The main discussion for this cruise can be found here: http://www.nzdatsun.com/forums/viewtopi ... =12&t=1534

Last year this cruise saw 35 cars. I know of at least another 10 extra cars that should be attending this year.

It's going to be a Datsun extravaganza!

Once we arrive at the Hilltop we'll be having our prizegiving.

Those of you who have attended this cruise in the past will know that it is "the big one". And if you're able to attend, you wont want to miss it.

  2. If you're going to buy some new tools, check out these guys-

    www.harborfreight.com

Even though the prices are in US dollars, and you'd need to pay postage from the US the prices are so cheap that you'll save hundreds. My old Man bought a heap of tools there on past trips to the US. Even though it's mostly Chinese, the quality is plenty decent enough.

    It's too cheap!

  3. I'm no expert Rob. (Depsite what I might say when I've got a belly full of diesels ) But with lots of side clearance, might that not allow the oil to leave the big end bearing too quicky? Would not the side clearance with the standard A series set up slow down the oil's exit from the bearing?

    just a thought.

  4. there's nothing stopping anyonre from fitting a small fan to their oil cooler.

@Zep, yeah, with out a T/static oil cooler set up, your oil could theoretically be stone cold while your giving your engine beans. Especially with our bitter winters. When I eventually roll an O/C, I'm gonna roll a t/stat one for sures. You don't wnat oil scoured bearings.

  5. just to add to this thread, I busted out the very-near calipers today, and had a measure up. Aaaaaaand, it was 86mm. So yay! I got what I paid for. Just gotta slap it on the RB30 I scored for free and do skids now.

Oh, ftr, The casting numbers on it are; 08U 6

  6. Does anyone know what the casting numbers are on an RB25 head from an R32? I bought one off tardeme for an RB30 I'm going to slap together at some stage, but I wanna make sure what I have been sold an rb25 head, and not a shitty old RB20 head.

  7. ACC is FTW. I suffered injuries in a datsun crash 13 years ago, and my treatment must have cost ACC a fucking shitload. The cuntiest part is that we have been paying too little for the scheme to continue as it has done. So instead of copping a wee bit each year, while the nurse is distracting us with a clown doll, we're getting the barbed wire dildo rammed up our collective arseholes.

What rots my knob is the hike for scooters. I don't own a proper moto, (On account of I WOULD kill myself on one in no time) but for a machine with a top speed of fuck all to have to pay so much is a rort! If I was a motorcyclist, I would be livid.

They talk their bullshit spiel about the cost of moto injuries being xxxx, but how many of those crashes are caused by cunts in cars?

  8. The price hikes are absolutley jewish.

nifty rego is gonna cost in the region of $380! I went in yesterday and put as much rego in it as they'd sell me. (15 months from yesterday, whatever that works out to be) So thats almost doubling the cost of my rego. I don't even plan on crashing it and claiming ACC for my treatment. It's SO unfair!

  9. do ya reckon it would work on wool? And be colourfast if it was washed?

I dyed my old swanndri (Well I go the mrs to do it for me) at the weekend. Thing being that it's not 100% black, and you can still see the pattern vaguely. I thought I mite hit it with some of this stuff, and give it a go. I don't want to blow too much coin on it, (the garment is about 40%worn) but a new one is $300+ so it's worth a crack.

  10. Wow, a discussion thread! I thought it mustn't have been OS enough for the the boes on here.

In a word, slow. The old boy has been pulling things like the power windows apart, and giving them a tickle up so they work all G. (After all, that shit is 42 years young)

He's made up gaskets for the end caps for the rear quards, and has been going through the mountain of parts looking for bits and bobs. Even after being painted, there is still the odd bit of sand coming out of the body from when it was sand blasted.

I think the biggest hurdle (as with any newly Painted car) is that many of the factory plated parts are now not as nice as the rest of the body. Not being one to do things half arsed, I'd say there's gonna be a fair bit of coin invested in having stuff replated.

  11. I reccommend NZhondas. I went there to ask a dumbass question about the mrs' car. Not only did they answer it, but they actually diagnosed what the real cause of the problem was in the same thread. When I couldn't find which part was the fualty bit, (Fucking mickey mounse back to front piles of shit  ) A local guy said come over and I'll show. I did and he went it's that bit there. Problem sorted.

  12. Here are a few happy snaps of one of the cars my old boy is building atm.

He's been putting the mad hours into it lately, and yesterday morning he dragged me out of bed at 8am to help him load it onto the trailer to take it down to a spray booth/bake over to get the final coat applied.

    Loaded up on the trailer;

It's being picked up today. It's a real shame that the sun isn't out. In bright sunlight, the pearl really jumps out at you.

So very soon the reassembly will begin. He as already fully rebuilt the chrysler 383 for it. Overbored, balanced, and a wee bit of a cam. As well as a no longer availble edelbrock fourbarrel manifold. (it was a factory 4bbl car, but these manifolds are much better. Should get along quite nicely one would think.
