  1. Welds aren’t pretty but they are proper stuck. Gave them a quick grind and zinc sprayed. Stoked! again, one side had a bit of a gap from the side to the tub and was gay to weld but got there eventually.. was more important the other 3 edges lined up honestly
  2. I put in the new master cylinder, swapped the new accelerator pumps out for the old ones, was a big bog when stood on.worked a treat. Swapped drivers glass for a spare I was given less the scratches. Sealed the quarter windows into their surrounds again. Random pic of how it is. Painting in the garage means cleaning outside. falcon diff for escort and H165 for 1200.

  4. Beside LH bonnet hinge. Yeah I welded that knick up after Inner and outer here too.
  5. Welded the tubs and zinc sprayed. First one went well, second was a bit gappy and had some blowouts but cleaned up ok.Will be smeared in sealer when finished so.. Left the ends Incase I need some movement for final fit. The escort heater bubbles always rust out. Mine was decent but it was certainly going to reappear if not chopped out fully. I made some patches years back and glued them in today. Hit it with the sand blaster first, the rust started again since I had bare metalled areas before storage. That lip usually pokes out an inch the whole way but I’ve pushed it down for clearance of engine and to drain better. It can chill like this until I start mounting stuff and then can be trimmed more or brought back up or whatever. i started on another patch but left the rust killer and copper spray drying, filled some screw holes & pinholes and called it a day.
  6. the other day I slotted the mount holes and hung this in
  7. Spent a few hours yesterday getting the tubs mocked up.
  8. The hubs are S13 4 stud. The s13 disc (254mm) and calipers (single pot) are decent but they HP vs size bracket I’m aiming to be In Requires 2pots and 280mm vented. would be perfect for an NA setup.
  9. Been rinsed by work lately so just chillin. needed to do something so I looked into the passenger wheel arch Years old shit patch blew through while welding so I stopped. Present day I chopped it out and took it all out, wire wheeled and rust killed. It was going so well I failed to take a pic when finished, realised as I was priming.. might have secured a matching standard CA bottom end. got flywheel ground.
  10. Few holes filled or re-repaired. I spent a while on the tubs and have had to change my plan.. I wanted nice radius’s on edges but that was going to cost me about 3.5inch so I went with function over form and will have square edges. Ran out of panel steel so once I get a new sheet I’ll finish them up. deleting exhaust hanger mounts behind wheel arch Did this x2 they are either side of handbrake. I think there was something to do with the flip seats on the tunnel? Been a while since I cut whatever it was out. Drivers floor is the worst of the pan, getting a bit thin! The underseal had worked fucking well cant tell but there’s decent ridges that needed recreated i also Brought a brand new set of Z flex Tein adjustables for S13 through work, they cost more than other brands but I like the fact they can be fullly serviced. Some of these lesser name brands are a real mission to find bushes and things when they wear out. Hakon was the next in line but aftersale support was a ? didnt hurt that my end goal is a green and gold colour scheme. about the darest single purchase I’ve ever made for parts and it was still at staff cost.. tight fo’ life
  11. I know I know, but I want to run wide 14s and the cool brakes won’t clear. don put me onto the RB25 powered 280 & 2pots and I’m pursuing.. heres an upright CA for interests sake
  12. Well the brake dream didn’t pan out. Couldn’t bleed up a decent pedal, tried lots. chewed off the flare on brake pipe, scored another one, still shit, tried to bleed the master and snapped off the bleed. Broke the easyout in it also. found a spare master so though I’d swap out but the tube nuts on the car are wasted and it was going to Be a major. Bled them again and didn’t improve. Bled the back brakes and the pedal came back, but disappeared again when going back to the front. said fuck it drove out the next morning to the track day, had a few canes and loved it! was still able to send it, just using whatever pedal I had and gears. Got a new master cylinder to put In sometime.
  13. big thanks to nickm, went to collect the bits I was after and he loaded me up with lots of other crap too! more space in his shop, less in mine but I’m stoked. Unfortunately the cert bible says I should have 280mm vented discs and twinpot calipers so these won’t be useful but I’ll pass them on and look for some skyline ones.
