Better off with a cheap Jappa Igor. Plus parts far easier to get if it gets a bit knocked about

Got the rear windscreen out with the help of some kids. The rust that was hiding at the edge wasn't as bad as I was worried, so that was good.
Put the battery on charge a while back. Yesterday I cranked it over and forgot I had the charger connected. not good. Now when I turn the key the speedo starts swinging and when I turn the key everything just dies. Anyone got a bit of a rough diagnosis on what I likely fucked?
Loose earth somewhere ? Or the battery is fucked. Cool old ute. I used to have an S Pack one of these in the late 80's. 5 years old and was starting to rust out then so yours a real survivor

Do they block your view, or could injure you in an accident?
Not really they are 50mm dia. The carb and scoop is a bigger hazard as far as blocking the view out the front

Is it true you can't have A pillar mounted gauges? I want to run oil pressure and temp gauges in my Senator as I don't want to mount them on the dash or anywhere in the dash. Young bucks at work are saying illegal.

Sorry to see you're having motor issues man. Don't sell it though, can guarantee you'd regret it! I almost bought a Brougham once and I'm still kicking myself for letting it go
I was think of selling my HQ Statesman but would never get an original one again plus I have fully rebuilt it mechanically over the last 3 years so I'll just keep it

That ute was on a car trailer behind a pretty new ranger/hilux/similar. An oncoming car crossed the center line. The two seasonal worker in the vehicle which crossed the center line took a dirt nap. Joe and his Brother in the 4wd ute were hospitalised, but were probably not killed due to the safety features of their vehicle. the trailer broke off the ute, and finished up underneath the doublecab ute causing the damage you see here. a pic was on the front page of the press earlier this year.
It's well and truely fucked now

I got an engine number looked up by the police as I had no plate once, then they gave me the plate number witch was on the records
I am unsure if the landtransport can give you any info off the engine number but you can try
I had that once. Went to re register a 315 Consul in the early 80's and I had to take some docs to the cops and it had a 1500 precrossflow repower with no engine number so I just put the casting number 120E 6015 and the engine comes back as stolen lol. Cops didn't believe until we bought my mates old lady's Mk1 Cortina with 1500 engine and showed them.

This is a tiny Welch plug? If so then yes I did that myself. I also installed the grub scewws each end of the gallery. There is no oil escaping anywhere. I think I need to find a manual oil pressure gauge and hook it up. I would hope they checked everything tbh as I've never assembled a bottom end before I wanted it to be right hence why I got them to assemble the short block. Oil pick up pipe is my only logical step I think. If there's nothing obviously wrong there I'll have to take the engine out and strip it back down I think.
Yes you have put it in right. You need to hook an oil pressure gauge up to it to see if it's actually got any pressure. I can't recall however is the oil pickup bolted or a push fit in the block. If it's a push fit are you sure the oil pickup pipe hasn't dropped out?
-
Has the oil gallery core plug been installed in the back of the block? I would take out the spark plugs and hook up an oil pressure gauge, then crank the engine over and it should show oil pressure. Failing that I'd say it's in the oil pick up pipe or your engine builder has stuffed up the main/big end bearing clearances. If you have had it line bored check you have used the correct main bearing shell size. Engine builder should have checked clearances any way.

Very cool, there used to be loads of these PC,s around and I haven't seen one in years. Great work in keeping the old girl on the road.

What's the best GPS vehicle tracking system to use so I can hopefully get my car back if some pond scum steals it. I was looking at Snitch but unsure on what else is out there

Easy as buy one with the best body you can afford or buy one that someone else has spent all the big dollars on.

From
day dot I determined this one is staying dead stock standard. As the kray brothers would have used as a getaway motahh.
Hasnt run in atleast 2 years. Has no brakes. Last reg is march 98.
I did some snooping via facebook amd the old boy that had the van died in 2014. No kids or family to speak of.
Aparently he used it to collect his produce in orchard. And has always been barn stored. Hence the not being rust fucked
Kray Brothers would have been using stolen 3.8 Mk 2 and S Type Jags to get away in and then the Transit to distribute the loot and everything else they nicked.

If it's standard bore it's worth more however if not just another 711m

With the electronic discussion some of you older folk need to remember that when you were roaring around in your Kingswoods, Cortinas and Triumphs, The next generation of hoons were getting into the cars with early electronics (Fx-Gt, Sigma turbo, pulsar turbo etc). So we have grown with electronics as they have progressed and it doesn't seem so daunting to us.
Yep and the other issue with your type of cars is they are so fucking hard to work on and you need kid size hands as everything jam packed in the engine bay.

This comment actually highlights something that I hadn't really considered. It's not just how they look but also the experience you get while driving a car. It's certainly true that pre 1985 cars give you a driving experience that you can never get in a more modern car. This could be a good or bad thing depending on your point of view but it is significant all the same.
Agree there. It's the seats and adjustability, steering wheel adjustability, it was one size fits all basically. You can upgrade the suspension to give it half decent road manners , I put Koni fully adjustable shocks and king springs in my Statesman and completey transformed it. I just like it because it's a good cruiser and childhood memories I guess.
