    Redline Diff Oils

Right so I'm putting a borg waner falcon LSD axle into my capri. Need some oil. bought some Redline Superlightweight Shockproof (haven't opened or put it in yet) but now I'm worried I might have bought the wrong stuff. The guys at BNT didn't seem to know much about the new shockproof range. From the redline range I could have chosen: Redline 75/90 gear oil superlight weight shockproof light weight shockproof heavyweight shockproof and from what I could gather it seemed that it was efficiency vs protection in that order with the standard 75/90 being the normal choice for street use for the most efficiency / power loss. But the shockproof range being better for loading and abuse. So I chose the superlight weight shockproof stuff for my v8 capri cos it's just a streeter but I give it the boot now and then. overkill? shoulda got the normal stuff maybe..? Anyone know??

    JR's V8 Capri

yeah man I want to know how you did the centre caps on your wheels? I never got around to doing mine!
  3. Runamuck - I was talking to Wayne eh
  4. you can certify your car to be as low as your want. The question I posed was how far you can lower your car without certifying. The answer is to 100mm from the lowest structural point of the car, which doesn't include the sump, exhaust or spoilers.
  5. you will do a carb turbo setup.. and after 12 months of mucking around trying to get it nice you'll give up and fuel inject it. much easier to fuel inject it first, then turbo it. carb turbo setups are a compromise at best, either smooth and reliable but not very powerful, or full on power with no drive-ability. do a profile search for nismo_capri and pm him. He sells cheap TBi injection kits for pintos which would be easy to turbo.
  6. well, turns out from the certifier whose been in discussions with wellington that the sump is NOT a structural point of the vehicle. Regardless of the fact that if you hit something you're engine is screwed is beside the point that because if you are stationary your car can be crushed from around this point independently which negates the sump to not being part of the vehicle structure, exhaust + body kits etc are definitely not.
  7. fitting / cutting bump stops isn't a problem. I just talked to the certifier and even he's not 100% sure on this.. some cars have ridiculously low sumps, like lotus elise etc.

    JR's V8 Capri

whoa dude.. that's mean.. real mean.. A V8 in a capri is bloody quick without turbos! that's gonna be killer. We should def cruise sometime it would look mean with twin black v8 capris but I'll have to put that blower on now just to keep up with you.
  9. Hey boes, Does anyone know if a sump is considered a structural point of the vehicle in regards to the 100mm ground clearance laws? chur boes
  10. Definitely makes a significant difference. People who put massive shiny 'look at me' front-mounts in their car usually regret it if they care about performance. (which most don't) Same as going ridiculously big on the exhaust.
  11. Give my mate Darren a call at Mad Customs 027 348 9217 They do custom bodywork, fabricate new panels, custom flares, panel & paint, chop tops etc. They could fit those guards correctly to your car or make you exactly what you need. VERY good work and they are very fair with their prices eh.

    Hillman 1725 engines

Is there a problem running twim stromburgers in a minx since the engine sits upright rather than cantered like in the hunters? Also, do the manifold for the twins from an alloy head motor fit a iron head?
  13. Yeah Essex V6.. but agree with Ky.. its not a great engine tbh. Same amount of work to put a v8 in as a v6 really.. so I would go 289 unit which is a great motor.
  14. Do NOT do this. I nearly killed myself doing this. It's a stupid thing to do.
  15. would you sell without paint job etc? I kinda like it the way it is.. don't really like fancy paint jobs etc rat ftw
  16. Thats a horny ute Zed how much do you want for it?

    Best LSD diff oil

would Redline be the choice over Penrite competition diff oil then? I guess I'll hunt for a christchurch distributor for redline and ask them
  18. yeah I'll bring it, the NZV8 runs meet up at 8:30 and cruise at 9 and that's usually a good time for me eh. But you guys do what suits don't work around me eh I'm a busy sonofabitch these days.
  19. 7:30.. bit early for me I'm not even outta the office by then
  20. yeah turns out that ford v6's and V8's were a factory option for Hillmans for a time

    Best LSD diff oil

I don't mind buying the good stuff. Piece of mind knowing I didn't cheap out on the oil when I've spent enough getting the gears shot-peened etc. But even redline has heaps of different types eh. What sort to go with? Heavy shock proof 75/90? Do I need to use Limited Slip Friction Modifier ?
  23. I take the capri on the NZV8 cruises on the last friday of each month. Good excuse to get the car out eh. Would be keen for something similar with OS. Mayb the first fri of each month we should meet up in a car park somewhere, talk shit about cars and go for a cruise? Alternatively for people like DPNS who's cars are off the road we could do some saturday afternoon beers thing regularly through the summer?