  14. Tacked in some patches deleting factory exhaust mounts and stuff. laid into the chassis rails with a dent puller to make them nice and crisp again. Some bits I cut out and flattened instead.. They weren’t horrendous but I want them straight. And I can pump rust kill into the rails
  15. I brought some cool suspension and brakey bits from nickm, will disclose when I have them and sort through.. also got timken rear wheel bearings, metallic pads, caliper kits, UJ and some sundry items from work. I’ve been a bit off this week and have had to shit 350% more than normal so haven’t layed into it but have done a little more on the rear tubs
  16. What have I done recently.... Fuck all! my mate scored a Ute so we stripped it out and as Payment for doing it and storing it at my place he gave me the diff. It’s an H165 which is a bit bigger and gruntier than the standard H145 in it now. Ill get around to swapping it in at some point. It’s not a straight bolt in affair but achievable in a day with some wee mods. its got a new 2in exhaust all the way through with 1 reasonably new muffler that was kicking around, made a decent difference to performance, has a great rasp to it and dosent hit the ground or body! It’s like, slightly too loud but acceptable. I farmed it out to a mate at pitstop cause I fucking HATE exhausts. i put new carb kits in it. I put it on the dyno and made 64hp at the wheels, I thought it would be closer to 80 but no.. power to weight is a wonderful thing! theres a track day this weekend so I whipped the discs off and got them skimmed, kitted the calipers and painted, new pads. Brakes were getting very manual. i finally got that proper wheel alignment done, booked at another local shop and they rang to say nay, and sent me to Tony’s tire service on Blenheim Rd. They have some fancy Hunter machine that can cope with low old cars with small profile tyres. It’s great now! Haven’t driven it much since, it was pissing down when I picked it up so couldn’t cane it properly.
  17. I’ll definitely farm out the shortening/splining etc but very handy to know!
  18. Popped a datsun wheel under it for a laugh. Upside-down misery
  19. I got this diff from Dan for less than labeled after deciding the hilux diff was too heavy, the caliper conversion situation, handbrake creation and it wasn’t lsd. this is! easily available, inboard handbrake and disc brake already. The GT2871r I had was pronounced dead due to cost of repair. Then a mate popped up with this, got it for a song and will be a nice wee upgrade whizzer. Heres another escort with CA. The angled engine bugs me, it’s factory but I can’t handle it so I’m going to upright mine. I’ll have to change mounts anyway, tweak the shifter to suit. I have a brand new genuine oil pump as well. If she blows up we’ll try again. its well documented these days how to do this head drain mod so will do that. Today I sorted out lots of nuts/bolts/screws and put them into an organiser case for the first time in my life, reorganised the boxes, tore the front and rear ends out, front off, bumper off ready for the spit this week. Had a scotch with the dog while sitting in the back seat. She was more interested in the reflections
  20. Absolutely CA18DET still. I’ve been collecting bits and pieces as they come up, check trademe favourites every day.
  21. Well I’m fucked if I can find the original discussion thread, if anyone can that would be sick but I’ve been looking for way longer than I should have.
  22. The time has come! You only need to scroll up to see how dormant it’s been..got it trailered up in the weekend, time has taken its toll with rat piss and shit and surface rust in thin areas but she’s still great! after clearing it out and cleaning it, tucked it into garage. Then I cut the tubs out of this drum I’ve had in waiting. unfortunately the rotisserie is still down south so that halts progress, probably try score some steel and make another one.
  23. I ain’t dead. My flatmate gave it a quick flat and buff while I was in ozzy so it looks a lot better now! Also shortened struts all painted and installed with mk1 golf shocks, cleaned up and under sealed the inner guards before that. ended up taking 2 coils off the Dobi springs to get it to where it needed to be. The ride is great, haven’t bottomed out or come close to it. i put the new 1/4 window rubbers in, they are great. Only thing was that they don’t stay open when hooning along, the rubbers too..rubbery and they spring closed. I could leave them open when it’s parked up to see if it helps mould. I drove to wanaka and back to be a wedding car with a couple of other 1200s. got a wheel alignment the morning I went down but they weren’t happy with it and didn’t charge me..blamed the steering box. (Which is fine and I’m sure has adjustment on the very centre of the top but oh well) Resulted in a pretty shit, bump steery, overcorrecty journey in the wind which was a shame, love that inland road. I’ll take it somewhere else. The trip back was better and with the radar detector on we had some good fangs some revolutions were pulled. Had shit gas in it for the journey but back to good stuff now. this weekend I got a mate at pitstop to chuck a full 2” free flow flanged at the headers with single basic sporty muff box I had laying around that was pretty new. I don’t usually farm out stuff I can do but I fucking rage over exhausts and he did a great job, cheap and quick. Now tucked up nice and tight, has a great rasp and crackle to it and goes better!
  24. Haven’t done much because I’ve been helping a mate with his Ute. however I have had the struts shortened by nick_m, made a new brake hard line and got new front Rubber hoses. Haven’t seen struts because I’m in a foreign country but look forward to sewing it all back together with some new paint and going for a fang. No pics so See you at nats
  25. Scott luxon donated some parts cause he’s a super GC. Rapt to have new ignition switch which means steering lock and actual key again! the quarter window rubbers are always quite torn up or hard so these freshies will be a dream!
