiss goodbye to 4K and only have the basics to start putting it together.
brb, gonna go sell myself on the street.
-
Nah they look to be the same. That's Auto dual-beams compared to redtop though - it's possible that the manual ones are different.
-
Does anyone know what's available in the way of aftermarket pistons for Beams 3SGE's? I just pulled my old engine apart and all 4 of the pistons are rooted from detonation, which sucks cause I wanted to use them for the next incarnation engine.
I'm going to price up new replacement pistons from Toyota tomorrow, but don't like the chances of them being cheap. Even standard-spec aftermarkets will be worth looking into if they're available - will get more compression by planing the head.
May also look into fitting the Gen3 pistons that are sitting on my bench but will need to do compression calculations and make sure they will clear the valves.
Also, if anyone has (or knows of) any rogue beams pistons that aren't being used then they can send a message my way. I think I only need one (have another set of 3 that are ok) but would prefer a set if possible.
-
I'll be there.

The best engine is the Kawasaki triple or the YZR500 4cylinder Yamaha.
-
Wow! A 3T that would be worth owning!
From this I think:
And in the earlier years:
The cars were powered by a four-cylinder engine that displaced 1.4-liters. With the help of a Garret turbocharger, horsepower was rather impressive, ranking at 700 - 750 horsepower. During its racing career, the cars would rack up an impressive 21 wins. -
Stoked! It's awesome to see a car from the forums doing well in the NZ car scene.... It's not too often you seem something cool win a prize here!
Cracks me up that Paul Henry has no idea what he's talking about.... Ever....
Cock.

I reckon the flare/wheel combo is pretty perfect right now. It's different to the traditional style for BMW's in a good way.
Not too keen on those other wheels though... The BBS's look great!
