  1. So what did everyone think???

I enjoyed it, got 125 odd pics from the day, taking photo's like a mad bastard!

Wicked to see that Datto 1200 coupe out there giving it some stick, lovin' the sound of twin carbies, he had a wicked style going on, I reckon he would have placed in the top 8 if he hadn't busted an axle in practice....

But otherwise some good efforts by the local boys, especially Stanley in the s15 I reckon, some damn close chasing from him! Loved the two 4AGE turbo Hachi's, and also the black R31 coupe that car is soooooooooooo nice!

The Sud was parked up on the bank next to the stand facing the first corner of the judged are, with some dodgy For Sale signs in/on it, if anyone saw it.

Bandit: yeah I think I remember seeing some BMX's at some point down Papanui rd, it must have been like 11:30ish at night....

  2. The Sud's seen a radar clocked 211km/h @ around 5500rpm running on 195/60 tyres (higher than usual profile so increses rolling diameter and gearing) down Main Drain road near Palmy.

Big thanks to dads mate who is a highway patrolman for the radaring of me!

Otherwise, I've been in my uncles race Alfasud at an indicated 230 odd km/h, and I've been on the back of my dad's old TL1000 Suzuki bike at an indicated 260km/h on a public road (Taipo road, near Rongotea).

  3. Yep and while ya at it, get rid of any emission gears that the engine might have on it to make it run cleaner (oil rebreathing etc etc.)....

Anyways.... a 2T KP60 should be cool! Let us know how she goes!

  4. This is probably borderline Off Topic material... but hey it involves cars!

I was playing GT4 Prologue in a shop today (so what... I can't be assed buying what is pretty much a piss-poor version of the real deal!) and noticed there were several oldschool cars in it!!!

Datsun 240ZG, Datsun Bluebird (1600), Mazda 1500, 1300 coupes, Mitsubishi Colt coupe (Lancer over here!) TA22 Celicas, and no doubt there'll be heaps more in the real thing!

Roll on September or whenever the game is supposed to be due!

  5. Ohhhh Stratos mmmmmmmmmm....... excuse me for a second!

Oh I was watching that Best Motoring "Fuji Fast" DVD.... and it had a section on the KPGC10 GT-R race car..... OMG the sound of that thing was simply amazing.... high revving straight six with triple Webers, S20 wasn't it?

    Definitely dream car material!

  6. errrmmm no last time I checked a KA Laser was near identical to the 323 of the same era.... right up to the KE/KF Lasers and whatever those fould bubble-shaped looking ones are....

Got a call from my mate as well, seems his girlfriend bought him a 67 Anglia van/wagon for his 21st.... lucky bugger!

  7. I'll tell ya what I can from my limited knowledge....

I've seen heaps of MK4 Zephyrs and Zodiacs, NEVER seen a wagon or a ute one though

I've seen a few Granadas around, unlikely they are NZ new cars though, more likely they're privately imported.

Personally I've never seen a Falcon older than an XT, and even those are a rare sight here.

3.3 and 4.1 Corty's were sold here, a mate of the old mans had a 3.3 Mk3 Cortina, and I have seen a few 4.1 Mk4 or 5 ones getting about as well.

HEAPS of Sierra wagons, we even had the Belgian (or German) I think it was built ones right up until about 1991, but most of 'em (the older ones anyway) seem to have shat themselves or rusted away.... couldn't tell ya if they had IRS sorry. There were very few sedans, and also very few XR4x4s, but it's quite easy to find a Sapphire Cosworth, and on nice days you seem to see the Cosworth RS's and stuff coming out for a drive.

I think the last Anglias we got here were around 66, a mate of mine had a 1966 105E with the 1000cc engine, and I do remember an old guy coming up to us at a servo one night and telling us how it was a "late model" Anglia. Lots of fun times had in that car!

Yep... lots of Mk1 and 2 Esky's. I don't think 2l ones came out other than overseas assembled RS2000s and the like.

Fairlanes, yep fairly common. LTD's and Landaus (ergh!) came here as well, but sweet FA of those to be seen.

