    exhausts

I dont know what the VTNZ people are going to do, but after my last warrant there (the v3000) the guy came up to me; "Yea she is all ok, but I want to talk to you about your exhaust" me thinks : 'fuck, it quiet as....' says "um, ok" Him "It sounds just about perfect, nice and throaty. I have a v6 too, where did you get it done?" Me: just about pass out with relief. So there are the ones out there that will let it slide.... Providing you dont have the wanky hollow bark of the "Hey Mr Magoo, I got $150 for a full system and I want it loud as" people.
  2. Good luck and go hard, just follow books directions and fuck the naysayers I have a book that is called "how to rebuild your 1.3, 1.6 & 2.0 OHC FORD" If you get stuck or want a cross reference, pm me and I'll scan pages for you (if you are lucky ) just not the whole book.

just a note on exhaust wrapping..... Why Exhaust Wraps Suck If engine heat is a problem, how much do you love your headers? - bear in mind, I hae no personal experience with this.... Just info for the interested.

    Carb Throats

Howdee. Just had a look down the carb of my van (aisan carb, 3Y engine) and it is as black as the ace of spades down there. That is not normal is it? Would this be characteristic of backfires through the carb? or something more sinister? Im thinking about getting the toyota lads to have a look at it next weekend, because I am awful with carbs. Any thoughts?

    starting probs

check contacts on battery, and starter. Corroded (or broken) terminals on a battery can give enough current to light dash - but not pass enough amps to turn starter. Other option is to take off starter and test solenoid with jumpers and a spanner

    4k knocking

Check spark plugs, I had one die on my mitsi - wondered what the knocking was..... it was it running on 5 Sounds simple, but you'd hate to overlook it

    4k knocking

mine made a really bad ticking sound before the oil got up there. But a knocking? Like piston slap? Might not be th best omen.

    3.5L Rover V8

Im going to see it run on the weekend (probally). It sounds like a cheap price that he wants, to be fair. And when I said for the experience, its just to play with. Im have no intention of putting the engine in anything, just a play. Then when Im done flick off. But I have seen some articles on putting a holley on it - looks like a good start anyway.

    3.5L Rover V8

I was waiting for you to say that Mr RT..... Its more for the experience, but yea, I suppose they are a little lacking (for a V8 ) 195 hp for the 1985 version Im looking at http://www.philseed.com/rover-sd.html

    3.5L Rover V8

What would a running one (carb) with 4 speed auto (borg warner I think...) be worth?

    3.5L Rover V8

Hey people, I was thinking of buying a v8 to play with (just rebuild, maybe mod etc) and have decided(ish) on the leyland p76 in its 3.5L mode (due to ease of getting one, and the all alloy thing is appealing due to moving it etc) I know I can google mods and rebuilds etc, but has anyone had experience with these? Is there anything to look out for? Just fishing for ideas. Cheers People
  14. Thermostat? If you are looking for the wire from the water temp sender, look for where the coolant enters the block and it should be on a plug on one of the bends. If you cant see a wire, then there should be a water temp sender (looks like brass plug with wire or spindle sticking out top). If that is there but no wire, wire gone....

    paint stripping.

use a paint stripping disk for a grinder. Or a flexi sanding pad for a grinder. Good as gold at tearing paint off

    tuning a 4k carb

ok sweet - got the thing idling (a little high I think, but no tacho = no accurate idle) Now tuning... the air fuel mixture. What is a good approach? It not longer blows brown/black smoke after throttle... but how do I know its not running too lean? Or is this a jobbie for someone who is more than a backyard hack?

    tuning a 4k carb

    3Y engine question

cheers. Thats the sort of stuff I wanted to hear So for the temp guage, it might be easier to get an aftermarket one as opposed to fixing the in dash on?
  22. Hey people, Im looking at getting an 84 hiace (surf trip) and it has a 3y in it. It coughs and splutters when its cold (feels like very rich and exhaust pops when it splutters) but APPARENTLY runs fine when warm. What do you people know about these engines, and how would one go about tuning the carb? Also, the fuel guage and engine temp doesnt work (in dash) are they easy to fix? Any imput would be excellent

    Mitsi Spark Problem

Hi - cheers for the help, I think thats the later models, this is a single coil. I found the problem.... (spark plug) was fading, then went ahem, Ill go hid in the corner now....
  24. This is on my daily - my v3000 The engine sounds like not all cylinders are firing. I put a timing light around each lead and I got spark along the full length of each one, except number 1 cylinder. I have checked the resistance of the lead, its about right (well its about 2/3 of the one thats its 2/3 the length of). Does this mean I might have a poor contact in my dizzy? Is there any way to check how well the rotor is connecting? It just seems to me that the voltage being delivered down the lead is not high enough. Any insights/ hints and tips would be great!
