  1. so this just passed the 1 year in the shed mark

and i have been plugging away at small things trying to make sure it all fits

made a cut down sump using the bowl of another sump ... it was ugly welding and looked too small on capacity and leaked like a sieve

so i made mk II version deeper and with new 2mm steel much easier to deal with made 1 flat plate right thru at cut line and then made the cutout and bowl for ford v8 pickup

very minor weeps on testing and i just hit it with the full POR tank sealer system to sort that out

oil filter remote and oil cooler mounted and plumbing mocked up

lots of little bits to sort so they dont try to occupy the same space under the bonnet

  2. No you buy the correct o2 sensor and tps from aliexpress china using the original part # to search and identify them then you get the correct sensor with the right range and factory plugs etc

my $300 O2 sensor that was $150 on eBay was $40 on aliexpress

Clamped to the floor, and vented to outside passenger compartment, either via a sealed box vented outside, or use the vent holes with a tube to outside, like oe on a lot of euro cars. Cable needs to be secured and not sit on sharp edges, and if it's not in a box I would suggest something over the terminals to prevent ergs escaping in a violent manner

Would a fully sealed agm style battery pass without sealed box ? (Mx5 battery in boot stock not sealed from cabin)

  4. For alloy - cheap oven cleaner in the can spray

DO NOT  leave it to sit too long.

rinse off with water  Scrub brush on the stubborn bits and rinse the hell out of it with water or it will etch into the alloy

toxic as hell -outdoor use only -catch the runoff and kill gorse with it or something

will also remove anodising from alloy

  5. Cig weld 135 has 5 position amp setting and variable wire speed -300-350 bucks supercheap or Bunnings on special was the best cheap option when I bought -didn't really want a hwa fong unknown no parts available brand and they were dearer anyway

cheap arc around 100$ these days

spend much more than that and you may as well go to coupla grand plus multi do everything machine

if you are learning then avoid stick/arc it will be frustrating as on thin steel

budget on a good auto-darken helmet too

cheaper to get someone else to weld your exhaust but once you have a welder there is so much you can do/fix /make learn

  6. I have done lots of 1.2 mm steel tubing with arc

spot s only is the way -don't try to run a bead

actually found thicker rods better -more filler and more heat going back into the rod

If you can take the exhaust right off the car it's doable all downhill is easier

new arc sets are so cheap now but cig weld gas/gasless mig from super heap for $350 on special quite often

In other news... I just delivered this J3 to Motueka from Marahau. Second gear, just, up over the Riwaka hill. The tappet cover started pissing out oil over the exhaust manifold and smoking me out from the cab, my double de-clutching skills needed lots of testing and down the other side I didn't know how the brakes were faring but they certainly got hot. It was missing from the word go and got worse, hopefully just the points closing up. Yep it was a mighty 214 consuming vast quantities of petrol and not going very fast. The fella who has bought it has never driven a truck before and has to drive it over the mother hill to Takaka.

    Rather not be him.....

    Nice looking though.

Fuck driving old trucks on takaka hill with no brakes

if it's just going there to park up and die then convince him to AFrame or straight bar tow it behind something modern and huge

I used 5 min epoxy for a leak, little bit of fibreglass mat to bridge the gap, held on for over a year until I got around to fix it, just got to get it clean I guess was the trick

I hit it with the zapper some more -down to a couple of weeps no drips but the steel is getting too thin to grind back more

looking at the por 15 sealing system and cleaners to seal inside and out

  9. Really strangely - Yes preselect gear you want then press clutch right to the deck within 20 seconds

gear is indicated on the dash and shows what you have preselected to goto next

gear lever is like a holepunch - even makes the same noise - big lever forward and back gives you half a gear up and down - little lever on the front of it gives whole gear up or down if you do 2 clicks

sometimes when changing down for a corner etc it seems to throw a dice and give ya whatever gear it feels like - usually not the one you wanted

worst part is the hold clutch right down til it clicks - seems unnatural after driving RR boxes with clutch brake at the bottom of clutch stroke (never push clutch right down when moving or you do damage to the clutch brake)

and there is no room or dead pedal to rest your left leg on - its hard up against engine cover no room to stretch

    would rather have this ....
