Looks like the perfect start for a nice little starlet, I'm happy you've got the rounded fender mirrors not the boxy cheapo looking hockey sticks.
This guide is pretty much a bible for squeezing some horses out of the old k block http://www.rollaclub.com/wiki/index.php?title=Tech:Engine/K_Series/How_to_build_a_tough_K_motor

What: 1979 Kp60 Toyota Starlet
Why: I owned a Cortina wagon previously but it was too big for my budget/capabilities and available space. I wanted a small old school rwd hatchback which left me with three choices, Starlet, Chevette, or 323, Starlet won on spare parts availability and price
When: January this year, the lady I bought it off decided it was time to upgrade to something modern
How: I left a note on this Starlet nearly a year ago and forgot all about it, presuming it had just been thrown out like all the rest, until one day in January. I had just (that very day) sold my old Starlet as it was a bit whory around the edges and I was buying a van for work so was going to put the proceeds onto the deposit, until I got a text saying she was looking at selling and was I still interested. As I had a wad of cash in my pocket I decided I may as well have a look and it was all on from there, new van and starlet in the same week.
What's Next: A small upgrade on the engine, keeping it K series with lack of budget and just keep it in as nice condition as I can, already had a lot of rust taken care of

Mike Bamber in Christchurch or "fordsan" on TradeMe up in Kaikoura will be where to find replicas

It's obviously personal opinion but my thoughts are that the Cortina is going up in value while the au is still losing value. Iv lost enough money driving fancy cars that I would take the one gaining value any day
This, plus it's a dealer selling, you'll never get a good deal out of a dealer, only there to make money. Another side is I wouldn't look twice at a crummy algae green turd shaped car, the cortina is a tasteful classic.

I am bringing some but springs for this to Hamner if it is there!
I reckon a cordless grinder will do the trick

Getting parts is awkward with my car. "what's the rego number? " "kp61" "no. What's the rego number? "
Stupid plate was a dumb idea
Dragging up an old post but this is fucking gold! I've got to clean the spit off my screen

Hi Oldschool, I'm Digby and I have a '79 Starlet in Christchurch, I also have another but that's just a whorey pos. I've also owned a Mk3 Cortina wagon, and a Sigma but settled on a starlet as they're fun little rwd tin cans.