And rebadged Mazdas... heaps of those. If I am right, the Meteor was like a 323 but with a bigger engine (than the Lasers, also rebadged 323s) wasn't it? The KA onwards Lasers were all versions of 323's, there's masses of those round here. 121's were rebadged as Festiva's here. Telstars, Couriers, Econovans (Econorusts) all also here.

I dunno anything about Transits, except a guy down the road had an absolutely MINT one when I was a kid, reg. JBxxxx so it would have been circa 1979-1980ish.

  8. Just a sidenote, what about cars that were designed and first built say, early 70s, and the shape continiued on until the early 80s???

    Say... like an Alfasud! :D

  9. Man, that's mint as.

Oldschool fronty eh, not too many of them around here :D

Haha so true so true.... but thats only cos the Japs didn't know how to build a good FWD chassis at the time I guess.

Oh yeah kyteler... I think that Toyota might still be assembling Hiace vans or Hilux utes or something in NZ still.

Do you guys in England get Aussie mag Fast Fours??? Becasue the KE20 Corolla wagon thats in there with a boosted 4AGE is pretty damn cool! (NZ car as well :D)

  10. Kyteler for sure.... keep it in the family I reckon, good rule to follow when doing engine conversions, I guess with the exception of maybe V8s and rotaries (rotors in CERTAIN CARS only though.....)

The 3S Beams engine from an Altezza would be a hell of a tight fit into a KP30... but holy crap, imagine the go you'd have there with 150 odd kw in something weighing not much more than Kate Moss.....

  11. Well....

Both were running modified Pinto engines, usual sorta stuff (head work, carby, extractors exhaust etc etc), both naturally aspirated... the silver one [1HOTFD] was a bit more tweaked than the blue one I think,

[1HOTFD] ended up winning best Ford on the day as well if I remember correctly.

  12. Yeah kyteler that info is fairly spot on - also the same PCD as used by earlier RWD 4 stud Alfas like the 105 GTV's, Guilia's etc etc.

Look out for Audi rims especially - my uncle came across a very nice set of Ronal 15" rims off an Audi that he fitted to his Alfa 105 GTV2000 for a while.... and they were dirt cheap!

  13. Well.... as I;m studying now things have come to a bit of a standstill on the Sud, it was started 4 years ago now... and although it might look fairly complete, it sort if is, but its an ongoing thing!

So.... 4 years ago, I buy the old Alfasud. It was rusty, but still road legal, and $500 later I drive away in it. (the chick initially wanted 3k for it :D)

Dad stacks it on the way home, hitting a big pallet that had fallen off a truck. Luckily we managed to track down the truck, and score insurance payout of THEM - $1800 bucks to fix the strut, bearing, rim etc etc but it ended up costing me 60 bucks to fix it, thanks to lots of industry hookups and doing the work myself!

Get it home, start stripping it down the next weekend, realised the rust problem was worse than I thought (think floors, entire rear guards, base of A pillars etc etc) so end up stripping the WHOLE car, do all the usual rust repairs (thanks to another car I bought that had good panels - but it was a less rare model, and a 4 door - so thats why I didn't do that one up!)

All repaired, we drop it to a panelbeater mate, who resprays it in Alfa 156 Argento, a brighter silver than the standard one.

Drove it round for a bit like that, until I busted engine number one. So I buy a 200 1.5 and chuck it in for the meantime.

Next step was to chuck in a bigger 1.7 out of a late model Alfa 33, set it up with twin 40mm Dellorto carbies, the engine has since had some headwork, extractors, exhaust, filter etc etc.

Chucked in a small sounds setup, that got stolen, chucked in another similar one after that

Adjustable suspension (compression and rebound, not platform suspension) went in, all Spax gear located ex-UK, then I destroyed the front shocks courtesy of a massive pothole. Changed to short stroke Bilstein inserts instead.

Errr..... went from standard to 14" Alfa alloys to 14" ROH alloys, now rolling on 15" TSW's that are about a month old now.

Next step then - I'm saving up for a new amp, a 4 channel one this time, and a set of good 6.5" components, so I can ditch the 6x9s and chuck my 6" 3 ways in the back instead! This will be a long way off though.... bugger this student income.
