  1. In SHGWAG's defence, from BRANZ

"For designers to show compliance using the schedule method of

NZS 4218: 2004 Energy efficiency – Small building envelope,
they are now required to use double glazing in all the climate zones of
    New Zealand.
Because the Building Code is a performance-based rather than a
prescriptive code, the use of double glazing cannot be made a mandatory
requirement, but its use is recommended as the most cost effective solution
to reduce heat loss through windows and the likelihood of condensation
    forming on the glass.
Designers choosing not to use double glazing will need to prove that
the single glazing complies with the Building Code through the calculation
method or the modelling method of NZS 4218, or by using the BPI
    method."
  2. Thermally, double glazing doesn't do that much tbh, we're talking an R value increase from 0.15 to 0.26. Real gains are had through argon filled/low E and thermally broken suites etc but even then, better spending the $$$ on better wall/roof/floor insul imo.

  3. No it isn't shgwag. As long as the building performs to H1 you can use single glazing, depends on the method you you to achieve requirements, aka calculation, schedule etc

    Common and erroneous belief.

Edit: sorry sound like a jerk there dogg

  4. Get some old fagg at a dulux shop to mix you up some sweet lacquer using the facotry paint code. Assume you have a compressor so buy a gravity fed gun, mix in some turps/thinners, rough old paint up, clean with grease remover and boost in on nice and even until you use all the paint up. No need to be all fancy about it.

Is how I did it back in the day and ended up alright once I cut it back.

  5. Yeah my interest in container housing, at least in NZ has been destroyed - uness you do a lot of it yourself and get the container cheap, I reckon building to the minimum of 3604 aka timber frame everything would be cheaper and easier - though you can't build it yourself anymore afaik with licensing.

Anyway, I digress, stoked to see this being done and my congratulations on a cool project.

  6. Yeah, gravity loads are easy to deal with. It's those pesky lateral sluzzas that go fuck everything up. Also, uplift from wind is like a sorta reverse gravity load and actually one of the cuntiest things we have to design for/make boring old robot engineers sort out for us.

Edit: I know you do some engineering stz p8veet so sure you know all this jazz jackrabbitty shit

  7. Also, I did a project this year using containers for student housing. Got destroyed by some french cunt architect who had happened to do his masters on modular housing. Basically - cut any sizeable amount of steel out renders the things useless and requires structural members to be welded in thus negating cost benefit unless you can do it yourself. I hope you prove this arrogant bitch wrong so I can go shove a white flag down his cowardly french throat and remind him he is basically indebted to humanity.

  8. If you flick me some higher quality plans and eles, I'm happy to do some saucy renders of different colours and trims for ya. Take off all the notes etc if you're not keen on the sharing aspect - I obviously understand the financial aspect of plans. Some of those colourways are questionable imo - I like the idea of natural timber - looks spicy as shiz and is underused in NZ imo.

  9. Was some dude floating about a couply years ago with a rare-ish factory 4wd mirage. Chucked evo engine and running gear in it. Had shitty as steelies and fucked up white paint, looked like a typical mirage of that era basically, but probably would demo 99% of what's on the roads. Love shit like that.

  10. Dunno man. That wagon does a 4.8s 0-100, quicker than a BA depending on source. And very confident of it dispatching of a Falcon around a track with equal drivers, surely? Also, aftermarket parts situation must favour the 4G63, though that's really an added benefit/wallet destroyer.

Don't get me wrong, I like the XR6t too, and such different cars it's hard to compare anyway.
