  1. This cropped up on my facebook feed and I'm not overly sure how I feel about it.

David Brown Automotive in the UK are running a limited production run (100) of what they call "Bespoke" minis.

"The MINI Remastered is hand built, offers a bespoke chassis, body and interior, and, according to UK motoring site Auto Express, takes more than 1000 hours to produce.  It is the same size as the classic Mini with each panel built to mirror it and looks like it’s straight out the original Italian Job, albeit with a discrete modern touches including a 7-inch touchscreen and infotainment system with Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, remote central locking and keyless stop/start."

I dont really want to be a grinch, but it looks to me like they've just run down the corner to mini spares and bought a joblot of bodies and panels then dropped in some bracing (hardly "bespoke").  And have they really built a full chassis to sit the body panels on?  And is that an A series they are dropping in? WTF?  Sure, theyve dropped a Stage 2 or 3 kit on it but surely a small Nipponese turbine 5 speed would have been better.

Still, it is a stunning job.  The deseaming has been done so well I didnt even see it first and the interior is pretty lush, but no different to hundreds of minis being worked on in garages around the world where the owners want to go over the top.

Oh, and the David Brown Website looks liek it was written by someone with several marketing degrees who was trying to cram 5 years of study into a single brochure ("...Automotive DNA..." etc etc)

Price is from 50K GBP up to 70k GBP depending on options.

  2. 14 minutes ago, Steelies said:

met at karori bottle store near fire station, hooned down through karori tunnel for a bevvy on the viaduct. hooned for a bevvy at the rose gardens. hooned down via bolton st cemetry for supplies at the train station. then hooned waterfront for a bevvy and bike-mounted bbq under the bridge by tepapa (saw The All-Seeing Hand play some trippy music there), then split to cars at bottom of brooklyn hill.

That would have been fricckin awesome.....especially scaring the crap out of pedestrians thru the gardens.

  3. This may come across as a silly question, but....

What is the best process for letting people know you are parting out a car?

Someone on another thread said they were sick of the Tard listings that basically sold a split pin for a shekel etc, so is there a better way to get it listed?  Or has that now been going on so long that its just become the defacto standard?

    Interested to know....

    Ev. :-)

  4. What number Awamutu Grv?

We used to flat cnr Leighton Ave/Whites Line.....back then Awamutu Grv was a bit dodge, but all that area is slowly improving.  Ultra close to Woburn station as well for transport.  Moera is improving as well as people want to own the Railways Houses that were built here in the 30's when Hutt shops were opened.

I'd say its an area on the up.

  5. Was told once after the war farmers would buy them just for the steel.....they would cut all the plates out, leaving basically a collection of welds in the shape of a Bren carrier.

(BTW, farmers bought Corsairs and Kittyhawks after the war for the bolts!)

But I agree, a Bren carrier would be lush....I'd put in a few schekels for an OS sponsored project?
