  1. just a update everything is now a GOGO put a new tensioner pulley on and now its all sweet, also put on the cam cover just incase it ever did decide to come off it would get hit back on hehe now for brakes, exhaust, and fix the electical problems and she should be on the road haha maybe in a year
  2. interesting read. How do u tell if the cam timing is advance / out? Lets say u have it perfectly lined up with its arrow / hole what way will advance it? Sounds stupid huh but alot of people get confused like myself
  3. ahh hours lost on simple things i know how ya feel im not even sure if my timing is bang on but i bet its pretty close aslong as the car pulls hard and can poor smoke off them tyres should be sweet ur engine might be modded more then mine so i dunno about ur timing hell i dont even know what mods have been done to mine lol apart from a lumpy cam aftermarket flattops, larger oil garlerys thats all i know sucks buying engines off other people heh head looks abit different to normal ones too so maybe work done to that rofl i was just thinking if u move the arrow on the cam alittle bit past the hole then tighten the cambelt is should move onto the hole and be bang on was just thinking about. u tryed that?
  4. not sure aye i had the same problem everytime i tighten the cambelt it would move the cam away from its timing marks, but when i started the engine went first pop sounded/idle alright im sure RT will beable to help ya goodluck bro
  5. yeah ill just take one off another pinto i got sitting down the road just gotta go pick it up hehe thanks RT for all ur help ur been awesome man ill let ya know how i get along once the new tensioner pulley is on
  6. yes thats what i mean im now 100% sure its that now to put a second hand one on or try buy a brand new one?
  7. Hey RT i think i found the problem. The tension idle bearing? I think thats what its called. Anyways its meant to spin and control where the cambelt goes i think. The bearing in it is worn as it doesnt even turn. So the cambelt just rubs on it and goes all over the place on the pulleys I took it off can turn it by hand but it doesnt move freely and it makes scraping noise. im pretty sure this is causing all my problems what ya think ?
  8. well that was a waste of time got it all put back together starts fine but the same thing happens as last time that made me think it was the cambelt the cambelt slips off the dizzy pulley and moves forward/backwards so like it goes half off then back on its beyond me and doesnt matter what the tension setting is it still does it now this has just pissed me off. AND i dont want it anymore lol any ideas on what can cause this?
  9. Yup!! #1 and #4 are at the top that was the first thing i checked took sparkplugs out and put my finger in and already lined up the cam just the dizzy now but i barely move that so might be ok how it is! hope tomorrow is nice and sunny and everything goes to plan alittle offtopic i should make another thread. but may aswell ask in here lol Rear brakes on a serria will they bolt straight upto the escort diff? got a serria stationwagon that im going to strip for the engine/5speed and im hoping the rear brakes will fit the escort as they are bigger. Anyone know ? cheers guys
  10. Yeah barely even touched the crank only move a tiny bit when i unbolted the pully bolt but not enough to move the pistons. So yeah im sure its right. Would suck if it wasnt and broke some vavles but oh well only way to learn aye? No good getting other people to do ur engine work because u will never learn. Ive always got another 3 pinto's here but not modded like this one but yeah i think ur right about if its way out it wont start or will have trouble starting anyways cheers for ur input every little bit helps
  11. Alright, finally had some free time been working nightshift to 4am in the morning not fun anyways. Got the pulley off was pretty easy with the crowbar like 30 seconds hehe I put the new cambelt on. Im hoping its on correctly set pistons 1 & 4 at the top well the crank never move so they were already there so didnt really have to touch that. redid the cam timing lined it all up with its marks still gotta do the dizzy. ran outta time today so will do that tomorrow and check everything again to be sure!! Just one thing im wondering what sort of damage will be caused if my timing is really fucked? will i beable to tell as soon as i fire her up? cheers
  12. Yeah i was abit worried forcing it off so i thought i better ask here first thanks again RT
  13. ok got the bolt out of the pulley but cant get the pulley off do i need a pulley key or something to get it off?
  14. haha alright thanks RT you've been great help. I guess ill do it on the weekend when im not working. Ill let ya know how i get on thanks man
  15. alright, what about "if" ive already cut off the old cambelt any other ways to hold the crank while u remove the pulley ? thanks
  16. hahahaha ok now we getting somewhere so whats the easiest way of taking it off? cheers man
  17. another question on the crank pully where the alternator belt goes behind it is another pully or spacer not sure what its called then its the crank pully where the belt goes. OK my problem is u only have a very very very small gap to get the belt in as theres like bracket or protective barrier thingly around where the belt goes. sorry i dont know the name hopefully someone will know what im talking about. I just cant get the belt thru that small gap and i dont really wanta force and cause damage to the belt. So any tips? or anything i should take off down there to make my job easier? If ya dont know what im talking about ill take a pic of it cheers
  18. alright thanks RT was hoping u would reply cheers man
  19. Ok u pinto heads i need to change the cambelt what im wondering is do i have to take off the crack pulley just to get the belt off? as theres not much room down there. also whats the easiest way to take it off without losing the timing if possiable. any help/tips would be great Only reason im changing belts is the one thats on there is crap it like melts and moves on on the pulleys and ive tryed heaps of tension settings but same thing. Anyways the belt is stuffed and i need this one on and working probably so i can start doing the rest of the car so i can get it on the road. cheers

    Lumpy Cam And Carby

If u just reco the motor u should have done the cam at the same time now it will cost even more money. Anyways yes u can go too lumpy and the car will be a pig to drive, u probably would want a mild or fast road cam u should be alright. for carby i would go for either the twinthroat 32/36 off a 2L pinto engine or the twinthroat 40/40 off a v6 capri engine or if u want better go for twin sideys webber or dellortos prices really depends on what u want
  23. dont forget upgrading the brakes
  24. yeah its the sports cluster thing. I dunno aye ive tryed the wires all different ways aye still no work could be faulty guages or something might just buy some aftermarket ones that way ill get instructions on how to set them up properly
