  1. Time for an update , a small one but better than nothing.

I bit the bullet and decided to buy some premade panels from palmside. I figured it would take alot of the stress and time out of the equation and I might actually make some progress.

Super stoked with how they fit with me holding them up against the panels I'll be replacing.

Watch this space for when the old ones are cut out and the new ones installed.

The panels are for the L/H outer A pilar and the L/H section under the windscreen.received_1460432311418433.jpeg

  2. Annnnd I removed the paint with a wire brush and a grinder. After getting a piece of steel wire stuck in my nose.... I decided to use paint stripper to as it could get in all the tight areas.

Funny thing , when I went inside holding my nose with a rag , as I didnt know how bad I was bleeding. My wife instead of asking "are you ok" , said , what have you done now? Bloody woman. Haha

  3. an update without pics, may take some tommorow.

Today my engineer friend and I welded up the 250's frame . He did a mint job and Im super happy with it.

He welded in "plugs" inside the frame itself so the frame is stronger than its ever been.

He also welded in 3mm plates at the bottom of the frame as sacrificial plates so they will wear instead of the repaired area of the frame.

Like I said , Im super happy with the result !

Next on the list to do is sort out the rusted in swing arm bolt , I think Im going to have to gas axe it out as its super rusted in and the allan key head is fucked.

Then after that , paint strip the frame and prime and repaint.

  4. In Palmerston North, National gas filled my co2 bottle and also fitted the correct adapters to make it ready to change from argon to co2.

You may or may not have a national gas where you are as they are a franchise i believe.

On my welder it is just one set of rollers and you just flip them over to get the 0.6 groove. Took me years to notice.

Thanks I had a look at that , one side is .8 and the other .9

Thanks man but I'll just suck it up and buy one.  At the end of the day it's a one off cost but i was shocked at how expendy they were. The ones from allie express may be worth a shot haha

  6. Went and brought a roll of .6 wire to use instead of .8 as you lads recommended. Got it for $49 instead of $69 @toolshed fathers day sale.

Got home and realised i dont have any .6 contact tips and I also have to change the roller In the welder itself.

Think to myself , oh yeah that will be about 50 bucks... look online and fuck me dead its $180bucks !

    Fuck sake.

    Rant over

Edit : just found them on alli express for $10 hahaha.

    You what now?

Sorry, but I thought that the settings on the welder door were what u were ment to weld at for some reason and had been stubbornly and stupidly been trying to nut it out.

I'll keep tinkering away and see what happens

  8. Thanks bling , I want to learn to weld all types/thickness but mainly pannel steel .  Its mainly spending time on the welder seeing how different thickness of metal weld and getting the penetration correct.

I finished a little project in weekend involving a creeper which needed its wheels reattached. I cut the box section of the creeper and welded a nut inside the box section , then welded it all back togeather. Went well and I'm happy with it so I'm getting there.

  9. That lot of steel welded togeather is 1.0mm and I think there is some pannel steel .6 aswell.

I kinda set myself up as I was welding away happy as Larry, then moved onto another piece and it would blow though. The difference between .6 and 1.0mm

I'm trying run nice beads so I can get used to the weld and watching the bead and pool. Getting used to the sound of when it's going to blow through and how fast to move the torch/angle.

I'm getting better each time I practice so I'm happy bout that.

    Thanks for your help friends
