  1. deck lid stand offs a must. A whole 48 hp to keep cool..... in a NZ winter. (They will come back off at some stage) I thought they would have been ok.
  2. Had a few mock ups and trial runs fitting everything. spray painted some black accents... peeled the old rubber off the running boards and painted them black and used skateboard grip tape..
  3. a good mate @moparmuppet threw me a life line and helped me bead roll a real bad bit. It actually worked out really sweet. Thanks to project Binky and the C.A.D work (cardboard assisted design)
  4. the rust really took hold behind where the running boards are bolted on.. Should have checked it out 15 years ago.. there were some sub standard patches that someone put on over the rust behind the front wheels... After that went threw the water was splashed from the road down the heater rails. Never had a mention made at WOF time.
  5. had a wee measure up.. try to get everything dead level based on calculations. In the end dropped the back a couple of splines and had the front coils re set.... best guess work really.
  6. this was the first go at it... It got better from here & so did the welding .
  7. most shaping was me bashing stuff over my vice...
  8. pulled the whole front end out... clean it all up and re bush it... springs off for a 75mm lower reset..
  9. Thread to give me curry about my yellow dub is now open. https://oldschool.co.nz/index.php?/topic/58875-scooters-1302-yellow-dub/
  10. It's worth a mention that most of this rust is normal on dubs. the correct way to really fix this is to pull the body off the pan... But a young family and hanmer in the pipe and little shed room.. Doing a 10/10 job was really not going to fly. If I can tie it over for 5 or 10 years then thats ideal.. Threw the course of this. I have ended up welding the pan to the body in a few places.. This is not great. But I really do not have the time/skills/tools to make a proper go of it.
  11. On and out with the rust. Big thanks to @Valiant who talked me threw the process. I'v never done rust...
  12. before we go too deep.. here is a clean late model with the rims I have. mine is gonna be nothing like this one... It's too far gone.
  13. Decided to have a look pull some wheels and gaurds... running boards... make sure everything was gravey.. shit kind of when south. dead heater rails...
  14. The build all kind of came about because I wanted to jam some wheels on... I expect there will be no other wheels like this in NZ on the ultra crap 4x130 stud. I bought them off trade me and paid a dollar or 2 for the privilege
  15. Discussion thread now open. If you dere. Before I start. There will be some shit photos. Taken 1/2 in the dark with my old S3 sorry. This is also not a serious car build. This car has been my dads for 15+ years. Picked it up wedged into some gorse bushes near Cable Bay Nelson. I think he paid $750. Dads had dubs his whole life I think in 2004 he got rid of the first car he ever owned (67 bug) So suffice to say i'm not going to be without them for some years yet. I think about 15 years ago we rubbed it back and painted it a very loud yellow.. I am told the colour was my choice (wish I chose better) but that was a fair few moons ago I would have been early teens. So the first pic is likely 9 years ago... my grandad my wife and the yellow dub. & me ! tagging interested partys now. cheers guys. @Willdat? @yoeddynz @moparmuppet
  16. thanks Clint, I am very lucky these old mags were made for porsche 914.. but fits vw ball wheel bolt spot on. I however need to change to longer wheel bolts. Thanks
  17. Thanks mate. We are talking vw bug 1302s . I just went to the shed and checked about 5.5 turns in the alloys till tight. meh .. just to piss me off .
  18. @CUL8R thanks mate. There is no flange on the rotor in my case pain in the ass to line up. but...... the rims have counter sunk steel insirts that fit the wheel lug spot on. That centers it.
