  1. Just seen this on the Spacebook. The engine is from a KTM300, dudes from Auckland I think.
  2. GuysWithAviators now has the front guard. Success. The exhausts are available to see online, I went down a deep dark maze of Malaysian and Thai websites but none of them ship internationally. Ended up just sending a pic of what I wanted to a friend who lives in Malaysia. He called his local supplier and picked one up. I can get more sorted if need be. It's about $150 all in with shipping. Typical, shipping is more expensive than the part, but still cheaper than the genuine exhaust. The world needs more v50's, would love to see yours being built mate.
  3. So! Things progressing on this a little. Sorted a head/block/cylinder kit for the bike from a PW80. Will have some fun with that when it arrives, looks like the last person who had it running wasn't too fond of a filter so the carb and such are filthy, hope to rip it all apart this week for a proper look inside. Got a friend in Malaysia to sort an exhaust for me, didn't cost the end of the earth. A genuine v50 exhaust is $168 with another $122 for shipping. This is about $50-70 excluding shipping, which I don't imagine will break the bank either since it's the actual cost and not inflated via eBay. Smiling ear to ear at the moment!
  4. Here's the front guard, if anyone wants it I can ship it, not in the best condition though: The bike is virtually stripped, just waiting for a date with soda blasters.
  5. Haven't had much time for the c50 at the moment, just part hunting and twiddling thumbs waiting for them to arrive. I did do another tail light placement, think I'm gonna keep going with this idea: Seat arrived today too! Excitement, can't wait to see it on the bike:
  6. Had a hunt and found these. A couple are the Thai Yamaha Mates. 80 and 100cc models. and probably the closest I could find to what I have in mind:
  7. No example really, I like the colour scheme of the nitro c90 above. But I have an idea in my head I hope to accomplish before I change my mind again. Would do black rims, spokes and hubs if I was to go the spokes route.
  8. Parts slowly making their way to my base in Thailand:
  9. Yeah I'm thinking the same ones. They are a bit wider too. 1.60 front and 1.85 rear where as the others are 1.40/1.60. The extra width would be nice. Yeah! Cub toilet seats are all the rage in the UK at the moment. I think I'll stick with the bench seat. Haha.
  10. Trying to decide on new wheels for the v50. Usually I'm a spoke guy through and through, but I've been considering a mag option as I have access to them. WWYD? What would you do? 1 - Black front and rear standard rims with polished hubs 2 - Mags from any of the pics below 3 - Black front and rear standard rims with black hubs (as per the bottom right photo) These are the wheels I'm considering below, along with the colour scheme inspiration for the bike. 11. She's yours mate. A little cracked in places though. Contact me some how, possibly via the Moped NZ FB page and I'll send pics when I can.
  12. After scoring an epic deal with my bunch of parts, I finally find a spare hour this evening after work to start tearing the mighty v50 back to her shell. Here's a few photos. Notice the horrible rattle can job slowly disappearing and letting the original paint shine through. Before: During: http:// After:
  13. Got a whole bunch of stuff being finalised today with the order for parts. Hopefully will get time this week to tear it down completely. I decided to use some of the cool Thai 'mate' badges, among other things: As you can see, a few Mate parts going into it. Colours will be different for a few things. But now that's out of the way it's time to focus on the actual situation at hand. (If anyone needs v50 stuff I can try tack it onto this order I'm doing. Send me a message and we'll figure it out.)
  14. Cheers guys, excited to join the v50 club. Going to finish an order with the Thai Yamaha dude next week so I can get this old girl running like new again. I've noticed this is part of the y80/y100 Yamaha mate family. In Thailand they actually produced a Yamaha Mate 111 model for a few years there and they still exist. Had me thinking.....
  15. I collected the v50 today. First 2 stroke project for me and I plan to keep this one a bit more standard than the c50 build (see here: http://bit.ly/1OkbVkS). Here she is loaded into the back of the wagon, on the way to the big scary WOF building: Well, that wasn't so scary at all. Sorted. After a wet drive home and barely a drop of oil as she lay on the side, it was time to get a couple of pics before the light disappeared. Wheel-less so it fit in the car: The bits and pieces: I've got a new legshield and few repro items coming for it shortly. It's fairly solid so it'll make for an easy tear down. Not sure what will happen next, but updates will come soon.
  16. Hi mate, click here: http://bit.ly/1I2QEHF and have a browse.
  17. Been doing some very minor work today figuring out the vision for my tail light. Had limited access to the work shop today, so hopefully more work can continue next week.
  18. Just picked a few bits up for my v50 and c50. Only took a year to find an alternative to eBay. A darn sight cheaper too.
  19. I don't think they have changed. From what I read of the situation they either didn't know what they were doing or something else went wrong along the way.
  20. Haha cheers mate. Yeah they are becoming like hens teeth now, especially in the North Island. A couple of guys have been forced to re-rego their lapsed plates as 50cc motorbikes, and they now need a WOF every 6 months. Defeats the point of having a c50 really. So any with live rego/on hold are shooting up in cost. I paid about $450 for this in parts, rego on hold. - Back in Feb.
  21. The QCR guys have some insane builds. Absolutely awesome. I'm a firm believer in a good cross between form and function, Haha. Love chopping bikes to no end but I like them to be usable every day. Hence chopping, then regretting and prepping the tail to go back on my c50. Need to be safe from the wheel spray.
  22. No problems mate. On the hunt for a v50 at the moment to keep the momentum going once the c50 is finished. A few parts are interchangeable! Rims and stuff. My real love for the earlier Yamaha 2 strokes came from my time in Thailand. T80's and Mate 100's everywhere. I'd love to squeeze one of the larger engines in the frame. Here's a couple I've seen about online: And
  23. She's absolutely stunning. Love it mate. Of course, it's your baby, but if that baby ever needs adopting, I know a good home right here in TGA!
  24. Cheers man! Good to speak with you. Yeah, I import Racingboy Rims and the Boushi swingarms direct from the factory. This build is almost a show case of all the parts I'm able to get. Currently trying to sort the new engine! When speaking with a country that doesn't use English as a first language, conversations that would normally take minutes face to face end up taking a whole week over the net. Haha.
  25. Small early weekend update on the mighty c50 build. After the bench polisher being sorted out I had another go on the hubs before heading home with an epic load of goodies: I also mocked up the shortened tail, most of these Street Cubs chop the tail as I have an leave it. But living in NZ, with the ol' 4 seasons/1 day situation I'm pretty keen to keep just enough to stop spray from the rear wheel. Here is the test placement, will have to fit the wheel before deciding if it's gonna work: Once home, I decided to give the lacing a go: After multiple failed attempts and varied swear words, I managed to get them to the point of true-ing. Which I'll be able to begin next week. Here's a final pic, showing the disc/caliper set up with the racing boy shocks: That's enough for now. Will get onto it again in the new week.
