  1. I've never seen this conversion before, but Toyota 5 speeds have been bolted to almost anything in the past.

The W50 gearbox is the old steel case box that hotrodders like. They are strong but heavy and don't share internals with the later W boxes. W40 is the same but 4 speed.

W55/56/57/58 are the best ones to choose from. They're all the same box apart from differences in ratios. They're all alloy case boxes and you can get 4-5 different shifter positions to suit whichever car you are using. W57 and 58 are the most sought after - prepare to pat $600+ for a good one.

  2. My old man has a set of dellorto's that might be for sale soon. He has a set with huge jets and 38mm chokes (set up for lumpy fiat twin cam 1800) and a set with smaller chokes (set up for Datsun A12). We can work something out if you can find a manifold.

Looks good too! I like that you're out-skidding a skidder.

  3. Glad it went well for you man!

I don't think that a swaybar will solve all your issues... They quite often cause the rear wheel to be picked up further rather than pull the body down. The normal race car setup guidline is to look at the opposite corner of the car to solve your issue. So if you're picking up rear wheels at the time the front may be traveling too far, pivoting the body on the opposite diagonal axis and raising the rear wheel. It's not a bad thing to pick up the rear in FWD though, but it needs to be sorted if it's anything like your original pics.

Stiffer shocks & springs in the front will work wonders for this... As well as multiple inches of extra slam :P .

  4. It won't be too hard. You will need to make mounts to go between the engine and cross member and a gearbox mount to suit a T50 or W series gearbox. Are you planning on running it on carbs or EFI?

This is more of a tech question, so I've moved it for you.

  5. Threw this back together and went for a skid on the weekend. The car went really well and I didn't need to touch it all day - bonus.

I've also dipped back into 1:20's for the first time since 2009.

I did ZERO car prep apart from skimming the discs and spent the day running on RA1 semi slicks... And was consistently around the 1:21 mark (+ -). This means I'm going to be too fast for the IB cup during winter series, so will need to run the old worn Advan's and possibly change gear at 7000. I don't want to cheat by doing a fast lap and slowing down on the straight, so if I go too fast and get penalised, so be it.

Here's the one vid I got from the day - first run against a V8 MX5. He had straight line speed but was slower in the corners.

    The bad:

My bonnet flicked up during the warmup of the first run after lunch... Some knob (possibly me) opened the bonnet and didn't put both pins back in while the car sat alone at lunch time. It folded the bonnet back and broke my original repair, but all damage is superficial. The bonnet needs a re-glass underneath and it hit with such force that the whole roof rippled and the rear view mirror fell off!

Meh, it's now a bit rougher and there's something more to do come refresh time. It now has the "golfball effect" to help it cut through the air :P .
