Yep. I've been thinking that! Space is somewhat limited but I'm defo going to buy a new one and get a bigger rad in there!
Also been doing the windows down heaters up to see it it helped a bit haha.

Fellixx has told me about a radiator flush thing you can do with a dishwasher tablet. I might try it but it's being able to do it on the road and without pissing the other half off lol
-
A lot of shit did come out when Fellixx reversed flushed but I'm suspecting the radiator too.
I'd say it needs some sort of professional flushing service if that is a thing?
Went into midas and asked them if they could do it and he was like yeah. Do it yoursen with a hose pipe.. Cheers mate haha
Doesn't help that I have no idea what the radiator is from for a replacement..

Hey guys. Thought I'd just copy a text I just sent Al.
Hey dude. Sorry been a busy day haha. This morning I changed the thermostat over and I actually replaced the radiator cap a few days ago cos it wasn't keeping 14psi. I also got the ignition timing checked and adjusted. Still overheating really bad lol. Have to pull over every 20k or so or hope for a big downhill that I can coast down hahaha. This is driving at like 60kph at 1.2k revs. Pretty bad haha. May be a long journey home
Its very quick to overheat so yeah its like thermostat was closed or theirs an air lock but I've had the heaters fully open with the cap off on the radiator for a good 10 mins and watched it until all the air bubbles stopped popping. Any other suggestions. I do feel like I've done something wrong as it's way quicker to overheat than before (maybe?)

Gahhhh it's over heating again!

I'm going to Nats mate. Don't you worry. Just wanted to spend money on this trip before signing up lol

Moment of truth time.
I look a twat in this but I don't care cos this is the result of 5 days of being "stranded" lol
-
As it happens bart. That guy never got back to me! I ended up using a guy called Tom Baker. Really nice guy.
Quite a strange situation. He had a cardiac arrest recently which meant he couldn't drive so when I rang him he wasn't too busy but he said he would help if I picked him and his tools up. 7 hours later we had the gears out and swapped over. Lol. Took us ages to get them out and hammer new ones in without fucking camshaft up! Then timing cover wouldn't get flush etc. Fucking pain in the arse!
-
Let me know how you get on. If you're struggling I'll try and get my neighbors to let you in to my place. Can't promise anything though as they are away too!
-
Will do mate!
Our plans have changed as we've lost a fair bit of time so probably going to Queenstown. Where abouts are you as will try and make it on the way!
Think I'm gonna have do a build thread on this van as I seem to be replacing everything on it.
Replaced the water pump for the taps etc in the van and and now I have water pressure. Yay!!
But now the boiler is leaking. Fml.
I agree. Old school is awesome!!

Well I went for a drive and dropped the tow strop back to Karl's.
Gave it a good thrashing on the 100 roads.
Temp didn't go above 180!! And it now easily revs to 4.5k just likw Graham said it would. So its probably been slightly out of time / missing a tooth all this time.
Thanks to everyone that helped. You guys Fucken rock.

Yeah doing it in place. No way that camshaft is coming out without removing a lot of stuff lol.
Removed the gear on the camshaft thanks to the South island crew (and three on three and richy!)
The radiator was proper proper manky inside so Fellixx gave it a good wash out and they gave me some tips with a dishwasher tablet to give it a proper flush. (although places are open now so might get a proper flush done on it)
Think I may have found a guy that can help me finish it off etc.
Leanne is pretty depressed about the whole thing. I've told her that if its not sorted by the end of the day that we will just go home lol. She'll be right if we get back on the road though

I now have an Alloy matched set in my possession.

Only just got the old one off. The key was buggered. Luckily Pete came back with a welder and got it off.
I'm on my way to pick up a metal gear now. Just need a mechanic to push it all in and get the timing right to finish it off!

Where is the top 10? Is that Cranford st/medow st?
That's not far from Karls house if it is?
Apparently it's literally 700 meters away. Which is so lucky!!

Thank you all so so much with your help.
I now have in my possession a camshaft with timing gear. A crankshaft timing gear and a timing cover gasket. And a wealth of advice!
I will be at Karl's tommorow to try and sort this out. Any help will be appreciated and paid for in beers!
Love you all.

Holy crap! @EFI_LC. Yes please! That would simplify the job so much.
Plan in New year was to rebuild a 202 and then get some aftermarket cams to try and increase the torque.
I will send you a pm now.
Stuck and stranded in rangiora/kaiapoi/christchurch. Help? :(

Cheers mate. I was thinking how it will be a bitch to get a new rad to fit.
I will limp it home and then take the radiator to a shop nearby in petone and get their input on fans etc.
Is rodding /recore the same thing?
