  1. Hey,

I'm now the owner of a fairly beat up KP60 Starlet, to use as a daily runabout....

Thing is, to get a WOF it needs a bunch of new tyres, and I don;t want to go to overboard on it because it only cost me $100....

Now, I just want to know what other cars share the same stud pattern as the KP60, 114.3 I'm pretty sure it is? That way I can call all the cars that are being wrecked in the buy sell exchange and see if any of them have warrantable tyres!

    Cheers

    Richard

  2. Yeah I second the person who said '83 is still old school :P

But for me well, where do I start!

    Ferrari 250GTO SWB....

Porsche 911 Carrera RS 2.7 (first of the Carreras)

    Lotus Cortina Mk1

    KPGC10 Skyline GTR

    Mazda Cosmo 110S

    Alfa Romeo Montreal

    Alfa Romeo 105 GTAm 2000

The list could go on and on and on......

Also about those 2000GTs, on one of my High Performance Imports DVD's theres a Jap workshop that has a 2000GT running a 2JZ turbo in it..... with auto trans!

  3. Hey, I've finally added a bunch of pics to the image gallery.... but not of the Alfa. If you like what you see here, check out the rest of the pics in my gallery.... :D

    normal_R31%20Skyline.jpg

Any feedback or suggestions on what to do next would be welcome.... (well.... after the Glanza, the VR4 and the Corona I have been asked to do by friends! :) )

  4. The stud pattern on the wheels is a 4x100.... but the holes have been made 2mm larger, to allow for some movement in the bolts.

I got supplied with some special bolts, that have a floating cone shaped washer as part of them. The washer clamps up against the rims, as the bolt tightems onto it.

I hope ya can suss it out from my dodgy description but yeah....

  5. NEW RIMS!!!!

    :D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D

Just thought some of you may be interested in these pics...

    http://www.cardomain.com/id/sudman

The pics of the car with the new rims are on page 4, all the other stuff is older pics.

I'll get round to uploading a crapload more onto the oldschool server when I have some time.

Let me know what ya think, feedback is always great to get! I got A LOT of looks cruising up and down Columbo St during SI Champs weekend, and heaps of positive comments which was nice for once!

  6. Haha... I've been around and about the place!

But yeah anyways... wheels have been delayed til Monday now (it's a bastard getting anything in a 4x98 stud pattern!) so next week I'll have some pics.

Also, I'll get some of my drawings of oldschool cars up there...

  7. Hey guys.... I don't often post here much at all, but be sure to look out for some pics of the Alfa around the end of the week, when I get the new rims on... she'll be looking so sweet, now all I have to do is sort out this goddamn electrical problem and all will be well again....

BTW love that 240K/Skyline... very rare car I imagine!

  8. Fiat 131R Abarth...

if thats a real homolagtion model, you're looking at a shitload more than 141hp...

    Not supercharged either...

Used the 2 litre 16v Fiat/Lancia twin cam, injected, putting out 230hp at a weight of 1000kg.

Cool car... there's a replica thats based in Auckland that does the classic events

  9. I realise that it is legal to shorten shocks to fit springs, I have shorter shocks to accomodate my springs. Acually the front setup is technically illegal because the strut has been modified to accept an adjustable Bilstein insert.

Modifying the seats is the no-no however. A WOF officer will pick it up and gove ya shit about it. The spring has to remain in contact with the OE springs seats at top and bottom. Thats mostly what I'm trying to say.

And I have never been a fan of cut or heated springs, simply because they are A) bouncier than a properly made lowering spring and B) they're weaker and sag quickly... I know this from experience.

Since you have an Escort, have you looked at any European brands of spring (if there's any available?) I put a set of Spax lowered coils in my car, they dropped it 50mm MORE than the what Kings claimed was a "superlow" spring.

And coilovers are also not the be all and end all of suspension setups. A set of progressive lowering springs, matched to a set of compression and rebound adjustable shocks will give you all the adjustment of a coilover, just without the height adjustment.

  10. well Mr. Shizzl, your certifier that you spoke to obviously isn't worth a pinch of shit, giving you advice like that. Sure if he certifies it it will be legal, but if you want to get away without a cert, uh uh.... hello pink sticker!

But do what you want.... the general attitude of some people to modifying cars on this forum is pretty fucking scary if ya ask me. Do it once do it properly. But tell it to the WOF man, or the police man, whoever gets you first.

As Alfalfa said, a hardout setup is not necessary... but a well engineered, legal and safe one is!

Have fun bouncing uncontrollably around the place!

  11. you can't fuck around with the spring seat without needing a cert.

LTSA website states that "aftermarket coils must fit into unmodified OE spring seats" and this means no cutting or welding. Trust me, I went through all of this stuff with a fine toothed comb at my last WOF, I had a massive dispute with the WOF Testing station about my suspension mods, some of you may have read my thread on NZPC about it.

I would not do a half assed job on suspension, that is what is keeping your car on the ground.

I don't know much about Escorts, but do they have inserts in the front struts? If so, get hold of some shortened shock inserts, and get springs custom made to suit. Cutting coils off springs is not a good idea, especially when they are compressed. This will fuck up the spring rates totally. As an added note, the LTSA site states that heated and cut springs are not acceptable.

If your going to lower a car, do it properly... it's only going to cause more grief than its worth if ya do a half assed job

  12. Yeah man I can vouch for the stickers looking cool.

The Alfa has one on the back window now, it gave me an instant 7hp at the front wheels. Also increased cornering G forces by 0.75g. Made the sound system 12dB louder. *

But best of all, increased the cars appeal to the opposite sex by 85%, (upping the total appeal to 185% by the way!)

So.... support your favourite old school car site, and buy one... hell buy two.

*the above statistics are by no way accurate, and are also in no way calculated scientifically. Alfaholic wishes to inform members of oldschool.co.nz that his views in no way reflect those of oldschool.co.nz and its administration. Thankyou.

  13. my mate had a 4K in a Starlet that was boostin at 15psi :? reliably with only a decompression plate! It used a blow thru system with a big ass SU carby, and a turbo off a GSR Mitsi! 8) It was a scary as car round Manfeild, as it had standard suspension, and the 12 inch biscuit tyres  pumped up to like 50psi so they wouldn't roll of the rim... showed up the drifter boys tho!!! :D

  14. my mate just bought one of those for 50 bucks up in Palmy. It was an unfinished project, body has been prepped and primered, but the things got no motor and running gear...

Reckon the thing will look sweet on a set of superlights, or those dished rims with the six holes in them, kinda like Tridents... dunno what they're called but heaps of guys down here roll wit them on old school rides

  15. Baaaahaha that 'rona is just like me mates one, same colour and everything... horrible horrible car, I've spent many hours underneath that POS...

But anyway, as for the Corty, damn man who wold put a wing like that on an ol skool car??? And the Jappa VIP style exhausts!!! Betcha its got neons when its dark....

Actually who would do up a bloody Mk III anyway???
