  1. Rust question .

Have the b1600 ready to start rust repairs, need to do the wiper cowl under the windscreen.

Wellside is mint, but the tray is rusty, holes and gaps. All the mounting points are sweet, it's just the floor, do I need to sort that before going for a wof ? or do they class that as not a structural part ?

Is no different to when you take the tough deck out of a modern falcon ute.

Will sort it one day, just want to get a wof and start using it .

  2. Righto, was running short on free time and thought about just sending Becky's ute out to be sorted.

But the need not to be a lazy bastard got the better of me, and I made some time over the last few nights.

Was lead to believe that it had bad rings, as was running like a sack, and fouling plugs, but after a play it looks like it might only be ignition problems.

put some new plugs in and cleaned out the distributor cap, ( that will get replaced along with rotor, points and condensers ) and it is starting and running like a champ.

Few little maintenance jobs sorted from it sitting outside for 4 years and it is starting to feel like a new ute.

Does need some new tail light lenses, og ones are weathered to hell, and door rubbers.

Have one problem to sort before rust repairs, the clutch is being a bitch, pedal makes the fork move, but when the ute is running you cant put it in gear, but if you start it in gear, you can depress the clutch and remain stationary.

Fluid is full, so I'm guessing air in the system or shav master / slave cylinder ?

If anybody has a boss kit for one of these I'm after one.

Also as soon as this reaches wof status it will become lower to the ground, at the moment that does not extend to bags and c notch, just springs and blocks, so anyone who has previous experience in doing so, advice would be great.

  3. I'm happy enough to pull the engine out.

Probably prefer that tbh , let me fell like I'm doing something towards it.

Just thought it might be easier for someone to diagnose what is wrong with it , with the engine in .

Went past rocky point on Friday, the blue datsun Ute looks good out front.

  4. I have a plan to get Beckys B1600 road going by the end of the year, without her knowing anything about it.

And the only way that is going to happen is if I don't do it myself, I don't need another rx2 12 year rebuild, and work is stupid crazy at the moment.

First thing on the list is the engine, the old boy she got it off said it was fouling #4 plug, now I've had it running, but like a bag of shit, so it needs someone to repair or rebuild, I would rather the rebuild that way we can warm it up a little.

Apparently it has a 626 2ltr in it, so I'm guessing that's a "ma" engine, no rocket ship, but Becky is dead set on keeping that engine.

So what I need is either an engine rebuilder or mechanic (an old school one, that actually can rebuild an engine) to sort it for me, drop off, pick up sort of thing.

Not very old school of me, but , too bad, I need it done, and done right.

So who knows of someone ?

I don't need some shop to stick it in the corner and get round to it, ( I can do that ) .

    recommendations  please

  5. Attitudes have changed a lot too.

For a lot now it all seems to be about the cost and profit. $5000 bonnets, lol.

People seem to be more interested in collecting parts and showing off than the cars themselves.

Every thing gets expensive over time I guess, was a time I turned down a 3 owner Xb coupe because $1600 was stupid money for that old shitta . Doh.

Have been pining for a gen 1 rx7 for a while.

Lhd definitely is a turn off, but the cars are a million times tidyer than anything left in nz. And that silver one looks hot.

  6. A quick wipe with a old KFC wet wipe.

We poured a bit of fuel down the carb, and it fired up, rough but running.

Found out this is a 2 owner ute, first owner was Mazda Timaru, so pretty stoked to find that out.

Wheels will stay sorry. Becky likes it as is, stripes and all.

Tray is rotted out at the cab end and wheel tubs. But no real biggie.

  7. Was talking to the old owner.

It has a 626 2ltr, 5 speed, and diff fitted.

Said that it went really well until it started fouling number 4 plug.

Looking forward to picking it up.

Rebekah has made it very clear that it's her car, and I'm not to pull it to bits.

Girls. Sheesh, it's not it would take 12 years to finish.
