  1. ^ yeah it did but the whole thing was gunmetal so they didnt show up as well. think that thing's going on the market soon

cant believe you thought shipping containers have windows from factory russel, what a goose

yeah builder says he's getting a steady stream of weirdos coming for a look-see now. yus, not me! i'd be all 'what are you doing on my property'

Markku, pretty keen to hear more about this modding of old fire boxes..

maybe i should hold off this winter and use a candle instead, buy a bit more time to make sure i dont end up with something dumb just cos of the silly old rules

Just had a look on WCC website - freestanding fire consent is like $200, so might be worth just leaving it for now if you're not sure and sussing it down the track.

Here's a list of "approved" fires with regard to environmental standards, includes those used for water heating.

    http://www.mfe.govt.nz/laws/standards/woodburners/authorised-woodburners.html

And a breakdown of the standard itself including thermal efficiency requirements

    http://www.mfe.govt.nz/laws/standards/woodburners/ta-woodburners.html

I expect meeting the national standards for woodburners may be your issue if creating something yourself aye.

/get CCC and just chuck something in there

    /fuck insurance

  2. I think my mate from uni went and checked this out last week. His name is Duncan.

Assume there aren't many/any other container houses going up in Welly anyway, he mentioned happy valley but I A; don't know where that is and B: don't know where you are building so could not hundy confirm.

  3. Yeah will be sweet as shit in summer.

Fire issue a kernt due to council needing consent for wood burners? Spose they will need specifics as well so retro-fit = problematic.

As a building industry profesh I say just install one and don't even tell them.

  4. Also, freely admitting that I have not really read what others have said in full detail...

I don't know your district plan - you may be sweet to build a certain sized whatever with no issues - the soakholes were an indicator to me, however, that this is not the case!

  5. Forget producer statements.

The reason I mentioned anything is because councils will require a list of LBPs (designer (shed company, engineer (shed company), builder (???), plumber, drainlayer etc etc before (often on the actual application form) they even bother allowing you to book inspections, and those LBPs generally produce some form of producer statement prior to CCC as evidence of their work being to a certain standard. The example I am thinking of here is whomever is performing the building work and whether they are LBPs themselves.

If the building work isn't done by a LBP, then you may have issues booking inspections/getting shit done. If I'm barking up the wrong tree then I'm glad!

  6. Question cletus - on what grounds do you consider a low car unsafe? Presumably there are reports, studies etc? Or is it simply driving it on our shitty ass roads?

I am curious as to the actual real-world repercussions of having a super low car, as in, is there sufficient recorded evidence where a number off accidents are attributable in some form to the suspension of a car being unsuitable.

I get this uneasy feeling of a blanket rule which as you rightly stated is garbage.

If it comes across as me having a go, I just wanna say I'm definitely not, I've just always been curious.

  7. height isnt the be all and end all...... He clearly states 20mm lower is on bumps and therefore would be a no go for cert.

The reason I said it, which in the context of this thread is quite obvious tbh, is that he is pursuing a certain style of which lowness is a huge part. He's made mention of shakotan before and of the fact he wants to go low. Couple that with the images he posted of guard gap I could fit my sizeable head (IRL not possible don't hold me to that) in made me think he was trolling a nigga, statement regarding legalities and bumps inclusive of trolling.

Boost some pics up. Been following this build silently with high hopes.

Will use all the great information delivered in this thread by wildly unqualified persons to ensure the job goes smoothly. JUST FORKLIFT IT BOL

I'm not a QS but you shouldn't be insulting Mike's profession - those in glasshouses and all ;)

Anywho - trying to be helpful to Manu, so he doesnt have a panic and think he needs double glazing.

Still keen to know what awning roof is made from, clear or shaded?
