  1. So still in the process of gathering the many parts required to make this happen. Spending a little on cosmetics to keep me going. Reverse eye leaf springs for the back, adj Capri coilovers on the front which I'll have back (from engineers) by the end of the week. Once it's low I'll be cheerin. Also some personalised plates. Can anyone make the connection?
  2. Thanks. Yes I never knew of them until I was standing there looking to buy it lol. The interior is average. Dash has cracks, steering wheel faded, denim seat coverings are torn etc. Nothing that can't be fixed but the focus is getting it to go fast. Looking old & shabby should make it a hilarious combination
  3. Here's some details on my MK2 Escort Denim pack project. I bought it pretty rough and had some minor rust cut out and repaired. I was undecided about going turbo with it but I'm going to bite the bullet. The car will remain the same on the outside but by the time I'm finished, will hopefully be packing close to 300atw on pump fuel & octane booster. The main parts aquired so far: Pinto engine Custom stainless turbo manifold Garret ball bearing GT2560R Sierra EFI inlet manifold YB Cosworth Pistons & rods Reinz standard YB head gasket YB distributor & phase sensor Holden LS1 coil packs with relocation bracket R31 Skyline diff, handbrake assembly, tailshaft end W58 Supra box FG XR6 turbo intercooler Discussion thread here //oldschool.co.nz/index.php?/topic/51642-rhubarb77s-1980-escort-denim-pack/
  4. Thanks. I did look at Zetec & Duratec but to do it properly would've cost at least double what my Pinto did. About $3500 for the retroford fitting kit + shipping & import duty, dry sump (Duratec) $3000 so the steering geometry isn't altered, throttle bodies & engine management $4000 etc. And then the cost of engine mods like cams, porting, rods & pistons, machining etc because a standard 2.0 zetec/ duratec on Carbs or ITB's only makes 150rwhp, the same as my pinto.
  5. hahaha Jorden I have a good pinto to go with it that needs to be installed. When it's up & running with WOF/RWC I'll be asking around 5k for it. Comes with the original matching numbers Pinto too
  6. Thanks for the comments and compliments guys. It is a great car and the poll results are overwhelmingly in favour of leaving the car the way it is. Thanks for the votes. Brockzila the MK2 coupe is a 1980 2.0GL Denim pack. Not sure if I want to cut this one up either. But if I sell it who knows what would happen to it? It was a bit rough when I first got it. The interior is shagged. I've had a bit of rust cut out & repaired but overall it's a pretty solid car.
  7. Discussion thread //oldschool.co.nz/index.php?/topic/51310-rhubarb77s-1970-escort-coupe/ Here's a few recent pics of my Escort that I've owned for the last 5 or so years. I'm the second owner so most of the body and interior is untouched except the RS front end, some gauges, new carpet etc. I first took interest in Escorts growing up in Central Otago. I think my first car, bought for $100 was a MK1 four door with house paint all over it. Lots of gravel roads = lots of great memories So now, 20 years on I have this escort. It took a long time to find the right car as I didn't want to do any bodywork. The current engine, 2.0L Pinto was professionally built at an Escort performance shop here in Queensland. It pushed out 150rwhp on the rollers and runs a 14.5sec 1/4 mile with standard diff and standard Sierra 5 speed. A few weeks ago I stumbled across a custom Pinto turbo exhaust manifold when I was buying some escort spares. So that's kicked off a whole new chapter. I've crunched the numbers for the turbo route and it looks expensive. So my MK2 Escort project will have to go and the 150HP motor is up for sale. Going turbo with the car is going to change it. A lot. Fuel injection, big diff, big brakes etc. I'm in two minds about going ahead with it really as the car is so well balanced & very original. That's partly why I started the thread, to get some opinions about it so please place a vote in the discussion thread. Cheers Turbo project- T28 ball bearing Turbo on custom stainless manifold, Sierra EFI inlet manifold, YB pistons, YB rods, YB distributor, Holden LS1 coils, Toyota Supra W55 gearbox with adaptor bellhousing. Shopping list is still huge.
  8. Hi. Lots of things changed with your val over the years. I had a tuff NA 2.0L pinto built up for my escort with twin 45's and it runs 14.5 sec 1/4 mile. I am wanting to do what you've done but in the opposite order. So now I'm part way into a turbo Pinto project. I am curious to know why you sacrificed speed & power (turbo) for NA? Thanks
