Missed this… went to a bmw meet… hmmmph need to bump the thread on the day I feel

Don’t need a lift. Haha! Have done maybe 10+ gearbox swaps in the driveway (hard driven turbo suby life) but hell for the cost of paying someone it sure saves a lot of mucking around
I also recommend Pitstop. I take my bmw there and nothing but fantastic although they are super busy so will need to book in advance

HAHA! I should have done it myself and save a bit of coin but due to some serious time constraints and a deadline looming... i relucatantly paid for the priveledge (and it couldn't have worked out any better) Car Connection on Frazers Road did it for me and i would recommend them, prompt, fast and i thought reasonably priced.
Subies are so common any workshop should be well versed and able to do it.

Basically just headlining, front windscreen, fuel tank and running gear to remove then get the rust cert man to write the list, I’m gunna have a crack at doing as much of this as possible while being supervised haha.(one of the team says I’m a grinder not a welder so this could be interesting)
Few pics of the tear down, some made a bung to maybe hide this…
Where the wiper moter sits under the scuttle-panel, not sure what the theory is here… both sides tho
And under where the guards sit… have been recommended sandblasting the front as that’s where 99% of the rust is… I guess that will be the next big update.- 11

What drove the decison on the engine mount with a large flat panel? Quite an interesting design.

I like the sounds of this build
Ive got 3 EZ30's (03-07 2nd gen / plastic intake) all still in cars im wrecking, from good runner 177k to one with with blown headgaskets. If you need to measure up, see whats needed / take the whole lot on a subframe just let me know (I nomally drop them out with the subframe / suspension still on them). I could let you know when the next one is out.
Also have an EZ36 from a 2010 BR Outback (blown headgaskets) but in my opinion not alot extra hp / talks for the extra cubes.
Hey mate i think i have "saved" a post on FB marketplace... ill flick you a PM somewhere along the way. It would be great if i could come see ya for a sharn and to measure up etc, IF i do go down this road i basically want a whole car (both subframes, motor, box, driveshaft, diff, all hubs, handbrake +cables and loom
<<suddenly realises how easy a low power carbed 13B BP conversion would be>>

not sure enough power, maybe a supercharged carb setup.... ruins the sleeper look tho.... be a bit of a giveaway haha
altho a carb setup sorts a lot of a the loom issues and would sound pretty damn good.

EZ30R with boost aint that reliable in factory form the rods are tiny, mate had one about 250-260kw atw and bent a rod ended up building a built bottom end,
Another mates got a 500kw one might be a bit much for a leone though
Even in N/A form though they sound epic and can get not bad kw atw with an exhaust and headers and a ecu especially in a small car like that, and in n/a reliable as!
Dunno if I could handle a non turbo tho lol.
it wasn’t an option tbh as I assumed it would be too big for the engine bay but I might measure one up anyways
-
That’s very cool. My mate has a big hp ez30 build so it prolly worth further investigation
-
Its also about the width as well, but ill certainly look into it
-
It’s prolly been answered (lazy) but what is the length of the block?

yea i have seen a few EJ swaps particaullry in the 2nd gen, they also had to notch the chassis to fit a quad cam - altho the twin cams just fit, one of the biggest issues for an early model subaru rally cars are the handbrakes on the front wheels, preventing a lot of the handbrake entries into tight corners.
It would be interesting to see exaclty what model it was and how much he notched out of the chassis, and for sure ask about the stud pattern upgrade, eventually ill replace the entire suspection to suit but am interested in how others have approached the 4x140 PCD issue.

Couple pics while I was broken down this afternoon… plus a few photos of the easy to spot rust (the rest is lurking in the shadows for another day)
Going to attempt to start the motor then strip the interior next time I’m there. Will only be able to take out what fits in the boot/back seat of the daily as I will have to store all that off site
Also does anyone have any ideas where to get a decent car cover. The generic ones are trash lol or anyone have anything suitable they are not using?

Where it’s parked has a lot of v8s on the shelf… if I told him I wanted to LS it or supercharge some V8 he would be happy as to assist… as soon as he sniffs a turbo V8 it would be dragged outside with a forklift and used as target practice..
But I do like the idea

Got a lead on a parts car that looks like it might have some bits and pieces. Massive thanks for that piece of spicy intel.
Really need a “plates on hold” parts car….iykyk

Spotted in Nelson tonight while out looking for food
in for rust replacement? @Leone
Sick. That’s the 3rd “high roof” I know of

Yea. I mean in regards to butchering a manifold for injectors etc for an engine that wouldn’t be able to handle 100hp.
Hate to think how small the rods are yet alone how weak everything else is

Efi setup would be completely custom. Although doable. Seem like a massive waste of time and effort vs an engine swap
-
Yea lots of people have put ej’s in front of the later Leone box with an adapter plate. Not sure if many turbo them tho. Could go less power but certainly want something capable of 400. I have been dreaming of this since I had my last 70s 4wd wagon.
