  1. That sucks. I wouldn't be surprised if that cunt has been through mediation before or knows someone who schooled him up on presenting his case. Good on ya for posting the outcome and as you say lots of key learnings to share. I went to mediation about 3 years ago when some camel jockey side swiped one of our company vehicles caused 3k of damage. Long story short his whole fucking family turned up pleading poverty and the mediator screwed me down to 2k full and final settlement paid over 6 months. Next morning our office girl says 2K went in the bank overnight from the camel jockey. Fuck me had the money all along. Lesson play hard ball and don't move an inch. Mediator was probably some labour/green voting hand wringer.

    Update

My Name is Sgtjackass, and this is my story

So i went to court to 'mediate' this thing. I brought with me a stack of invoices for the parts i had replaced which showed all the 'failed' components were brand new. He presented his case, i presented mine, i thought mine was rock solid.

Turns out, none of it mattered in the end. It came down to facts.

    1) He didn't get a prepurchase inspection, or ask me any questions on trademe. Therefore, he was in a better position as he was purchasing from the description alone.

    2) In the months he had it and used it, the motor broke down.

    3) He didnt talk to me about it before getting it repaired.

He wanted around 2.5k, 2000 for repairs and 500 for hurt feelings. They threw the hurt feelings out, as you cant put a price on feels.

They initially awarded him the 2k for misrepresentation, as when i sold it i said it was running well. He broke it, therefore it wasn't running well. However i argued that by repairing the outboard without telling me, he failed to mitigate my loss.

In the end he got awarded $1000

    Lesson

Unless you are paying a mechanic to replace your parts and have an invoice to that regard, your repairs are basically ignored. It doesnt matter how much you spent, unless a shop does it, it doesnt mean anything in court

Put 'As is where is' on every listing, never mention speculative things like 'its running well' or it 'starts easy'. These can be held against you without any proof

Take heaps of videos of it running, if appropriate.

Never ever offer the buyer anything when they contact you asking for money. See them in court.

The court mediator knows nothing about your case or the thing you sold. He who puts things most simply wins.

  2. Got some time finally to do some work on the GT. Fitted the carb today and the air cleaner. Got the correct size fan belt so fitted that too. Got a whole pile of parts being zinc plated so once they come back will be able to do heaps. Some pics of progress and unsure on what steering wheel to use.

  3. I bought Autodec carport for one of my MK 1 GT Cortinas. Fit was absolutely shit and I ended up having to re make it. The issue was the front carpet. That's my experience. Stripping the underside of old sealant is a bitch of a job. I have used a heat gun and scraper in the past. Only thing that worked!

  4. Been sorting lots of fittings, screws etc to go to the zinc plating man. Spent ages researching the correct type of screws and what washers etc go on them. When I pulled the car apart it was a real mishmash of odd size screws and head types so have now got all that sorted. Once the front of the car is back on I'll check the holes in the body work are all the correct size and fill and redrill if too big

  5. Been balls out at work and doing shit around the house so progress been slow. The roof has been hammer and file finished and all the front panels are back from the blasters all looking mint. Greg is going to tidy up the back end and then onto the jig to get all the front back in. Been getting lots of bits powdercoated and the carb is back fully rebuilt and looking brand new. Need to sort the pushrod bushes at the pedal box for both the brake and master cylinders as both slogged out big time.

  6. Cheapest way is lowering blocks in the back and then jack up the front and get the gas cutting torch out. Do one cut each side and pull out the bit of spring you just cut off. Lower jack bounce the front up and down a couple of times and if not low enough repeat the fore mentioned steps until the right height. Probably get pink stickered first time out though

  7. Any big project done right and fully certed is a black hole! Decide what you want to do, do a budget and decide what you can relistaclly afford to spend each month. That will dictate your build time. If you are going to do a lot of the work yourself buy good quality tools and plant and they last a lifetime. You will have times when shit goes wrong and you wish you had never started it. I have found I use about half a day a month during week days dropping and picking up stuff as people not open during the weekend. I use couriers as well as cheap compared to driving round in Auckland traffic. Ask others who the good people are to outsource work too as lots of dickheads out there and price generally reflects the quality of work. Top quality work costs $$ so don't scrimp on the areas which are very difficult to fix ie engineering and body work once painted and last of all mock it up and if possible get it running and shake it down before final paint and assembly. You would be surprised what looks like will work and doesn't when actually drinking it.
